Q: What is the difference between the SB6141 & SB6183?
A: The difference between the 6141 and the 6183 is the number of pipelines the Modem will handle. To give you a better idea: http://www.arrisi.com/modems/datasheet/SB6141/SB6141_Data_Sheet.pdf vs http://www.arrisi.com/consumer/_docs/Co-branded_DataSheet_05Jun/SB6183_DataSheet_05Jun.pdf The 6141 is more ideal for people who are not into the higher tier, high speed connections as they will only have 8 pipe lines for Data versus the 6183 with 16. Unless you are really planning on switching over to a higher tier plan, you will not use the full 16 pipes or gain the higher speed as it will be the ISP provider who will make use of the pipeline channels. The flipside, though, even with the lower tier plans, is that with the additional channels, if a few of them are flakey, you have other pipeline channels to fall back on. The important question for you is if you really want to spend the extra money for the additional channels of support, knowing you will not upgrade to a higher tier plan and whether or not your connection to the internet is 'flakey' or fairly stable. If it is fairly stable, go with the 6141, don't spend the money on the 6183. If you plan on going to the higher tier plan or your current plan shows a lot of noisy/error channels and connection must be 'rock solid'... You may want to consider the 6183. Note, the 6183 will not necessarily guarantee the BEST connection status over the 6141, even after what I said. You will want your ISP to look over your cable connection first before seriously looking at a modem as well. I only state the 6183 will probably help with connectivity given the additional channels for the ISP to rely on, but an expensive modem will not be able to overcome a bad cable run.

This modem gives you extra speed if you have Comcast, and you get the 150mb tier speed. I'm paying for 150 down and 5 up, but I'm getting an average of 180 down and 6 up. I've tested with multiple speed tests and servers. The slowest I've gotten with this modem is 178 download, and the fastest I've gotten is just over 184. Line quality is perfect and without packet loss. My ping on different servers locally is 4 to 7. Never any errors. The only negative I've found is it runs hot. You will need to place it where it has air all arpund not in a confined place. Also, when we had a big heat wave it got warm enough to lossen the cable in the back. I tightened it back up and it hasn't been a problem since. I highly recommend this modem if you have Comcast 150mb speed. And I also hear that it gives some extra speed on the 105 speed, but I can't varify that. Also got the price match from Amazon. Hope this review helps!

The Motorola Surfboard SB6183 cable modem, while being a tad higher than I wanted to pay, still pays for itself in the end. It not only will save you those pesky modem lease fees the cable companies charge, but this purchase will also future proof your broadband connectivity in that one shouldn't need to upgrade their cable modem for a year or two. You will definitely notice a speed difference increase with this modem, especially if you're currently using an older modem that has 4 or 8 bonded download channels. The SB6183 has 16 bonded downloaded channels at its disposal. This means if you're subscribing to the say the Time Warner 300/20 service and you're seeing speeds at half that with the older modems, purchasing this modem will correct that and get you in the fast lane. This product is definitely recommended, even if you're not subscribing to top tier broadband because eventually the cable companies will force you into a newer model of cable modem, so why not take advantage of the future today and purchase the SB6183? You'll be glad you did.

I initially bought my Motorola SURFboard Modem SB6121 back in 2014. I have utilized it for many Internet providers to eliminate the equipment rental fee that a lot of them try to charge per month. My current Internet provider is Spectrum, which I have the 100 Mbps service plan. My speed was around 110 Mbps when I did some various speed test. I decided to upgrade my modem since this one had a high Mbps throughput of 172 Mbps & upgrading my plan to 400 Mbps was only an extra $20. I went ahead and bought the SURFboard Modem SB6183 to prepare for my faster speed. When I did the speed test, it had increased all the way to 240 Mbps. That was with only changing out the modem! Now I’m debating about increase my speed as the SB6183 has doubled my speed alone (it can handle up to 600 Mbps). The changing of the modem was as simple as plugging in the coaxial into the modem and an Ethernet cable to my laptop. Then I was able to inform my provider via an online internet tab that popped up. I highly recommend trying to upgrade your modem or to purchase one instead of paying rental fees that cost you more than a modem. I included pictures of the modem in the dark, so that you are able to see how much light is seen when it is on.
