Doesn't work with Ryobi
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Phone support was useless. I love having to say everything twice. Wasted 45 minutes of my life with them. The Ryobi GDO isn't listed as supported but it doesn't have a learn button. Phone support says Ryobi is compatible according to their system. hmmm. It is connected to Wifi and the door sensor. Solid green light. Home app notifies me when the door is open and closed. Pushing the button on the controller produces a click and nothing happens. I am guessing that Ryobi did something funky with their wall mounted button signal...

Posted .Hello Kevin,
Just as we explained to Billy in another review, we really appreciate your feedback but at the time of launch for this product we did not have access to all available garage door openers for compatibility testing. The Ryobi garage openers incorporate a Smart Indoor Keypad which unlike other compatible garage openers do not have the simple 2-wire interface to the Open/Close wall button panel switch. We will continue to investigate other methods of interface to Ryobi and other garage openers and will update the compatibility list accordingly.

Works for a few hrs then gets a NO RESPONSE error
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After installing this it will work for a couple hours... Shortly after, I get a "NO RESPONSE" error message in HomeKit. I tried everything from reinstalling the device, unplugging, re-pairing the sensor. I'm a networking engineer and I know it's not my router because I have 80mbps in the garage. Every time I reset the device, remove from HomeKit and re-add to my wifi, it will stay connected and function properly for a few hours then I will get the same error message. It's easy to install but the No Response error message is VERY FRUSTRATING.

Posted .Hi Jim,
We are sorry about the intermittent connection experience on your garage controller. In some cases these issues are related to the HomeKit hub connectivity. If you have an AppleTV or HomePod, please try power cycling them once. You may also need to log out of your iCloud account on the AppleTV and log back in for the system to fully sync. Removing the home from the Home app and adding it (and the devices) again may also resolve the issue in some cases. If the issue persists, please temporarily move the Insignia garage controller inside your home closer to your WiFi router on the same 2.4GHz network/subnet as your AppleTV. If the controller remains online, a WiFi extender in the garage would resolve the connection issue.
Otherwise, please contact Insignia Support at 877-467-4289 so that we could help you troubleshoot it further. We look forward helping you get your garage controller fully functional.

Great device
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Definitely this is what I was waiting, I replaced my current MyQ smart hub I hated they don’t offer compatibility with apple HomeKit this is a must for me because everything in my home is iPhones, iPads, Macs, appletv etc no way to keep using MyQ if this is way better I like everything controled by a single app period. Works perfectly with my LiftMaster opener. (Learn Violet button)

Most inconsistent HomeKit device
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have had this garage opener for 6 months now and it has actually worked smoothly for less than 10% of that time. It constantly shows no response even though I have reset and reinstalled on HomeKit several times. Save your money or seek an alternative solution. This device will only bring you frustration and constant uncertainty of if your garage is open or closed.

Frustrating at first, but once setup works great!!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The garage door controller took 15 mins to setup. But after working just once, I encountered the dreaded "no response" issue. When I tried to reset, Homekit would not recognize/pair with the unit. So I changed the battery in the sensor and also requested firmware update. Unit now works flawlessly. Worked even at -11F this morning!!

Reliability is nearly non-existant
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was initially excited about this product, but since I installed it, it has been more of a headache than anything else. From connectivity, to Homekit not being able to reach it (I have great wifi reception, the device is less than 20 feet from an access point). Battery on the garage sensor also tends to die quickly. I'm usually a rather tech savvy person, but this device has me stumped. I would not recommend purchasing this device.

Works well!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have had zero issue with this unit. I have excellent WiFi reception in my garage, and haven’t seen any of the issues some people have reported with it’s connectivity. Simply put, if you don’t have good WiFi in your garage, don’t expect a WiFi connected product to work well. I’m very happy with my purchase.

Not ready for primetime
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review."No Response" in Home app after a few days which requires me to climb a ladder and reset the device. Then it'll work for a few more days before getting stuck with "No Response" again. I've been in contact with Insignia support for over a week now with no resolution in sight. They blame Apple and say Apple needs to fix the Home app but the bottom line is that this thing doesn't work.

No Response error
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this with high hopes of solving the "did I close the garage door" problem. I checked the wifi signal in my garage using my phone and it was a full strength. After a relatively easy set up, I was able to open the garage door and close it one time. From thereafter I got a "no response" error inside of apple homekit I followed a bit of advice from other reviews: updated router firmware, double checked strong Wifi Signal, took the control unit inside next to the router and then back out, shimmied the sensor on the door. I tried my phone and ipad both. Deleted and then added the device to homekit multiple times. Each time I'd get one opening and shutting of the door and then "no signal". Repeat process, try everything again. Same result. After a few hours I finally threw in the towel. It's too bad, this is exactly the product I needed.... if it actually worked. I purchased two (one for each door), and now headed back to Best Buy with a return.

Won’t stay connected
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Easy to install and add to HomeKit, however it won’t stay connected for more that 2 days. I have had to delete and re-pair multiple times. There is no way to update firmware, the Insignia smartphone app does not support the garage door opener (only smart plugs, switches and cameras).

No logging
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This product and the whole Apple HomeKit is insecure. You don't have logs of who opens\closes garage door and when. It only delivers the one time events about open\close and these events are informative and not very reliable. Sometime I'm getting 10 events about closing the door.

Great idea, but totally unreliable
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've been looking for something like this for months. My garage door opener is from 1991 and uses simple momentary normally open push button switches to operate it in addition to its radio remotes in the cars. My home wifi is a Netgear Orbi mesh system with a satellite. I get great signal strengths in my garage with excellent up and download speeds and low pings. I have an AppleTV 4 as well. Nevertheless, after setting it up with one of my two doors, it worked twice then reported "no response" and various messages that it was unable to report its status, etc. I did get one notification on my iPhone that my garage door was open. That was neat. I unpaired, re-paired, moved it around, etc. I even tried a Netgear 6100 extender. Rarely would it work as designed. Totally unreliable. I bought two of these for Black Friday price of $45. They were shipped separately and I haven't even taken the second one out of its packaging. Back to the Best Buy store they go tomorrow. I'll wait until I see evidence of product improvement before I consider purchasing again. I'm disappointed. It seems like such a good idea.

Posted .Hello Doug,
First of all, thank you for your feedback. Several Netgear wifi routers including the Orbi mesh models similar to yours have been reported to have issues with HomeKit connectivity. Netgear has since provided firmware updates to address this issue. See https://kb.netgear.com/000059433/RBR20-RBS20-Firmware-Version-2-1-4-16
and https://kb.netgear.com/000059432/RBR50-RBS50-Firmware-Version-2-1-4-16).
Please check your router's and the satellites' current firmware and update to the latest version. This is likely the cause of the intermittent operation and "No Respone" behavior in the Home app that you have been experiencing. Also, feel free to contact our support at 877-467-4289 if you would like additional help.

No response, like everyone else...
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was really hopeful that finally I had found a product that would work with HomeKit. The unit setup and paired very easily and worked right out of the box...for a minute. Since that initial excitement, it has been almost nothing but full-time "No Response" messages from Homekit for this unit. It has never worked when away from home (I use an old iPad mini as a hub for Homekit). resetting and re-pairing do not help at all. Sometimes the "No Response" clears if I try another device at home, like my watch or iPad, but not always. Tech support just told me that it was signal strength and had nothing else to offer. MyQ works perfectly from everywhere, but just doesn't include Homekit. I will give this one more chance today, then I am returning it and ordering the MyQ Bridge to enable Homekit.

Poor Customer Service
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased the Insignia™ - Wi-Fi Garage Door Controller for Apple® HomeKit™ - White today, and ran into the same problem that many other people have had with Homekit stuck on "Opening." So, I called Insignia at 877-467-4289 which I saw in many of the responses to reviews left here. I was expecting to reach a qualified person at Insignia who could assist me by doing the Firmware install described in other comments. After sitting on hold for six minutes, the person who answered transferred me to an "Insignia Technician." Another five minutes and that person answered and quickly transferred me to a Geek Squad Technician. That Geek Squad Technician determined that this wasn't something he could help with and transferred me to a Geek Squad service account salesperson. She quickly determined that she couldn't help me, and now she is transferring me BACK to a Geek Squad Technician. I hope other people have had a better experience calling Insignia for support.

Installs in minutes, frustrating forever
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Like most reviewers, I had no difficulty installing this. I plugged it in, wired it to the opener, and paired it with HomeKit without issues. It works great as long as I stay home. If I go away from home, the Home app either shows that the door is perpetually closing, or I just get "No Response". If I'm at work and want to see the status of the door, I'm out of luck. If I unpair and re-add it to HomeKit, it might work for a day or so, then it goes back to "No Response". Until there's a firmware update to fix this, there's no way I can recommend this to anyone.

Great product, works every time!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Works all the time, not 50% of the time like the one I just returned from another company, very easy to instal and setup. Works OK
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. When the directions say you need a strong WiFi signal take it to heart, even a minimal drop in signal and there is no response. Using a WiFi extender positioned 10 feet away makes the response sluggish at best. That being said, the price is right but if another product came along that worked better I wouldn't be opposed to moving on from this product.

Worked great... twice.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. As others have been noting, this device seems like a great idea and it was great both times it worked. Now it is generally no response - or it spends long periods of time (e.g. days) "closing...." with no effect. Worse yet, I called customer service with Insignia, spent an hour on the phone with them, only to have my call escalated. Usually, that means a transfer - but with Insignia, it means "we'll call you in 4-5 days" and then fail to follow through on that promise. Still no resolution. Its just a waste of money.

Works when it wants to, which isn’t often
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you are looking for something to monitor if your garage door is open or closed, keep looking. Excited when I first got this, but that lasted a few days. Then the problems started. It constantly would not be online, so I contacted service “support” and got the you’re really important to us line, so important months later I’m still waiting for their call. I tried advice I found online and replaced the sensor battery and wow it worked, for about 2 days and back to on and off again. I put a booster on my WiFi, no change. Bottom line, you can’t rely on the product as it works and doesn’t work at will. Service support is useless they just claim to be really busy. I can understand with this product. I would highly recommend looking elsewhere for a garage door monitor this would just be a waste on money and your time.
