It really does work!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I cancelled my home phone because it made my cable and internet package quite a bit more expensive. I figured I'd buy this and try it, but was very skeptical. It really does work!! It is extremely easy (for anyone) to hook up. You literally just plug it into your modem, then plug your phone into it. It does need a power plug outlet. Registering only took a couple of minutes and I was given a new phone number. There is no difference in sound quality with this service and regular phone service. Excellent. If the price stays low each year and does not increase like cable does every year, I will definitely keep it!

works well, saves money
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought this on sale to update from an old MJ unit that still worked, and since a year of service is included, it really cost very little. Easy to install, and works almost as well as landline phone - certainly better quality than cell phones. Occasional issue with beeping tones during conversations (same as the old unit) but not a serious issue. Magic Jack has allowed us to keep our landlines number while dropping our 3 service cable package saving $120 per month - very satisfied.

Warning - if you port your existing phone number
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you decide to port your existing home phone number to MagicJack it can take up to 10 business days before you can receive ANY phone call! I believe that restriction should be more evident on the MJ website and packaging. I think the only place it appears is buried in a lengthy TERMS document that you must agree to before signing up. On the bright side, you can make calls right away but you can't receive them. I've read others saying MJ has poor customer service. But I must say my experience with their chat line tonight was quick and acceptable. One more thing. If you decide to port your home phone number DON'T cancel your local or your long distance service on that number until AFTER the transfer process is complete. MJ told me they will email me when the transfer process is complete. Time will tell.

Not bad, works pretty good...
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.MagicJack adapter is pretty good, 3/5 sums it up pretty good. Call quality when calling from the device is mostly clear, device needs to be reset (disconnect, re-connect) probably every few months (3-4). My biggest reason for marking it down is because the android/iphone app is pretty bad. Calls don't always come through, app crashes frequently, and doesn't always connect. Also, last gripe about the service is the caller id does not show names, only numbers of callers.

Good alternative to traditional phone service
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We recently eliminated our home phone when our cable bundle expired. We not use MagicJack for our landline based calls. The set up was very easy. Existing number can be ported. However be sure to start this process at least 2 weeks before terminating service. The number must still be active in your name to be ported. Reception is normally good. Sometimes you might experience an echo similar to a recorded line. Having the app is great. You can receive or make calls from your home number using your cell phone. The price of the service is a fraction of what you would pay for even minimal service through a traditional carrier. Local and domestic long distance included. International calls can be made with prepaid minutes. If you can convince your international friends to get MagicJack those calls can be included as domestic.

Great value for simple service
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is just right if you just want the added security of a landline in case of emergency or if you are required to have one. Simple service at a good price.

Pretty darn good
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I moved into a home and my cell phone doesn't work. I needed something in my house but didn't want to pay for a telephone so I got the magic jack. What I like about magic jack is that it affordable and convenient. I plug it up into a regular cordless phone which I like. Only issues is sometimes sound quality can be a little off. I actually transfer my cell phone to my magic jack number which has an app that rings so I never miss a call and I save on minutes. Sometimes the app doesn't work.

Easy to set up & great call quality
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought a Magic Jack ten years ago so I had an idea how they worked, but envisioned it still being challenging to set up. A lot has changed! My mom’s friends rave about it, porting their landline numbers over or setting up a cheap new line to call US and Canada without worrying about cost per minute and monthly landline charges/taxes/fees. I gave this new version as a gift to my mom a few days ago after she’d been discussing the idea. I helped her set it up but she could have done it on her own I think. The ethernet cable was included, and phones already have a cable so the box comes with all you need, as long as you have an internet setup already. You can also power it by usb or use the AC adapter, which we did. Within minutes she had registered - detection was automatic, and picked her number. Call quality was fine on the app and our landline phones, which is important when we are calling older relatives hard of hearing. I prefer the app actually to Google Voice, no weird call display numbers. Magic Jack should warn that there may be additional 911 taxes if you choose that - my only real concern. We did get a small invoice from our county for the year but were able to pay that through Magic Jack’s site too. That fee is also much less than we’d have to pay monthly to the telephone utility or even our cable company - we tried that out and it was still expensive once the deal ended. We love that we can take this Magic Jack with us and use on our cell phones. A year of service included, and I don’t see why we won’t continue using it long term. Why pay more for home phone?

perfect for someone who needs to cut the cord!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.i needed to keep my home phone number, so I decided to cancel my home phone service with Comcast and I just kept their internet access. This thing pays for itself! No longer do I have to pay ~$30 a month! it's only $50 for the whole year! It's a no brainer. Glad I was able to keep my 24 year old home phone number, it would have been sad to part ways with it. Best of luck!

Easy Setup, good quality
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I got Magic Jack to reduce the cost of my AT&T landline, which was running about $56 a month for pretty basic service and no long distance.I paid $35 for the MJ Go, which includes one year of service. I used the set up option of connecting directly into the wireless router (AT&T Uverse). The registration process was simple and worked fine. I chose to port my landline number to MJ. Note there is a $19.95 charge to do so. They say to allow 5-10 business days to make the switch; it happened for me in two! Note also that you have to pay separately for 911 service - for me it came to $6.00 a year. Also, the caller ID seems to be number only, no caller name. That's a little of a downer, but that's what my cell phone does. I haven't noted any drop off in sound quality. Compare $35 a year to almost $700 a year it seems a pretty good deal.

Cool and inexpensive alternative home phone plan
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Another sweet recommendation by the Best Buy associates in the Pinole, CA location. Stil in the honeymoon stage
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Currently have the product for about a week. MagicJack sent an email stating that it'd take about a week for the number to transfer over. A week went by and MagicJack was right on schedule. Number was transferred over and home phone service was automatically canceled. Audio quality is great. Have not had a problem with it except my daily wake-up call from automatic bot calls are gone LOL haven't had a single automatic bot call since MagicJack was installed.

Love my Magic Jack GO
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Easy to set up, I connected mine to my router directly and using two AT and T cordless phones with it. I get voice mail, caller ID, call forwarding, call screening, free nationwide long distance etc,, everything that I was not getting with my $45 a month AT and T phone, which is history, Should have done this years ago. I had one issue of a couple of calls being dropped, and used their tech support to find out my Modem/router needed rebooting. Did that, and now everything is working perfectly.

Best Home Telephone Service
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.MagicJack is fairly easy to install (if I can figure it out, anybody can) and is way cheaper than paying for a landline. You can keep your phone number, caller ID, and even voicemail for one low annual fee. (1st year is included in cost of the device.) Am happy several friends encouraged me to do it. Stop paying a monthly fee to a telephone service provider. Got internet? Get MagicJack!
