Can this model turn the roller off for shag rugs? null

Yes, but it does not work very well on high pile rugs. I'm pretty unhappy with it. It works great on hardwood and tile, but unless you have berber or very low carpet, it's near impossible to push. It's exhausting to use on carpet and takes me both hands to push and pull it.

Yes. There's a button on the machine to turn the roller off. It also has an attachment that could be used for shag carpet.

My Bride says that it does....she's never lied to me before. ;)
