Yes, there is a plastic insert inside of the soap dispenser you'll need to take out, before using powder. I haven't used powder myself yet but pulling the insert out is easy.

You can use powder you just have to remove the loading tray.

Yes, you can use a liquid as well as a powder detergent. When you pull out the tray to add the detergent, there is a removable tray within the detergent tray. Leave the tray insert in if you want to use liquid detergent. Remove the tray insert if you want to use powder detergent.
