Great router for a price.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great router for a price. After five years the wifi of my AirPort Express died.

A tad expensive, But well worth the money
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. While it only has 2 hardwire outlets. This is a wireless router. If you need more than 2, you will need to look into a switch to go behind it. As a wireless router, this one would be hard to beat.

It works but had set up issues
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Took a few more minutes than expected to get it up and running. I had trouble getting a few devices connected but was able to get everything connected. My Ipad had dropped wireless a couple times and that never happened with my previous router.I thought adding a usb HP printer would be easy but I was wrong. Its far from plug and play to get a printer working with the base station. Been trying for a couple hours now and nothing works.

No internet connection with older PCs
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I hate to give this thing one star, but I know everyone reads the one-star reviews first, and I want people to see this. Here's what I wish I had known before I bought one. 1. Initial setup MUST be done on an Apple product. This is not a problem because at Best Buy they can do it for you in store. But, if you wanna change those settings later, you're out of luck if you don't own an Apple product. In addition, the router can only be accessed through Apple's Airport Utility, whose user experience on Windows feels handicapped. 2. My Dad's Compaq Laptop running Windows Vista could not connect to the internet via the airport extreme. Apple support couldn't figure out why. This leads me to believe that certain older laptops just can't deal with the Airport Extreme. Anyways, I'm sure this product would be amazing if I had all Apple stuff, or all newer laptops and PCs. The nicer devices in my home worked with this router flawlessly, and I would recommend it to people with nicer stuff. But this router may just be too advanced for older stuff.

Constant Struggles
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've been having issues with my airport extreme since I purchased this product. Gaming is impossible. It kicks you out of every game you try to play due to its "bridging" settings. If you have more than one like me, the two routers try to work together wirelessly and give one room a stronger and more stable connection based on how much data you are using. We've tried hard wiring to fix the problem but nothing has worked. Buffers throughout 80% of the house and crashes whenever it wants. Usually every 30 minutes. When the routers DO WORK, the internet is awesome. But again, that's only 20% of the time. Maybe I just got some defects. Who knows.

Better than...?
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.A several years old Belkin N+ router out performs this Apple Airport Extreme router. I was having internet issues so I upgraded to this Apple unit. Issues did not improve so I contacted phone/internet company. Phone company did work on line and jacks in house. When they did the work they also installed a new modem/wireless router. The cheap router that the phone company gave me works better than the Apple Airport Extreme router. The Apple Airport Extreme router is not worth $199 and I would not recommend it.

Awful set up
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.By far this has been the most difficult router setup I've ever experienced. Three hours in and still nothing. I've set up 7-8 previously without difficulty. I'm very frustrated at this point!

Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. All these comments are a bunch of lies. If you have comcast DO NOT buy this router it's completely useless. If you play or plan on playing xbox DO NOT buy this router it's complete garbage.

Consistent signal but not long range
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My devices connect to the device well, but the range is not even close to as long as the associate told me it would be. I wish it would extend further to all areas of my house.

If you are a PC user, don't buy this
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased an Apple AirPort Extreme based on the recommendation of the sales clerk who seemed to know a bit about wireless networking and new technology. I am completely disappointed in the device and how it works with PCs. It works fine with my wife and children's Apple products, but not the PCs. The instruction manual lacks detailed instructions on how to set the AE up with PCs. Apple help desk wasn't much help either. They pointed the finger at my computer and external hard drive saying that the reason the AE didn't connect was because I had a bad Cat5 cable and that my external drive wasn't formatted correctly. Neither of which were true. I finally got my PC to find the network after downloading the recommended software on a wireless laptop. I had to copy the software onto a USB drive and then load it onto my desktop PC. None of these instructions were mentioned in the instruction manual. I still cannot see the external hard drive on the network. After having this device for a week and having more networking troubles than I have ever had before, I am returning it to the store today and getting a Netgear Nighthawk. I hope to have better luck and less frustration setting it up. So I urge you, do yourself a favor, if you are a PC user, don't buy this product. You'll just frustrate yourself. If you are an Apple user, then you'll probably be okay.

Quickly became unusable
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My DSL modem could not longer deal with the number of connected devices I have in my house. I placed that modem in bridging mode in the hope that this router could handle the connections better. For the first few days this looked to be working. Then my network started to randomly lock up and I would reboot the modem and router to clear. I have owned this about 10 days and eventually the reboots no longer cleared the network. The apple router seems to be rebooting regularly on its own. I finally replaced the apple router with an old cheapy NetGear N dual band and configured it for the same routing chores. It is working without any issues. Side note, the airport utility is pretty worthless. It can be used for configuring and checking connected wireless devices and signals. It is void for any diagnostics. Obviously the Apple Extreme I purchased is a dud. However, in trying to figure out what was going on I really found the airport utility disappointing and hampering. My suggestion, avoid this router and the equally disappointing airport utility.
