    Excellent Replacement for TWC-owned Equipment

    Posted .

I have used the Motorola SB6183 for my home, multiple friends and multiple client locations. It is more compact and I find highly more stable than the equipment Time Warner Cable supplies it's customers with. And, why lease the device for $7-$10 per month when you can break even on the purchase in less than 6 months? Simple installation calls for replacing your TWC-owned equipment with this device, powering it up and then calling TWC technical support with the Model and MAC Address of the new unit. Return the old one to TWC and you're not paying the lease any longer. The black one is much sleaker and disappears with the rest of your equipment. The LED indicators can be quite bright and distracting at night so "dimming" them with a piece of paper or other diffusion medium is advisable

    Awesome Modem

Purchased to replace the Comcast Xfinity X1 modem/router/telephone combo piece of junk that came with my installation. Many times the Xfinity modem would loose connection, nearly weekly, even though the lights would indicate online. I even checked the service status online with my cell phone and found Comcast claimed "all good" on their end. Would have to reboot the Xfinity modem MANY times to get it back online AND work with my ASUS RT-AC68P router. Brought it home dreading the pending phone call to Comcast here in Hillsboro, Oregon. Plugged it in, opened my browser and presto! - it self activated on my account within 15 minutes - NO NEED TO CALL COMCAST!!!! Unplugged the PC ethernet cable, plugged it into my router - rebooted both and online again. Modem works great - still getting 124Mbps DOWN / 12Mbps UP. Lost the landline VOIP phone - only got it because it was free and no one calls it but telemarketers anyway. Will keep the phone line on the account only because will I loose the new customer 2YR bundle price if I drop it increasing my monthy Comcast bill. This modem is worth EVERY PENNY!!!!

    Modem Upgrade

I bought this to upgrade more than stop a monthly payment and that is exactly what I was wanting, faster speed, no interruptions and easy to connect. You will have to call your cable company and give them your new IP of the modem.

This unit worked right out of the box all I did was call my cable company gave them the mac id, then plugged it in. I was connected to the internet in 5 minutes. I have WideOpenWest (WOW) cable they recommend calling them first. I used this unit to replace the rented modem from my provider saving about $10 a month. I have a 4th Gen Airport extreme connected to it for wifi and no issues. I only pay for internet speeds 15 down & 2 up this unit is a little over kill for for me and i would have been fine with the SB6141 but I do plan on increasing my speeds in the near future. If you have a V.O.I.P. phone with your cable company this will not work for you. But you can use a aftermarket V.O.I.P. with it like obitalk or ooma through your router. I am using obitalk with no problems.

We recently got rid of cable and switched to online streaming for movies and TV and wanted to make sure we received our signal as fast as possible. This modem was easy to set up, easy to use and we've had no issues with it.

Best Cable Modem for almost everybody.

Great Modem. It has 16 downstream channels and four upstream channels the highest available for cable service (COX or TWC) It does a great job of handling our COX’s network congestion than my previous 8×4 cable modem. because each channel is almost like a separate connection: If one channel is congested, there may be capacity on another. It is very easy set-up, just plug coaxial cable from your internet provider and Ethernet cable to your router. If you are using cox, call them for modem activation before installing.Very Stable connection and I haven't rebooted for any problems. I would not recommend buying DOCSIS 3.1 modem now. Save money buy this DOCSIS 3.0.

I could have gotten the cheaper Motorola-Arris cable modem with 8 channels for $30 less and my speeds would probably be the same. I went with this version with 16 channels so if my cable provider ups speeds later the modem should handle it with no problems. The extra channels can also help if your local area gets heavy useage where you notice slowdowns, like after dinner time.

Motorola - Arris SB6183 Cable Modem

Was upgrading my cable modem from a Motorola SB6121 because I discovered that my internet service supported 8 download channels and the SB6121 only supported 4 download channels. I pay for 100 Mbps download and I was getting 115 Mbps so I thought maybe I could squeeze a few more Mbps out of my service. That was not the case. I now get 116 Mbps. However I will keep this cable modem in the event that I ever upgrade my service to the 300 Mbps service which supports 16 download channels.

In my area my provider, Charter, lists 100 MBps downloads My SB6141 was pulling 57-65 MBps & upload 5 MBps. I decided to try to update to this modem either hoping that it would increase my speed, or at least prepare me to have the higher speed once it's in my area... I setup it up, had it activated... and boom my downloads now test at 95-114 MBps and uploads at 11 MBps. Worth the price.

With the 16 channels even though Cox currently only recommends 8 channels, it has increased my speed by 20% higher than that I pay for. It is worth your money to get it. In my area Cox only offers speeds up to 150 and I get about 190 with this unit. The Unit I purchased from Cox I got about 120 - 130.
