I had the same concern and so when the installer was present, I showed him the "difficulty" in opening and closing the upper doors. That is actually by design. The force required to open and close, seals the doors better than the regenerators that "seal" themselves. I personally prefer this as another refrigerator we owned "self-sealed" and didn't do a very good job of sealing. For my money, I'll take the little extra force to assure a good seal. '
