Got to have one
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought this for my mother in law. I have had a Garmin gps for 10 years and I wouldn't go on a trip without one. They have been very reliable and only replaced them, to get the new features. love the lane view when entering exits on the highway. Got this one on black Friday for a very good price.

Decent GPS, but...
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This Garmin is a decent GPS, but it would be better if alternate routes were more clearly offered - and if you shift to map - and out of directions, that it would stop audibly telling you where to go - so annoying that you are tempted to tell it where to go...

Somewhat useful
||Posted . Owned for 1.5 years when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought this for a trip from Southern California to Sacramento and quickly learned during the drive it wasn't going to be easy to use. Probably should have tested it out first but struggled to set it up as it required you to to a pre test route of some sort to get it started, then you have to keep it going for a certain time. It also kept shutting of and not allowing the touch screen features at times. Ended up not using it and thrown it to the back of a high shelf it the storage room as the return date had already passed. Ended up using and preferring the phone map over the navigation for any future trips.

Great GPS at great price
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Was on vacation when my Tom-Tom GPS just stopped working. Needed a new one to get me through parts of my trip and to get back home. It was easy to use and was a quick set-up straight out of the box. Love how it tells you what lane to get in for upcoming turn-offs and/or exits. My Tom-Tom didn't do that!

Solid unit for the price
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Overall I have been happy with the GPS. Good picture quality and feature set for the price. I have another Garmin so understanding the software and updating was not an issue for me but I remember early on struggling a bit with learning how to update.

Great for Personal Use
||Posted . Owned for more than 2 years when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Not for commercial use but great for personal use. It will take you down small city streets and not trucker friendly streets. I bought it to use in my commercial vehicle.

GREAT FOR TRIPS
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First one we have bought. Got it for our trip to lower U.S.A. Took us awhile to figure out how to set it up, but finally did. But they SHOULD INCLUDE THE WRITTIN DIRECTIONS, Instead of just putting them online, which is BULLSQUATT!!

Great Gps for road trips
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this Garmin gps because we where going to take a road trip, and phones gps doesnt work in the country. Base GPS
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. You get yearly map updates but I’m use to new maps every three months. Roads change rapidly. Only Street names that you’re turning on. I’m used to watching the Street names all over. You can’t view written directions so you have an idea what to expect. The voice directions are spot on target. Better than the GPS that I prefer. This was purchased by my husband to get him home 4 states away with heavy traffic. For that it was great. It gives us a 2nd device if needed. This will be fine for someone but I like more options.

Posted .There are two ways to charge the internal battery in your automotive device: Use the vehicle power cable that came with your device or Use an AC power adapter accessory, such as a wall power adapter. This Garmin Support article provides all the details:

Garmin: easy to use
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Garmin - Drive 51 LM 5" GPS with Lifetime Map Updates - Black was very useful to help find motels and points of interest during my recent trip to Ohio. The lifetime maps are an excellent addition. I appreciated the notices for schools, speed limits, and street names.

It's okay
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So this is the first GPS system I've had. I did lots of research and asked around and they said get Garmin, it's the best. Well....I'm not so sure if I'd call it the best. I've actually contemplated about taking it back. I bought a GPS because I was going to be going to Florida on vacation, my phone last time kept losing its signal (I've since gotten a new phone), and I wasn't for sure if my rental car would have GPS in it, and I needed to know how to get around. I updated the GPS before leaving (which took at least 6 hours). I ended up using my phone GPS to get from the airport to the hotel because the guy in the car lot pulled my car up for me and there were people behind me so it was just quicker. Once I get to the hotel I plug my GPS in to make sure it is still fully charged and I added in all my locations I'd be going to for sure. Well someone told me about Lovers Key beach so I tried getting the GPS to tell me where to go and it couldn't find it. (It took a little bit to realize I was in Florida and not Iowa anymore too. It couldn't find one of the addresses I was looking for either.) So that night I used my phone GPS to get to the beach. The next day I was headed to Ochopee so I plugged the GPS into the car and programmed it. Well, about halfway through the drive I realized the GPS died while it was plugged in. Thank God I had my phone GPS on too (because of the issues from the night before). So all day Monday I couldn't use this device. When I do get back to the hotel I plug it in there to charge and go to use it Tuesday and it again said it was still dead and wouldn't turn on so I plugged it in again and left it in the hotel, using my phone for the 3rd day in a row. I didn't need it Wednesday as my aunt who lives down there took us places. Thursday I didn't even bother trying to use it, I just used my phone to look up shopping around the area and had my phone give me directions. FINALLY, on Friday it worked the whole way to my destination though I had my phone going too just in case. I just ended up using my phone the rest of the trip due to the bad luck I was already having with it. Yesterday was the first time I've tried using it since that Friday morning two weeks ago and it worked going to my doctor's appointment (again I used my phone too just in case, but it did work). It did take a little bit to find the address though. Because of it not working when I really needed it to I say save your money and try something better. If it wasn't for my phone GPS working I would've been completely lost in Florida.

Very easy to use right out of the box.
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This was perfect for the person I bought it for. She didn't want anything to be connected to her cell phone or Bluetooth as she was driving. She returned 2 from a different on line store. For a lot less she is really enjoying this one I got for her.

It is very nice. The only thing I would change is
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It works really well. I would like to see a camera with good storage and an option to select highways when possible. A lot of times it takes me down city streets and backraods evey though I have it set on fastest route and avoid unpaved roads.

Not bad for the money
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this to replace a TomTom and it's not bad for the money, it just has a different set up for my old device. The only drawback to buying this unit, is that it only comes with a US map and you will have to buy your other Maps separate.
