didn't like it
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I expected it to talk more, not just let us know when a turn is coming up, finally got so frustrated with it, I turned it off and used my cell, would not recommend it to anyone

Nothing but problems.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. In the beginning it would not link with Garmin Express. I used it on a trip and the screen went black ,but it started working again. The next time I used it the screen went black and never worked again. I returned it to Best Buy and was told to pick out one. I chose the Garmin Drive 61 which the clerk said it had the traffic app. This one seems to be working fine, but to use the traffic app. I need to have a smart phone or buy a $69.99 cable GTM 36-010-01009-02 from Garmin.

Not as good as the old Garmin nuvii
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. While I love the other features of re-routing traffic for accidents, this Garmin takes me out of the way and doesn't recognize addresses that my old Garmin did.

Nice to have but its not current
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This GPS don't have enough near by options and when you select a root, it doesn't show any alternative root. I will chose google offline maps vs this GPS.

Not what I expected
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Device is slow and not as updated as you would think. Google maps is better, and it's free. Enough said.

Nice screen
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I wanted to get a Garmin to ease up on my iPhone use. To me it seems very cumbersome to use. The voice action is awful. I would rather use my iphone

Traffic does not work good
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this for a trip that I was taking to Tenn. The directions are good and the screen is great but the traffic updates do not work at all. We hit major delays and the GPS did not alert us. I checked and it said it was searching for a provider. We are on a major interstate in GA a provider should have been found. I even paid extra to get a GPS that has lifetime updates. Don't buy this if you need the traffic alerts.

Wow! Voice recognition that works!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Very happy with this purchase. I have a new Ford Fusion and As much as I love that car, I wish they would install this Garmin in the dash from the factory! Only had it 5 days, but have used most of the bells and whistles, and flawless operation so far. Set a route thru voice command and detoured seconds later just to see how long it took @ 55 MPH. Accomplished everything I asked in less than a half mile at cruising speed! I had a couple of older cheapo Garmins and wow, Garmin GPS has come a long way!

Too complicated
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This unit was a waste in an urban setting. You can create a route, and it will change it on you after you begin to navigate. The system will not ask your permission before making changes, and get you way turned around in an unfamiliar city. I found it way too complicated to program even after trying it out constantly for a week. Too much button push for a simple route. I do not recommend this unit.

Not so hot
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Very disappointed in both the new Garmin and trying to contact Garmin itself. The first one was turned because it simply would not work. The second one works but has trouble charging. Tried calling Garmin and they tell at least an hour wait to speak with anyone. I had a Garmin for many years and it was very good. When it finally wore out I went for another Garming. Big mistake.

Trip Planner Makes This GPS Worth The Price
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'll start by saying I have no natural sense of direction and always need a bit of guidance when driving. My past GPS was good enough to get me from A to B. Recently, I've needed a way to program a route that isn't necessarily the fastest, such as going for scenic drives. Many GPS units only have the ability to program 1 waypoint, which just isn't good enough anymore. This GPS can store up to 1000 locations, and if I remember correctly, can program up to 200 of those points in one route. When you're trying to plan a trip through twisty back roads in the Fall, this becomes very helpful. I programmed a trip into the GPS with 27 waypoints to test the trip planner. It kept all points in the order that I wanted, but had a feature to optimize the route if I wanted (I assume this feature would be awesome for delivery businesses trying to order stopping points). This was the very first time I used this GPS at all, and I'm blown away at how great this trip planner works. It didn't miss one waypoint as I drove through the point and kept guidance immediately after so I never had to guess the route. I'm absolutely blown away by the functionality, and if this unit never has a fault, I'll never need another. I might as well mention the hardware a bit. The bezel is gloss black which doesn't reflect the sun onto the windshield or have any annoying shiny chrome bits; both very important to me while driving. The screen on this unit does not have any anti-glare coating, which adds to the awesome clarity of the screen, but if not angled correctly, can turn it into a second rear view mirror. The power cord is as thin as you can expect it to be, unlike previous Garmin units with traffic which had a large cord and inline plastic receiver which was an eye sore. The screen sensitivity was like that of a modern cell phone, requiring little force and the quickness of the input was top notch. Battery life off the cord didn't seem to be all that awesome, and it should be noted that no matter what kind of USB port this USB cable is plugged into, the GPS will think it's plugged into a computer and lock you out from programming addresses; be sure to start your programming with a full battery or connected to 12V in your car. Overall, love this GPS and can't wait to use it again to test out all of the features.

Worked less than a day
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was very disappointed with this product. Have always purchased Garmins, however this product had me out in the middle of nowhere and then shut off, it was charged and hooked up in my car. When I returned it, the customer service person said "why didn't you just use your phone". In which I would have but no had spotty service, i.e. Which is Why I purchased a GPS

Don't buy
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Delayed when first turned on. When starting to drive (even after waiting a few mins) the navigation doesnt start I have to drive out of a parking lot and /or drive way and guess which direction to turn before navigation starts. Who wants to do extra turning around for no reason. Also 30days after buying it sometimes it won't turn on at all.

Posted .Thank you for taking the time to write a review about the nüvi 2589LMT. I am sorry to hear that the device would not turn on after 30 days. Since the device is not powering on as it should it may need a soft reset. To power the device ON with a soft reset: Connect the device to a power source and then press and hold the power button/power switch in the on position for 8-10 seconds. Here is a link to a Garmin Support Center article that provides additional information and a video:  http://bit.ly/2mUqF0t Thank you, James
