Only buy from an authorized retailer like Best Buy

I made the mistake of buying this from Amazon retailer DOCSIS Networks and unfortunatly only saved about 3 months off my cable bill, before Comcast realized the modem was stolen. I contacted Arris and they confirmed that it was sold to Comcast and Not DOCSIS Networks. So now I am out the cost of the Modem. Of course Amazon won't let you leave this type of feedback.

Works as expected. This does not have a built-in router, so you will want to get a wireless router to connect this to in a home internet setup.

I bought this modem to replace my dying refurbished SB6141, but apparently this was a bad choice. Although I am getting the speed I pay for now, there is alot of lag when looking up URLs or trying to just go to sites like google. Its been almost a year since this modem has been out and still the released firmware has not fixed this problem.

    Connection/Upstream Lock-on issues

We needed to update our customer owned Motorola SB5100 DOCSIS 2.0 (YES, IT IS ANCIENT!) cable modem. It has worked flawlessly for 13 years and saved us a bundle on rental fees. Naturally after experience such good service from the SurfBoard modem, we sought to purchase another Motorola product and learned that the brand was purchased by Arris. After much research, we picked the SB6190 thinking we would be future proofed for many years. Although the reviews for this modem were overwhelmingly positive, unfortunately it didn't work with our service provider. Best Buy was awesome in allowing us to return/exchange this modem when the ISPs customer service rep thought it to be defective. The second SB6190 also failed to provision. This prompted a call to Arris. Their customer service rep was excellent and knowledgeable about the product. According to Arris Technical support, the SB6190 modem requires a 45-52 dBmV power level to lock on to the upstream signal. The measured upload signal at our house was 39.5-40 (as indicated by our sb5100 status page). At this point, we were beyond the capability of telephone support and scheduled for a service visit. After about two hours of troubleshooting by the cable technician and fixing some minor problems, the signal improved slightly, but was still not enough for the SB6190 modem to "provision" and lock-on to the upstream signal. I asked the cable installer to assist in troubleshooting by installing one the of the ISPs modem units which happened to be a Motorola 6580 modem - wireless router combo unit. It instantly locked onto the signal and provided the expected performance. After reinstalling our "old" SB5100, we again contacted Arris and asked about a cable modem product that had a comparable spec to the Motorola 6580. Arris recommended we purchase the Arris SB6141. The SB6141 immediately provisioned and is working perfectly.

I had to upgrade my model per Comcast and this has worked perfectly since. Its more expensive than other options and had more bandwidth than I needed, but with tech changing so fast, I'd rather have the 'better' that goes obsolete a little later than the 'good'.

It’s just a cable modem. It has one job, and it does it well. One thing to note is that you’ll want to make sure you have a device with an Ethernet port if setting up internet w/isp on your own.

    Cox Can't Handle it.

I am sure its an awesome modem. But it isn't a Cox approved modem so they would not provision it. I was told it is because their techs won't be familiar with it. What does a Cox tech know about a modem other than plug it in...call to provision? Wish we had Comcast here, Cox is irrelevant.

Seems to have improved my system reliability. regrettably, it is a replacement for the same modem after 18 mos service. Hope it lasts longer than the other one
