We have one in a wall outlet right next to a couch that our son watches TV from. While watching, he will frequently have snacks on a paper towel sitting on the armrest. Sometimes those paper towels will fall between the couch and wall and land on the WEMO plug where they will sit for a few days before they are noticed and removed. So far, no fires or even discoloring of the paper towels. Hope this helps.
