Posted .If the device won’t power on when connected to the vehicle power cable, a soft reset should resolve the issue. Connect the device to the vehicle power cable, or an AC adapter. Press and hold the power button for 10 to 15 seconds. Once the device powers on fully charge the battery. Posted .Apologies for the confusion. This GPS does not require a cell phone to navigate or find addresses. The Garmin traffic service is ready to use out of the box, again, no cell phone required.

Setup was easy, voice input is crap. I tested it many times speaking extremely slowly and clearly, and not once did it get the address correct.

Bottom line, it’s not unreliable in that it frequently refuses to turn on despite being fully charged and/or plugged into my running car. A gps that only works occasionally is worthless.

Posted .Thank you, we appreciate your feedback. The GPS is designed to create routes by estimating the fastest and most direct way to reach a destination using major roadways. There are several navigation settings on your device that can affect the way it calculates routes.
To check Navigation settings: on the GPS select Settings, then select Navigation and check the following:
• Calculation Mode – Garmin recommends keeping this set to Faster Time
• Avoidances – place a checkmark next to items you want to avoid
Out-of-date maps or software can also cause your device to route inappropriately. This model includes built-in Wi-Fi for easy map and software updates without a computer.
