Absolutely. The hard drive either comes with a bootable CD or you can download everything you need to make one. This CD includes a disk to disk copy utility that will copy the contents of your old drive into your larger new hard drive. You don't need an operating system (Windows) to do this because the CD boots into its own operating system. You may need to change the BIOS to specify the boot sequence that boots from the CD before the hard drive.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes that is exactly, what I did for our failing DVR hard drive, and it was easy to partition and transfer the data with the bundled software.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. As long as your PC has a SATA connection or the HDD you're swapping out is a SATA drive the Seagate 1TB should be fine. Do u know if it's a Hardware Failure or just an OS issue? If OS issue.. you might want to swap after it's been Backed-Up and reformat the 500GB or test it with program like HD Tune Pro or CD (tools) that came with the old drive.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I would be careful if buying a Seagate disc drive. I upgraded to a one terrabyte drive that blew my computer and corrupted my original disc drive. The Seagate drive was later found to be defective. I have had great luck with Western Digital disc drives and yes you should just be able to add a disc drive and follow the prompts on your monitor screen for the computer to recognise it. You will end up with disc (1) and disc (2) but they will run concurrently so you won't notice any difference other than increased memory.
