Yes it works with the 5G wi-fi systems. I set it up on my Godmother's AT&T service installed the app on her iPhone and it all works well.

Either by temporarily disabling 5G so you can separate and connect to 2.4 or by having a separate channel for 2.4 altogether. Pretty much all smart devices use 2.4 - Otherwise the app helps you connect very easily.
