Customers are saying
Customers appreciate the AirPort Extreme Base Station's ease of use, range, and performance. Many also highlight the strong signal strength and relatively easy setup process, resulting in great coverage. However, some customers find the price to be a bit high. A few also mention that the size could be smaller and that more Ethernet ports would be beneficial.

Fantastic router.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a great router, and well worth the price. Which should be noted is the same or less than similar featured routers like the Netgear Nighthawk. I was only getting 20-25mbps with my newly upgraded 105mbps service from Comcast using the Linksys Wireless N router I had previously. The Apple Airport extreme was super easy to set up using my iPad, and I immediately got speeds in the 120-125mbps range over wifi on all my devices with Wireless N or AC support. Easily the best router I've owned. It has the easiest set up (at least if you have an iOS device or Mac--I can't speak to the PC set up app), works great and looks better than other routers. Highly recommended.

Didn't really work as expected
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have a two story house with a basement. After doing some research I thought the apple airport would be the best option. Installation was easy. Works great in some areas, however the tower dosent have great range. I have a lot of dead spots in my house.

It works
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am not blown away with it performance nor am I overly disappointed. I bought this one to replace an older version hoping I would notice a range boost improvement. Sadly no noticeable improvement in range or speed but it still works.

Outstanding!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Works perfect right out of the box. I am fairly new to Apple products. But it was time for a new router and seeing as I had a new Apple computer, I figured this was the best way to go. Glad I did! Easy setup and great range. Speeds are excellent as well! Easily gives me all the speed I'm paying for from my internet provider. Aside from the Apple computer this is connected to, we have two PC's, two Android tablets and a Android phone as well as an iPad in the house. All connect perfectly. Like most Apple products it is a bit pricey. However, it is a quality product that works great!

Horrible experience, I returned it!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Very frustrating set up. It would not communicate with other apple products and kept giving error messages with no assistance. I took it back and got a Netgear unit that is awesome! I tried to give it 0 stars but the survey required at least one.

average router
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It was recommended my uncle. Hoping that it'll beat any other router, I have high expectations. All wrong. Connections were drop, I have to reset the router many times, slow speed sometimes are the problem that I faced.

Not bad.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Doesn't give great speeds at all. I have the best modem possible and was recommended this router for speed, however the speed of the internet drastically decreases when connected to this router, unfortunately.

Excellent performance in a Router
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My family has 3 PC computers, networked "smart" TV and Blu-ray players, 2 Android phones, and an iPad. Prior to purchasing this, I had two wireless D-Link routers set up in my house (with one only serving as an access point). I needed one for the first floor and one for the second floor, because neither was powerful enough to cover all floors of the house. This worked fine for a couple of years--until I bought my kids an iPad. Little did I know that iPads have notorious bad connectivity to non-Apple wireless routers/access points. After connecting the iPad to both networks, they would both continuously degrade over days and weeks to the point where the iPad couldn't maintain a connection to either network for more than 1 minute. I was continually re-booting all the wireless devices to be able to connect to the iPad. finally, the upstairs access point just flat out stopped working--none of my devices could connect to it after attempting to connect to the iPad. I described my problem to the Best Buy rep, intending to buy a new router or access point setup hoping that newer technology would solve this issue. I wasn't even thinking about buying the Airport--I assumed it was an Apple proprietary product and wouldn't work well with a PC or Android product. The Best Buy rep assured me it would connect everything, and that the Airport extreme was the most powerful router they sold. He predicted that I could cover my entire house with one router, and not need one for each floor. I tried it out and I'm glad I did. He was right. Super easy setup, very powerful signal throughout both floors of my house. The wi-fi signal is definitely more powerful than the other routers I owned. My iPad connects flawlessly and is stable--as is all other devices. so much easier having one router rather than dealing with two separate networks with two separate SSID's. Very happy with the purchase. It does make it much easier to manage the router with an iOS device--I set it up and managed it from the iPad. have not tried the PC interface. But I think either way, you have to download software from Apple to complete the setup and or manage it. It does lack some customization features (assigning permanent addresses to devices, changing security protocols, etc.), but I confess I haven't investigated these options too much yet. I was happy just to have the network up and running within about 1 minute. Plug it in, reboot my modem, boom--it's up and running. This is how technology is supposed to work.

Really good router!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Like all Apple products... it's a little expensive. But it performs really great. Signal seems to be about 30% stronger then the previous Airport Extreme. And it's better then any Linksys/Netgear/etc router I have used. It is easy to setup using the Airport Utility on your Mac or other Apple device. Another great thing is the powercord. It does not have a power adapter on the end of the power cord, it just uses a regular 2-prong power cord, so it saves room on your surge protector and keeps everything neat and clean. I live in a townhouse, and I have had problems with other routers just because of a crowded wifi band with all my neighbors. This router works significantly better at both 2.6 and 5ghz. I really like it!

Not what I thought
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Didn't seem to help my Wi-Fi connection form the second floor. I bought it thinking it had more distance but even with I use my express for an extension it still doesn't reach my first floor well.

I heard it was good, but not for me.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this based on what it was expected to do, but it didn't work for mu application. I guess it had to be too close to the router and also since I have an airport express, which this was not compatible with.

Sadly, beamforming != help with channel crowding
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Was really hoping that beamforming would help with the channel crowding problem in my neighborhood (we're really busy across every channel), but 2.4GHz is just really congested in my neck of the woods. 802.11ac is nice, just got a new Macbook that supports it, and speed is reasonable. Main gripe is the administrative tools. If you're even an intermediate user of information systems, you'll be insulted by how non-tunable the Airport devices are. Will probably not buy another Airport device.

Unreliable
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The setup was easy and the performed well for the first 12 months. Well then it started disconnecting and recycling connection to the modem. This would make you loose wifi connection for about 5 minutes sporadically throughout the day, no matter what setting. After tech support was contacted at Apple and my ISP, the Apple product was the problem and was now out of warranty. Purchased another high end gaming router brand and have had no problems since. So either purchase the Apple Care or a different brand would be my recommendation.
