Guess depends on how big your room is. One should be fine but if you have 2 you can use the app to set them up in stereo. I think the stereo sound is good, for what that's worth.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.If you mean by "surround effect" you mean a room filling sound, I would recommend at least two speakers. I would also recommend you get the R3s rather than the R1 speakers. I think the R3s sound better. The speaker app does have an option to set up a setting up a home theater arrangement with speakers, or stereo system, your choice.
