    Hot Garbage with xfinity...

Utter trash...of course with xfinity it makes it worse, had this for about 6 months and it seemed to be working fine, then all the sudden my internet went out, I troubleshooted everything imaginable, apparently comcast was sending the wrong Ip address to it and it wasn't getting an internet signal, so they sent out an xfinity rep to resolve the problem, but even he couldn't figure out what was going on, it left him scratching his head, so I had to rent the XFI modem which is $14 dollars a month, so there's $150 down the toilet, very dissapointed with xfinity and Arris, will be switching to At&t real soon where the modem rental fee is included in the advertised price..

Worked great until it just stopped working after only 17 months! Had to buy a brand new one. Had the cable company come to fix our connection and couldn’t believe it was our modem that we only used part time! Super disappointed

Fast & Easy to Install on Time Warner Cable

    Posted .

I am on Time Warner Cable's 50Mbps plan and I am consistently getting 56-60Mbps down. (The modem configuration page says I have 16 bonded channels down and 4 up.) I like that this modem gives me room to grow if I want to upgrade my plan and future-proofs me a little as the DOCSIS technology advances. I am using this with an Apple Airport Extreme AC Wi-Fi with no issues; I have DHCP and NAT enabled. I like how small the device's footprint is; it's about the size of 3 CDs together on a shelf. It also doesn't have a huge power adapter block along the cable you have to do something with. It has a small transformer on the plug that goes sideways/horizontal so doesn't cover/block the outlet below it which is nice. The only thing I'm not over the moon with is the very bright LED status lights on the front of the device. I just put some electrical tape over them to keep the blue hue from being so pronounced at night. Some of the light does bleed out of the top air vents and this can't really be prevented. It's too bad there is not a setting in the modem's configuration page to dim the lights. The primary driver for me to purchase this modem was to avoid paying a $10/month rental fee as a new customer. Extremely easy to install - they just added the MAC address (found on the bottom of the modem and on the box) to their system. It took about 5-10 minutes for the modem to update its firmware. Then when you load the internet for the first time you direct your web browser to rr.com. This pulls up their modem activation page where you answer some questions to verify your identity with TWC and then I was surfing the net.

Works great once installed, but the instructions did not say too register with cable provider. Waited on hold with customer service before being told to call provider. The customer service rep even admitted it should be added to instructions.

    Stay away! Puma 6 modem!

Usually SB series modems are terrific. That is because they normally use a Broadcom chipset. Unfortunately, this is the one SB series model that uses an Intel Puma 6. The Puma 6 is bad news. Look it up. It has glaring performance issues that have been publicly acknowledged by Arris. Best Buy shouldn't even be stocking this model. The cheaper Arris SB6183 performs better than this modem. For most people, the 6183 will handle your needs. However, if the SB6183 isn't enough for you, get the SB8200. This is a fantastic modem and what I switched to after returning this model. Whatever you do, STAY AWAY from this specific model and any other modems running the Puma 6.

    Not a good modem

I bought the SB6190 and a router with WiFi to replace the Xfinity modem that I was renting. Sometimes the internet would work great, but I would notice from time to time packet loss and jitter. After calling Xfinity and do some basic troubleshooting, they said that everything was good on their side and that I should contact the manufacturer, and while doing some research online, it looks like all modems with Intel Puma 6 have the same issue and there is already a class-action lawsuit going on.

    DO NOT BUY THIS MODEM

I am blown away that this SB6190 unit is A) still being sold by BBY & B) Is being manufactures by Arris; even after a class action lawsuit a few years back. Simply searching "Arris SB6190" will yield plenty of information on this front. Arris swapped out their modem chipsets from Broadcom to Intel based ones and evidently this unit is STILL AFFECTED IN 2021. I have been wondering why I get random drops in my connections throughout the day (happens on average 4/5x per day; that I notice). It is absolutely shameful that Best Buy has not pulled this product from their shelves yet. There is a substantial issue which is WELL documented with this product, yet they continue to sell it? Best Buy should not be selling this specific product, period.

Modem's WiFi Stops All the Time

Purchased at Best Buy 28th St. Grand Rapids, MI. I've had the Arris Surfboard SB6190 setup and operating via Comcast (Xfinity) WiFi (Up to 200) for about a month. Noticed the plastic protective covering over the front of the modem was stuck, as if it had been glued to the cover. Could remove it all. This modem works great for several (3 or 4) hours and then stops sending WiFi for about 10 to 15 minutes, then it's back. I've rebooted the modem every day, but it continues to be a problem. I visited Best Buy, waited for a Geek Squad rep to talk to, but he said he couldn't help. Told me to call the help line, which I did, then after nearly one hour of waiting, gave up. I don't think I'll renew by Geek Squad technical membership next year.
