This is NOT a gigabit modem!! Anything over 800mb will cause it to pause. Best buy sold it to me as a gigabit modem, it also said on the box it is a gigabit modem. Trust me, it is not!!! Call Arris. They will tell you the same thing. I will nevery purchase ANYTHING again from best buy. I hpe the close up!!

Works just fine once Comcast does their part.

The modem itself is easy to set up. Unpack, plug it in. The difficult part is NOT the modem's fault.. the difficult part is dealing with the incredibly slowwwwwwwwwww technical people at Comcast/Xfinity, whatever they are called. My advice is to NOT use the "chat" support but rather get on the phone with them. I feel that every response I send to them has to be run through Google translate so they can read it, then they run all their responses through Google translate to send back to me. Very frustrating and slow. After working with those monkeys (I guess that disparages monkeys) they got me connected and now I am getting my advertised speeds. It only too nearly 2 freaking hours, at which point I gave up chatting with the tech support.

Lightning fast and easy set up

I originally purchased the Netgear CM500. The set up was a bit of a pain. I had to connect to my router and then call Comast to have them recognize the router and set it up over the phone. Then I realized since I pay extra for faster speed internet, that I needed a faster modem with possibly more channels. Purchased this bad boy and I'm very happy! Set up was easy! As soon as I plugged into my router and powered on, a set up page appeared on when I opened my laptop, and it actually worked! I didn't have to spend 30min on the phone with Comcast to set up. Also, it's really fast! At first, I noticed my Firestick was lagging a little but realized some apps were slowing it down. After uninstalling and force stopping others, it's functioning as it should be. Side note: We usually stream on 2 tv's and have a gamer in the house and it's still fast!

    The best 3.1 Modem

I purchased this to replace the new Netgear Orbi system with the 32x8 3.0 cable modem built in because I was having bad problems with the Orbi modem. I have had 0 problems with this Arris modem and it's even 3.1 versus the 3.0 in the very expensive $400 Orbi system I replaced. The Orbi system would lose signal from Comcast (Xfinity) 2-4 times a day and my security system with 3 cameras would freak. I ended up picking up the regular AC3000 Orbi system to pair with this modem and it works amazingly, I get almost 300mbps download (on a 250 plan) and 12mbps upload (on a 10mbps plan). It was a lot more pricey to get this modem separately with the regular AC3000 Orbi system but it's been worth the money so far!

Great value for money. Unless you have(and pay extra for) cable download capacity of a GB a faster modem is wasted. This modem will probably be good for quite a few years given how slowly cable has upgraded speeds. BestBuy mad the purchase easy. I ordered it online, and it was available in an hour at the store. I walked in picked it up, and walked out in about ten minutes.

Great Modem, but the install could use more instructions. We eventually had to contact our internet provider, which was a requirement. It would have been helpful if that were more clear with Arris' instructions.

I really do like Arris brand for when it comes to having a cable modem. Pretty much all you have to do is plug it in, call your cable company (most likely xfinity) and let them know that you have a new modem, let them do their magic and you're done. The unit does get a little toasty so I wouldn't recommend shoving it in a corner where it can't breathe. Also you might want to save a little money on this modem if you don't have gigabit internet and get the DOSSIS 3.0 version of this modem for slower speed unless you want to future proof yourself. I don't think you would be getting any advantage if you don't have gigabit internet otherwise.

After looking at comparable modems I decided on the Arris Surfboard SB8200 to replace my Xfinity gateway modem. Overall wifi performance and interface with my replacement router exceeded expectations. I am now receiving the contracted speeds and coverage that I have been paying for. Excellent price point and performance.

Was not compatible with Suddenlink service

I had the 3.0 DOCSIS model and it worked fantastic. Unfortunately the DOCSIS 3.1 is not compatible with Suddenlink (Our local internet provider). There's nothing wrong with this cable modem, however I Can't use it for my intended purposes. In addition when trying to figure out if it was going to be compatible, I ran past the return date and now I'm stuck with it and I can't use it. That is no fault of Arris. I've got nothing bad to say about Arris because like I said above, I was using the model below this one and it worked great for >6 years.
