    VPN Connection Problems

I bought the SB6190 modem to replace SB6141, which, although working fine for me, xfinity said the SB6141 was no longer supported. It setup ok, but I had to call Xfinity to reset the modem to get the actual speeds I am paying for. However next day I could not get a connection to business VPN. I tried all the usual suspects (PC reboot, Wifi router reboot, direct wire to modem and still no connection. I eventually cycled power on this modem and VPN connected fine. 2 days later had the same problem again. Rebooted modem and ok again for another day or two, problem repeat. Searched dslreports and found there are a lot of problems with this modem. Returned it to BestBuy and went to the Netgear CM1000 - working just fine.

Easy set up and fast print speed. It takes a bit to start up and is a little loud but overall a good printer.

I received this modem yesterday, after registering it I started gaming..... ran great for a while, then I had several lag issues.... looked in gaming forums and found out that the processor on this modem causes major lag on lots of online gaming sites.... returned it today

Puma 6 chipset defect, no 1Gbps download support.

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Despite the listed supported download speed of 1.4Gbps, Comcast does not support speeds over ~688Mbps with this modem. If you have Gigabit internet, do not get this. Also, this modem uses the Puma 6 Intel Chipset which has a documented flaw that can cause severe latency issues. I don't understand why Best Buy still sells this modem and others with this chipset. Don't get this if you care about having good internet service.

I heard about the hardware problem on this modem after I purchased it. After looking through the control panel, I saw multiple errors occurring. Later, I purchased a 24 channel Netgear and it works much better.

    Not worth a penny

Absolutely terrible modem. I'm just glad I paid for the Geek Squad coverage so that I was able to return this for a refund after over a year of dropped connections. I did some research which led me to some comments about the faulty chipset in this modem. I chose to replace my router (at the advice of Arris and my ISP), but the issues continued. The modem would frequently (More than once per hour) fully drop the connection or just randomly reboot. I talked to my ISP and they said my speeds are fine but noted a lot of random disconnects. I talked to Arris and they said the dropped connection was a result of bad speeds from my ISP. I went back to my ISP and they offered one of their modems free of charge. I've been using that for about two months and the connection hasn't dropped even once. Same ISP, same apartment, same coax port. Would not recommend this modem to anyone. Save your money for something better.

    Quit after 6 months

First time I purchased my own modem, was recommended this one by a store associate, thought we had a winner. Was easy to get set up but has quit after 6 months. Arris will only replace after going through their troubleshooting protocol. Have trashed it and gone back to leasing a modem from cable company.

    Why so bright ?

This modem appears to work fine although my 250 internet speed is no faster than with my previous 8 X 4 modem. The problem with this modem is the indicator lights. They are like searchlights. I have the modem in a closed bedroom cabinet yet the room is so bright you cannot sleep in it. Lights also seem to generate some heat. Makes you wonder who was the genius who designed this.

    good speed bad unit

I have done my extensive research on Arris SB6190, and was torn between getting a docsis 3.1 new version of this because of the chip that's used in Arris SB6190. While the guy who helped me in store have suggested the arris SB8200, but because of the cable company I'm using (Spectrum)...I see it as more of a risk because it's not on the spectrum approved list. After reading on bestbuy reviews here, I still bought the SB6190 hoping that I won't have the problem from PUMA 6 CHIPSET. For the first 2 weeks (during the return period) it worked fine. After the 2 weeks (non-returnable period) it started failing a lot. I have to restart my modem every 2 days because there would be all the sudden no connections. The worst time was that I had to restart 3 days in a row.

Serious performance issues due to bad hardware . .

I waited a while for this unit to be out and about and the reports of any problems to roll in and eventually it sounded to good to true. So got this model for me and several others and now I find out it was a mistake. Slowly after a while problem reports started rolling in that Arris used the the Puma6 chip in these and there are now Latency, Lagging and other performance issues related to this chip surfacing. There has been really no word of any action from Arris, no recall or any real movement on a fix other than a couple of firmware updates that don't entirely take care of the issue. Best advice is to buy a modem that uses any other chip than the Puma6. NO PUMA6!!!!

    Bad chipset, mislead consumer, fraud

I have been using Surfboard modems since 2010 when I purchased my first modem. My last purchase was the SB6190 ARRIS DOCSIS 3.0 Cable Modem / Retail (serial 7CH3X6339302033, HFC MAC Address 58:19:F8:FC:85:73) from Best Buy. The purchase was expensive, so before I made the purchase I did research. I communicated with Arris and Cox Residential Cable and both confirmed that the modem would support gigabit internet that would soon be available by most ISPs. It is not compatible. The assurance Arris provided me was why I bought this modem. This purchase has resulted in me losing money at the advisement of Arris and ultimate gain of my financial loss to Arris. I feel that I have been taken advantage of as a consumer and am so disappointed as a loyal customer. I am seeking recovery of my financial loss or an exchange for a modem that is actually compatible with gigabit internet services.

This delightful waste of resources is by far the least reliable device I have had the misfortune of disgracing my home in years. After a few weeks it now randomly fails and disconnects for up to a half hour, requiring a reboot to even access the underwhelming web interface it has, and does not retain troubleshooting logs when rebooted. It requires a fan on it to prevent overheating, and shouldn't be trusted as far as you can spit a dead plague rat. Unless you have a desire to have your internet connection randomly drop several times a day. Do not let this abomination defile your network.

Modem that won't last long in performance.

Less than a year after I bought it, it gave me nothing but crappy signals. I called Cox tech several times already and they told me it is the modem that is not performing. I have been using it for about 8 months. It affects my work from home performance greatly and I could be well let go from my job for not being able to be productive. It kept dropping me in and out of the internet connection. Guess I got what I paid for. I am going to be looking for a new modem that is reliable even if I have to pay more money for it. So horrible. Would not recommend to anyone who works from home. It may work for you the first three months or so before it starts to give you nothing but problems.

    Poor Life Span

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

At the rate this modem dies out it shouldn't be worth more than $50 at most. I've gone through 2 of these modems in as many years. That's it, about 1 year maybe 1 and half years is all you're going to get from its life span before it has trouble staying connected anymore. It will suddenly start power cycling repeatably. You may even call your service provider to come inspect everything and while I'm sure they'll replace a few connectors it will always come down to the fact that this modem is not worth the money at all. Arris is a cheap knock-off what what Motorola used to stand for. Save yourself the troubles and just go with another brand.
