Easy Installation. Works well.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Easy installation. Hooked it up and it works. I suspect that the open/close sensor works by orientation. If it is vertical, it assumes a closed door. If it is horizontal it assumes an open door. If this is the case, mount the sensor high on the top garage door panel as the instructions indicate.

Waste
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this when it first came out being hopeful. I had a bunch of problems and got a "No Response" error all the time. After resetting it, the error would just come back. After about a month, it starting working pretty well, but ONLY ON WIFI WHILE AT HOME. I have my Apple TV 4k set up as my HomeKit hub and all of my HomeKit devices work perfectly when I'm home or away. However, this garage door controller always gives "No Response" when away and it never works remotely through the hub when all of my other devices continue working flawlessly. This makes it useless to ensure the garage is closed when away from home which is the only reason why I bought this. I called Insignia support and they do not understand the product at all. They didn't know about the HomeKit hub until putting me on hold to research it. He then came back and told me that I needed the HomePod for this (not accurate). I explained that the Apple TV can also act as a hub. He was also asking me about what app on my phone I was using. He didn't seem to understand what the Home app is on the iPhone. Eventually after 30 minutes and being placed on hold numerous times while he researched, they are adding me to a beta firmware version which should be updated on my garage controller soon. I'm currently on firmware version 2.6.3. I'll see if this fixes anything and will report back if it does. Until then, this product is next to useless.

Shame about the firmware process
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Was excited to replace my existing MyQ opener with this but it turned out to be a dud. Everything set up and connected quickly but the device simply won't control my door even though our opener is clearly listed as compatible. I've spoken to technical support 3 times over the last 2 weeks and they say a "simple" firmware update will fix the issue but unfortunately, they have not been able to follow through and send the firmware update. It seems like the product was launched before being ready for primetime and a user-initiated firmware upgrade was possible. Quite disappointing.

Easy set-up, and works great!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is my first HomeKit Accessory, and I was worried that it would be difficult to set up and use. I spent no more than 30 minutes getting it installed, and it worked on the first try!! I highly recommend this product.

Unreliable
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Buyer beware - this device works great for a few weeks, but then stops working with Homekit. Given I am in the tech industry and have fully embraced the home automation trend, I can say this product needs more quality testing before being sold. I have two garage doors, a full mesh wifi system throughout the house (including repeaters in both garages) and desired a way to connect my doors to Apple Home. All other Apple Home accessories work perfectly (<1% failure ever); however, this product is simply unreliable. No Response issues similar to what others have experienced, indications door is open when it is actually closed (or vice versa), linkage between door sensor and controller lost randomly, etc. No ability to return so I'm out about $140 for what I originally thought was a perfect solution. Highly recommend you read all the reviews. While I wanted to only believe the positive reviews; however, I've personally found the negative reviews to be far more accurate in my experience.

Frustrating "no response issues"
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Agree with the other posters about the sensor not working properly. Don't think placing a shim under them will work long term. I spent hours on this device and came to the conclusion that the switch in the door sensor is not reliable. It has a moving part in it that either opens or closes a switch to tell the main unit when the door is open or closed. An example is when I close the door using Apple HomeKit, the accessory will show the door closing but will not show closed when it's done, it shows closing for about ten minutes then goes to a no response. But, if I tap on the sensor with my finger a few times, the switch does its thing and sends the correct door state (open or closed) back to the main unit. Therefor I don't think a firmware upgrade will help, this is a hardware issue. IMHO>

Works as advertised!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It worked so well for my 2 car garage door once set up, I bought 2 more for my parent's doors. Mine's a +30 year Chamberland. Their's are < 5 years. They've all been working more or less flawlessly. Once in a while, the Home app says they're not responding. Just give it a couple seconds. I think I've experienced one version or another of every setup issue raised in the reviews. The trick (not documented so well in the pamphlet) is to either unplug/replug the controller, restarting the phone, putting the controller in setup mode, and making sure you're on the same wifi network.

easy to set up but notifications not reliable
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Overall, satisfied that I can use homekit to open my garage doors with it from work. But the notifications are not consistent or reliable. Sometimes I get message garage door open/closed and sometimes no notification at all. Is there a problem with exchange between going wireless and cellular??

Works great!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Installed it last night and it works great! The instructions said the green light must be blinking to pair with HomeKit. When I first power down the unit the light was blinking so I thought it was not necessary to press the reset button. I was wrong, the pairing was not initially successful until I pressed the reset button to heard the beeps and saw the greenlight blink. Now I have set a schedule for the garage door to automatically close every night with the help of my Apple TV 4K.

I tried — hard
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am approaching a dozen HomeKit accessories running well. After upgrading to a nice tri-band Wi-Fi 6 mesh last week, I was ready to finally tackle the garage door. I chose the Insignia because of many good reviews and my disdain for any smart accessories that require a bridge for HomeKit compatibility. I really wanted the Insignia controller to work and spent several hours trying, including with unsupportive technical support who insisted incorrectly the wiring might not be correct. The system easily joined my HomeKit network and always correctly reported the garage door position when I opened/closed the door via the wall button. Unfortunately, there was an issue with the controller software or hardware so that it would not send a correct signal to my Liftmaster opener. Instead it was stuck Closing... or Opening... while my opener flashed error codes and couldn’t “learn” the controller. Manual testing of the Insignia controller did not prod the Liftmaster. Supposedly a firmware update can be coaxed from BestBuy as a last-ditch effort, but additional hours were wasted pursuing that dead end. Instead, I purchased another one online and then drove 25 mi to get the last Insignia system available in my area. To add insult to injury, my curbside pickup turned into an out-of-stock text just as I pulled into the Best Buy lot. I went into BB anyway and purchased the MyQ Garge Hub. Although I knew otherwise, I let the BB smart home guru convince me the MyQ system was HomeKit-compatible without purchasing an additional bridge (that BB doesn’t seem to sell). Now, I have the MyQ working through the lame app while I await delivery of the bridge from Chamberlain — the bridge I was hoping to avoid with the Insignia design. And check out that horrible Chamberlain privacy policy! Overall, it’s been a lousy experience and my first HomeKit disaster.

So far so good!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I punched a MyQ hub first. It worked but was very annoying with the long wait before closing and the non stop beeping etc. Not to mention the app would log me out every time and didn't support HomeKit without an additional $80 purchase??? So I went looking for something better and found this. It was even easier to install than the MyQ and worked perfect the first time with just the built in Home app!

Simple and Excellent Garage Door Controller
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Very happy with the device and it works really well. The installation document can be improved for the non-techie users especially on the wi-fi setup. The instruction should state the device/phone used to setup insignia should have 2.4Ghz and rest is the breeze. Good product to make the old 2-button garage opener to the latest HomeKit compatible using Siri in a fraction of cost. Kudos to the team developed this device.

Not Reliable
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. When I saw the price on this door closer I had to give it a try. I have two side-by-side garage doors and often have one or the other left open, usually because my car incorrectly activates a signal and opens the door when it shouldn't. I give the product 5 stars for easy installation. Both units were installed within 20 minutes. I take away 1 star because the product requires 2.4 Ghz WiFi in a world that has long since moved to 5 Ghz WiFi. My mesh network supports both 2.4 and 5 Ghz WiFi, but I had to temporarily reconfigure it to separate networks in order to pair these devices to Apple Home. The notation that a STRONG signal is required suggests that the manufacturer believes the garage should have a hotspot in it. I take away 3 stars because the door position sensors are completely inaccurate. The status I constantly see is one of three states: "Updating" which never changes; "No Response" which means the unit isn't reachable; "Open" when the doors are actually closed; "Closed" when the doors are actually open, If I leave home, get away from my home WiFi with my phone, and try to check status, the status is incorrect; I've stood up the street out of WiFi range with my phone and tested this. Apple Home works via the Cellular network when WiFi isn't available, and all of the lights and other devices controlled through Apple Home work when I'm away from home. SOMEtimes, if I force quit the Home app and relaunch it, the status shown for the openers will change—not necessarily accurately, but it will change. Since I bought these units in order to be able to remotely close open doors when neighbors alert me to open doors when I'm away from home, these units are pretty useless to me. The only way I can see to overcome these problems is to deploy a camera inside the garage to be able to actually see whether the doors are open or closed; even then, there is no guarantee I'd be able to activate the doors to close them. I'm not terribly upset because these were a cheap purchase; but if you want reliablility, find some other option.

Terribly inconsistent...I should've never left MyQ
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Simply put it DOES NOT WORK like it should!!! Most of the times Siri cannot find it...and when Siri does it is only functional about 25% of the times. There have been times it says it is in the process of closing but never does. I have lost so much faith in this unit. Even though MyQ didn't have Siri at least it was reliable. Yes my Wifi is VERY strong. Connection is good. iOS is up to date. Have ipad and Apple TV as a hub. ONLY thing I can think of is that there is some issue with my Apple wireless router but doubtful.
