No, it only supplies power. Your garage door uses different signaling via your door buttons or your remotes. Turning power on and off to the opener will not open your garage.

If the garage plugs into a standard outlet, then it should recieve power but the Wemo just turn power on and off. The functionality of the door opening and closing is a part B function once turned on. I don't think this will work as you intend. You would essentially only be providing power on and off to your unit. NOT controling the doors functionality once it is given power.

I like this idea. I’d like to deactivate my garage door opener at night bc one of my vehicles is kept outside the garage. It has a garage door opener installed in the vehicle. 
That way someone can’t break into my car and open the garage while I’m asleep. I wonder if it will disrupt the rotating code?

I don't think that will work. Wemo only controls on and off or power to the garage door opener, to open the garage door you still need to send the garage door opener a signal to open or close the door.

If the amperage on you opener is 15amps or less!! I would not do it. Just remember, if your internet goes down so does the device and your door won’t open.

Patty, dont listen to these idiots they dont know the first thing about electronics. You can of course do anything. What I did was use my smart outlet to activate a 120v relay. The relay wont care what voltage passes through it, as long as you are using 120v to actuate the coil. So basically I've set up a routine in the Alexa app so that when I tell alexa to open or close the garage door the wemo turns on, actuates the relay and the wires from my relay are wired into my door switch. The alexa routine turns the power to the wemo outlet off after 15 seconds to simulate a press of the garage door opener. It works fine. Only caveat is that you will never know the status of the door alexa isnt smart enough yet to do so.
