A:AnswerSounds terrible, how frustrating that must have been. And I know, I have had a similar experience. Based on my similar experience, I decided that I would never reformat a card until I have confirmed that I have my photos saved in two different spots. I even take the step to back all the way out of whatever program or storage media I am using and then go back in to see if the photos are there.
As far as your specific question, I suspect that the photos are simply gone, sorry to say. It is my understanding that reformatting a card, whether big, small, an SD or any other type of card, causes the card to be wiped clean. This is different than the hard drive in your computer, or even on an external hard drive. Speaking of which; when I am traveling, I back up my photos every night to an external hard drive, just to be sure. The practice is likely a waste of time 99 out of a 100 times. But I can guaranty that some of my favorite shots would be lost the one time I did not back them up.
good luck

A:AnswerIt’ all depends on how the pictures was taken and of their originals not copies unless their good quality. The external hard drives doesn’t make a difference what brand they are. I have this one so when I travel I can clear my SD card but I also owns a Western Digital my cloud hard drive also.
A:AnswerAs far as I can tell, it doesn't matter which way it sits, as long as it is stable. Only way I can think of extending would be to purchase an extension USB cable. Don't remember price buy purchased at Best Buy. I would think it would work with any version of Windows. If not, Best Buy is very good with returns (within the time limit).

A:AnswerHi todd, The WD My Passport external hard drive comes pre-formatted for Windows OS, the hard drive should work as a plug-n-play hard drive on Windows computers. You can use it per your requirements but we never recommend to keep it plugged in all the time.
