• You should hear sounds from both sides. Yours may be defective. Take them back & exchange them.

• Yes you should hear sound from both sides. May also not be completely seated in the jack - make sure they're plugged in as far as possible.

• You should be hearing sounds equally well on both sides. There could be a loose connection. Also check the output balance of the machine the headphones are connected to.
