• Yes... 3.5" input. I use a variety of external microphones plugged directly into this camera and do not use the internal microphone.

• It has one 3.5" mini stereo unbalanced mic input. The hot shoe provided is Sony's proprietary Multi-interface" shoe that only works with Sony accessories. You can buy an adapter though that converts it to a standard cold shoe.
