“My main power goes to the ceiling light. I connected a line down to a single pole switch. Black power to one side of the switch white back up to the light to break the connection. It is grounded. Is it possible to use the WiFi switch in this manner.”

This switch requires a neutral wire. So I don’t think the installation you mention would work with it.
