Yes, the phone will work in Europe to call other european numbers. Please note, however, that the phone is locked to be used only with a T-Mobile USA GSM card.

I have not used this phone in Europe yet. I have used my T-Mobile pre-paid plan SIM in Europe and Asia though w/o any problems. This is my secondary emergency phone or if I don't want to carry my other phone where you have to leave it with someone as you go to a few places and then find out someone stole it.

Need to buy an unlocked GSM, quad band phone.
Unlocked means it will accept any sim.
Quad band means that it has the four basic GSM bands for talking. 850, 900, 1800, 1900.
