Works with Marantec Garage Door Opener
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I installed this device last night and it’s working like a charm. I have a Marantec garage door opener, which is listed as not compatible with the Chamberlain product, and had been using another hardwired+app device that I bought online (for $99) but lacked Apple HomeKit (which I wanted most of all). It took me under an hour to install. Fortunately, the WIFI is strong in my garage (thanks to the Orbi). The instructions don’t tell you specifically how to wire it but just to observe how your unit is already wired. Mine had 4 wire ports in use and I realized that the first two were for the door-obstruction sensors (because each port had 2 wires in it) and that meant the third and fourth ports were where I would wire this device (to join wiring from the interior door opener). My first attempt to connect the device to my iPhone’s HomeKit seemed to stall after scanning the code with the iPhone and wouldn’t complete. I figured out that I could start that step over by disconnecting the device and then pressing and holding the device button (which is also the LED indicator) for 10 seconds until it reset (beeped). It worked on the second attempt. The instructions also said to place the device’s door sensor on an upper panel but I had the older device’s sensor on the center frame (just above center height) and placed it there using the adhesive strip. It connected (beeped) almost instantly (instead of the 10 seconds the instructions advised). Now I can just tell Siri to open/close the garage door, or ask whether it’s open or closed. This is exactly what I wanted, and it was rather inexpensive and easy to install. Highly recommend it. Just make sure you have strong wifi in the area.

Good product, spotty notifications
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I like the design and ease of installation. Simple and will work on most garage doors. Synced up with HomeKit with no issues. I did replace the batteries in the sensors just to start fresh. My only issue is that notifications from the doors opening and closing is spotty between my devices. Some generate a notification and some don’t, and sometimes it won’t notify on any device. When I go into HomeKit it always reads the correct status of the garage door, but I can’t rely on notifications to keep me updated. At least not right now. Who knows if that will get better if and when they add these to the Insignia app or not. Bought 2 for each garage door. Same problem with notifications on both, but a good product overall and can trust the status when I go into HomeKit.

Amazing! Best HomeKit product I've used.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am an Apple power user, and research HomeKit products a lot. I've had my ear to the ground for a decent HomeKit garage opener for a long time. I was going to get a Chamberlain MyQ originally, but then they pulled that garbage at the last minute of requiring a separate device just to make HomeKit work. No way. So I was shocked to randomly see this on Black Friday when I was walking through the store, when I hadn't seen or heard anything about it online, it's not listed on Apple's HomeKit website, and it is such a small, compact simple device. I haven't bought a device in years without researching it to death, but I decided to just give it a leap in the Black Friday spirit, and with Best Buy's great return policy. I should note, I prefer Apple's ecosystem for the uniformity, so the lack of support for Alexa and Google Home does not bother me, although I know this may be an issue for some. However, they are completely up front about this, it is just for HomeKit, and that is obvious in the name of the product. I am a tremendous skeptic, but this is basically how it went: Got home. Stuck the sensor on the door. Connected the two wires (easy). Plugged it in. Scanned the HomeKit code with my phone. And it was completely set up. Fully functional. That was it. No extra app to download. No configuration online, no WiFi set up, nothing. Fully functional out the gate. With no further set up, I get notifications whenever my garage door opens and closes, and I can seemlessly use Siri to open and close it. Has never failed once, and my router is on the opposite side of my house (I have an Apple AirPort Extreme AC model), although it does have warnings stamped all over it that it requires a very strong WiFi signal in the garage. Since then, I have set up automations in HomeKit which work really well. I can have the garage door open automatically when I arrive home based on a geofence, and close automatically when I leave. I really like that it has a warning feature. When closing remotely, it beeps loudly and flashes bright LEDs for 5 seconds before initiating the door close for safety. For opening, it is actually probably the most quickly responsive of all of my HomeKit products.

Great HomeKit Product
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have 3 of these. They are easy to install and work great with HomeKit. The "No Response" and intermittent problems can be related to a dead battery in the door sensor. I chased this for a while - resetting everything only to realize the battery in the door sensor was low and eventually dead. With a new battery the device works as it should. I expected the battery to last more than 2 months. That is the reason for the 4 star vs 5 star rating. Customer service is kind and courteous but did not ask about the battery. They had me resetting and delete/add to HomeKit. INSIGNIA >>> USE BETTER BATTERIES!!! YOU HAVE A GREAT PRODUCT - DON'T LET IT GET TARNISHED WITH A LOW QUALITY BATTERY.

Very good HomeKit garage control device
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am very pleasantly surprised by the availability of this device at such a reasonable price. Granted I got this on sale at $45, I definitely would get it at its regular price at $70 - knowing what I know now. Very quick installation. Very pain-free set up. I think it took me 5-10 minutes (getting a ladder out and etc) to complete everything. Only request may be that have firmware update support Alexa as well so I can have both Alexa and HomeKit control this but as it is, I think it's close to perfect. I can ask if the garage door is open and close if necessary away from home. I don't have to constantly wonder if my garage is open. Great job, Best Buy/Insignia.

Easy and great! but beware the battery!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This was so easy to install and pair with my HomeKit. I love that it is only for HomeKit since that means there is no other app to deal with. It is very responsive, too! Great instructions + easy installation, except: Like another reviewer, at first, I got a lot of "No Response" errors that would clear if I reset the unit, but then it would only open and close once or twice before going back to permanently saying "No Response". The CR2450 button cell battery that came with it for the door sensor was apparently just live enough to work once or twice. I tested it with a multimeter and it was reading 2.9V unloaded. (a new battery, by contrast, tested at 3.2V) Once I replaced the door sensor battery with a fresh one, it has worked perfectly every time! I suspect many of the reviews where it worked after an exchange may have been because of this. I spent a while thinking it was because of glitchy WiFi or networking, but nope! Big thanks to Greasefat for writing this solution into their review, I never would have thought to check it because the sensor seemingly was working! Would have been nice to have this as a troubleshooting idea in the install instructions but it is all good now!

Have I got a review for you
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I received this as a gift (I requested it) as I had been looking for a HomeKit solution for my garage. Installation took me less than 10 minutes including adding the device to my Home app. Things started out pretty great, I had visibility to the status of my garage door, had control from the Home app and could use Siri (provided the iPhone is unlocked) to open the door and close the door. After a few days, I was seeing ‘no response’ in the Home app and started troubleshooting both the device and my iPhone/iPad. The end result of this was amazing support from Insignia/Best Buy. If you happen to have a similar issue, don’t give up on the device. It needs a firmware update to be pushed from the Insignia support team. In the future, I imagine this won’t require a call to their support team, however I would mention that it was one of the easier support calls I have made. I am interested to see what other HomeKot devices this team has in the pipeline, this was an inexpensive way to modernize my garage door and make my home even smarter.

Works until the weather gets cold
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this when it was onsite for $45 a few months back. Setup was really easy and it was working within a few minutes. The Apple Home app is very basic and has simple controls for the garage door opener. I started having issues with it after the weather got cold here. I figured the battery in the sensor was dead, so I replaced it with a brand new one, and all the issues were fixed. A week later, same thing, the garage door in the app just septs saying "no response" or "garage door opening" or "garage door closing" depending on what I was trying to do. It turns out that the small CR2450 battery the sensor requires does not fare well in the cold here. The battery freezes and loses all its voltage. I brought the battery inside a couple times so it could warm up. After reinstalling it, the garage door opener would work great for a couple hours. This is obviously a huge inconvenience for those of us who live somewhere that is cold for 6 months out of the year. Winter time is when I REALLY want to be able to see if my garage door is open or closed. I do NOT recommend this product for anyone who lives in a colder area of the country. Best Buy obviously didn't do their research on how well a small watch battery will work in a cold garage. Maybe they have a fix for it? I'll try to contact support and see, but until then, I have a wifi garage door controller that just does nothing in the winter.

Posted .Troy,
Thank you for your feedback and using the Insignia Garage Door Controller. We are sorry about your experience during the recent cold weather. The door sensor and the battery were validated for operation from -13F to +113F (-25C to +45C) as indicated in the product's users guide. This past January though some parts of the US experienced unusually cold temperatures of near -30F which is well outside the rating of the door sensor. We continue to look for ways of improving the sensor performance in extreme environments. If your door sensor experienced connectivity issues in the temperature range stated in the users guide, please contact our support team so that our technical staff could troubleshoot any potential issues with your specific door sensor.

Works Beautifully
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I missed the first sale, but was able to catch it when it went on sale again. I must say I was hesitant you purchase after all of the negative reviews, but figured it couldn’t be any worse than the MyQ reviews lol. My house is new and I have been loading it with home automation items and this was definitely on the list. Install was easy. Only snag I had was I run a separate VLAN for IOT devices and wanted to to this on that VLAN, but since it’s a HomeKit scan; I was forced to put it on my main network. Ive only encountered two times where I get a no response but I force press into the button and it refreshes and shows closed. I didn’t want to risk it so I rigged up a Wyze cam in the garage to monitor of its open or close as well. But overall great product and very happy!

Easy install, great price
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So if you have a sectional garage door (like the one in the photo on the box), your opener motor has an available outlet nearby, it doesn't have a learn button, you have a hard wired wall switch, and decent WiFi in the garage, this should work great for you. I had all those things and was looking for an alternative to the Chamberlain in this price-point. It installed very easily and I have had no issues with connectivity in HomeKit (only had a day though). It tells you whether the door is open or closed, and you can use Siri commands or the Home app to open and close the door. Install took less than 10 minutes.

Simple install, works great
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. At my old house I had a MyQ. MyQ worked pretty well, other than the promised Apple HomeKit never appeared and would sometimes give false positives ie door was opened when it was really shut. This install was fast and easy. I liked that it directly connected to the garage door instead of being programmed as a remote. Made install faster and simpler, for me anyways, as compared to MyQ. I like that it can be intergrated into HomeKit and thus Siri. I hope that someone (maybe Insignia/Best Buy) will release a fluorescent light that is homekit compatible. Would be a great scene to have the light automatically turn on when garage door is opened and to automatically turn off at night. One improvement would be to have alerts based on door being left opened. With MyQ I would have an alert setup if garage door was left opened for 30-minutes.

Easy Install / Flexible HomeKit Solution
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Some have been pretty harsh on this item. It is currently the most affordable, reliable, adaptable HomeKit garage door controller on the market. Does not require additional subscription to operate and installs effortlessly. Tips: Ensure you have the latest firmware, if you don't and call they will assist. Be patient. Strong WiFi in your garage and a HomeKit hub device. If you have guest network enabled on your 2.4ghz router - turn it off! It can also cause problems with other HomeKit devices especially if the SSID is the same for both network frequencies. Installed in 15 min, 2 adapters are available. My firmware version is 2.63.40

IT WORKS!!!!!!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We have dozens of HomeKit devices in our home and our experience with a previous HomeKit garage door opener - the Chamberlain MyQ - was far and away the worst. It took multiple days to figure out how to set it up and eventually the only thing that worked was finding another user's guide online and following their extremely specific directions to the letter. But even then it barely worked, and when one of them stopped working and disappeared from the Home app, I threw in the towel in disgust. The units sat unused, mounted on the garage ceiling, mocking me. Then I read about the Insignia garage door openers. I watched and waited for it come down to the $45 sale price I'd seen others mention and then jumped on it to grab two. So far, I've had the polar opposite of the Chamberlain MyQ experience - the Insignia units were easy to set up, worked correctly the first time, and work every time I need them to. The hard-wired installation process is both more straightforward and more reliable than the MyQ's wacky learning / pairing / transferring to the HomeKit bridge system. There's no separate app to deal with, either - setup is done right through the Home app as it should be. Plus, the design itself is just really lovely - no wall warts or extra power cables to deal with, just plug it directly into the wall outlet. It was also really nice to see that there was a button on the unit itself that will activate the garage door. This seemingly simple element took all guesswork out of whether or not I'd wired it correctly - a simple press of the button told me I had. And if you're worried about having to hard wire it into your garage door opener, don't be. It couldn't be simpler, and if you can operate a screwdriver you'll be up and running in 2 minutes flat. Just follow the wires from your existing wall opener button and plug the included wire into the same spots. Seriously, just dead simple, and Insignia even includes separate cables in the box for whether your opener has screws or easy-insert terminals. Overall, I'm just really, really pleased. I'd basically given up on having my garage door openers be automated through Siri/HomeKit, but this has given me the functionality that the Chamberlain MyQ was never able to. Good job, Insignia, and if this is the sort of HomeKit product you can come out with, I hope to see more from you in the future.

Open Sesame!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The range on my old garage remote was horrible. Even with fresh batteries I would stilll need to roll down the car window to activate the door after multiple clicks. Sometimes I would step out of the car and point the darn thing directly at the antenna through the garage window. It really defeats the purpose. This Insignia smart garage controller was exactly what I needed. It was super easy to install and worked flawlessly from afar. Best of all is the ability to use Siri to activate the door. ...Now I wonder if I can use the phrase, “Open Sesame!”

Posted .Hi,
Thank you for your review and comments, we are glad the Insignia Garage Controller solved your garage opener range issue. With an AppleTV or HomePod setup as a hub, one can control the garage from anywhere as you discovered. Regarding your wish to have your garage door open when you say "Open Sesame", this can be done by simply naming your door "Sesame" in the Home app and asking Siri "Open Sesame". Feel free to contact our support line at 877-467-4289 with any additional questions.

Exactly what I have been dreaming of!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you have an Apple smart home and use the Home app and HomeKit this is hands down the easiest way to bring your garage door into your smart home environment provided TWO very important things. 1 - You absolutely need a modern wifi system, like Google wifi or some other mesh network to ensure your garage does have a GOOD wifi signal. 2 - Your opener CANNOT have a learn button on the panel in your garage. I do not have this button so I cannot speak to where it should be or what its purpose is. This unit was intended to work with openers that have an ONE or THREE button panel to operate the door from inside the garage.

Current Situation: Temperamental at best
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. One day after installation this HomeKit device reported "No Response" in the app even after resetting its power, the home wi-fi network and my 3 HomeKit hubs. Removed and re-added the accessory in HomeKit. Now reporting correctly and working again. A rather worrisome incident occurred - during the issue, using MacOS, HomeKit reported the door open while the iPhone iOS HomeKit reported no response. The door was actually closed. Clicking on the MacOS HomeKit icon physically opened the door (but including the warning beep for door closing) and then reported it as being closed! After that incorrect action it reported no response. Suspect software issues with this new product. I plan to return the product if it remains unreliable. Works great, when it works...

Simple setup
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I looked and looked for a simple garage door monitor/control to sue with Apple HomeKit. I have a LiftMaster single door unit. The MyQ Home Bridge, Hub wireless remote and $1 a month fee I found ridiculous and overly complex to just activate and monitor a garage door. That setup would also cost close to $200 with everything needed to make it work. This simple solution cost ~$50 and was installed, up and running within 15 minutes. My biggest hurdle was which set of wires left group or right to connect to. I had a 50%-50% chance and wired it wrong the first time. i re-watched the video and read another answered question here about using the left set and whoala, it worked. I've already created automation with my HomeKit to turn on lights when the door opens after a set time and to notify me when it opens if no one is home.
