They do not need to be plugged into a sound source to cancel noise. You only need to turn on the noise cancellation switch and have a good battery installed.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. No steady sounds are actively canceled with the headphones turned on even when they are not plugged in. So if you want to walk around during an airplane flight you can still have noise reduction. Physical sounds that are not steady are lessened with the headphones on the ears because your ears are then physically covered. Active noise cancellation occurs when steady sound arriving at the listener's ears is mixed with the same sound that is 180 degrees out of phase with the original sound.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. No but it will not suppress all the ambient noise.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.No. It uses one triple A battery and when the switch is turned on the loud engine noise abates for the most part.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. My air conditioner whistles when it is running in my office at home. I put the headphones on and turned them on to see if they reduce the noise. They definitely helped reduce the noise. As I was testing I kept taking the headphones off to see of the A/C stopped while I was testing, but it was running the whole time and I did not hear it while I had the headphones on. Note, when I say on, they do have a battery and must be turned on to have the noise reduction work.. But it does work even when I did not have any audio input plugged in.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes. These headphones must be connected to a sound source to use noise cancellation feature. Thanks, >Joffrey
