Is your Inspiron SATA capable? If you don't know, Take it into BB and ask a Geek.

No, this won't work with a desktop. There's not enough power with this version. Best Buy online has one for a desktop that has an actual case to put the hard drive in so there is enough power to make the transfer. I don't know how having a case gives it more power, but I have one on order now.

Yes, but I believe that model has USB 2.0 (not USB 3.0). therefore the transfer rate will not be as fast.
