They're plastic and they are real shallow hurt the ears really bad unless you have super small ears

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Plastic rather than steel still thick enough that it seems reasonably durable, especially considering the ear-cups are articulated. So when it's on your head most of the force/pressure is alleviated at the ear-cups rather than straining the frame and particularly the extensions.
