Yes. I personally use the 970 Evo Plus with my z390-E Asus Strix motherboard for a boot drive. It works perfectly. When installing on this specific board, be sure to peel off the plastic strip that covers the thermal adhesive for the ASUS m.2 heat shield and apply it to the m.2 drive once the drive has been slotted in place.

After installing my Rog z390 gaming, I booted up to bios screen and did a bios update (which the mother board lets you do directly through the internet). After the update my DDR4 3200 Trident Z rgb memory and the 970 Evo Plus 1TB showed up, after that it was just a simple yet blazing fast window setup. The Evo is also my boot and main drive with a 1TB seagate sitting as backup drive.
