Customers are saying

Customers appreciate the AirPort Extreme Base Station's ease of use, range, and performance. Many also highlight the strong signal strength and relatively easy setup process, resulting in great coverage. However, some customers find the price to be a bit high. A few also mention that the size could be smaller and that more Ethernet ports would be beneficial.

    Saving me frustration!

Before I was just using the uverse gateway router. Devices would not connect, I was always resetting. The air play handles 50 devices, more than enough. My speed went from 5 - 15MPS to a consistent 22MPS. All devices connect now with no issues. My frustration level is very low now.

Not the best range, but very stable

I've used many many routers in my day and this one has been the most stable by far. I'm using this as my main router and extending the range via a Netgear R7000 because this is more stable. It's expensive, but saves me the aggravation of not having to reboot the thing...ever. It's been 60 days and not one reboot necessary.

    Adequate

This router is attractive and super easy to set up but the speed is nothing great... Plenty of lag and disconnects. This is a good router as long as you don't compare it to any of the actual good ones. I recently exchanged it for Asus ac3100 and couldn't believe the difference, everything from the packaging to the features was better on the Asus. As much as Apple charges for their products you'd think they'd supply an Ethernet cable but it doesn't even come with that. I don't shop for brand name, I shop for features and quality and I bought the AirPort Extreme because of the reviews but after trying it I decided to get something better.

    Great Upgrade!

I have had an Airport Express for about 6 years and it has performed flawlessly, I just wanted more speed in wifi, so i upgraded to the Extreme and I am very happy. Apple makes the process of replacing your existing router so easy, apply power to this unit, open up Airport Utility and select replace existing router. It will tell you when to move the other connections from your existing router. Once the Airport Utility was completed with the process, I powered down my modem and router and then let them power up again, the whole process took less than 5 minutes! I have had it up for several months and it has not missed a beat, which I expected since my previous Apple router worked flawlessly. I may even set up my old router as an access point to make my wifi network even larger.

The best router I have ever owned.

I have seen a lot of routers in my day, linksys, belkin, asus, Apple. And the best experience, quality, and longevity lies with Apple. This is the only router I have had good signal through my whole home and to all of my devices (10+ wired and wireless). The only router I recommend anymore is the AirPort Extreme and its little brother the airport express.

I have very mixed feelings about Apple products where I will either love or hate them. This is one of those that falls into the love category. It is super easy to set up and everything just works and the signal is strong. I live in a building with a lot of wifi interference and this router is the only one that can handle it. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

I love the airport extreme, I have most of my gaming systems on it and it works great. Also enables seamless airplay from my apple products to my Apple TV. I'm getting ready to set up a bridge to extend and get more coverage in my home.

I spent plenty of time reading reviews about this product and was very apprehensive about getting one while knowing Apple is discontinuing them. I was having some issues with the Wi-Fi coming from my ISP's router connecting with my smart home gadgets. So I grabbed an Airport Extreme and I cannot figure out why it took me so long to get one. My home runs on Apple products and everything works so well together now. It's really easy to set up and I get great range in my home (1,900 sq. ft). I literally plugged it in, installed the update, named my network, created a password, and DONE! Worth it.

i just upgraded to this wifi base from my old cisco. what a difference! this airport extreme is incredible - awesome connection, able to access info from computers, iPads, iPhones, iPods, you name it. set up took literally 2 minutes. if you need a new wifi base invest in this product. even though it is definitely pricey because its an apple product, you know you're getting the best in performance and customer service. definitely recommend to anyone - household use or even office use. also works just as well with non-apple products. i use a cisco network extender just to keep the signal strong and everything works perfectly. well done once again apple!

    Great Router, very fast speed.

I upgraded my comcast internet to the 105 mbps speed and attempted using their router. Wired I was getting in the 80s but wireless my top speed was 43. They gave me some excuse of why I was only getting those speeds and to only use their router. I did some research and decided to give the airport extreme a try, I have a bunch of apple products and figured it would work better with those than another type of router. I hooked it up disabled my comcast wireless and set it up within a few mins. Very easy to do from a mac or iOS device. I consistently check my speed online and my wireless is generally in the 90s from my mac. High 40s for iPhone and iPad. I assume if i was to hard wire it I would get the full 105 speed. Compared to other high end routers it is reasonably priced, I definitely recommend to any mac user. For back ups I was hooking up a hard drive once a week, with this I just plug it in and I can schedule my backups however I choose.

    Love the Airport Extreme!

We purchased an Airport extreme last year, but moved into a new house and found there was too much area to cover with just one router. I originally made the bad bad mistake of hooking up a net gear router in the basement and a small switch for 7 hardwired Tvs and 3 ports in our office. Well, the signals were awful and we couldn't stream anything. I went to Best Buy and the Apple rep there was AWESOME! He had me put another airport extreme in the basement (get rid of the Net Gear), airport express in the upper level and keep the original Airport Extreme on the main level. He also introduced me to a 20 switch, which is exactly what I needed. I came home and told my husband I was going to link everything together like the Apple rep told me and he laughed! Well, I did it and everything has been working awesome! My husband is so impressed he can't stop running speed tests.... LOVE THESE PRODUCTS!

i have had just about all the latest routers on the market and could not seem to have them keep up with the demanding use that i put on them on a day to day basis. I am very intuitive when it comes to the technological age due to being an aviation electronics technician. i find myself always looking for better and with the Apple Airport Extreme i found it. The extreme replaced the Netgear R6300, which replaced the linksys AC1200. Both were great routers but could not keep up with the gaming, surfing, multiple connected devices....ect.. The apple tech referred me to the airport extreme and after installation i understand. i performed checks all on of the devices and checked my online gaming and it was lightning fast compared to the others. The best thing is that it doesn't just connect apple devices. I have just about everything non apple and some apple devices hooked up and i couldn't be happier. I would recommend this to anyone trying to get the most out of their router and some. - best plus is that it allows up to 50 device connections.

This is the best router I ever owned. The range is great. I can stream mlb.com inside my detached garage (over 50' from the house). Never could receive any signal inside there. Fast and strong!

This is my 3rd wireless router. Previously had 2 Trendnets, a G and an N. N-router continued to turn on and off loosing reception, range was awful, did not have service on 2nd floor of my house or in the yard. This Apple router is amazing, my next door neighbor and one across the street can pick up the wifi. Great to have a guest feature with separate pass code so friends can use wifi and not have to know my password. Speed and range are amazing, only thing bad is the high price, but well worth it if it outlasts my previous routers which cost $80-$100 each, and died within 1-2 years.
