• I have had TP Link/Kasa devices for about 4 years now and from my recollection there has only been 1 or 2 updates and you get a notification when one is needed.

• Yes, firmware updates are made available via the Kasa as shown in our FAQ here: http://www.tp-link.com/us/faq-1256.html
