    Loved it...Until it sucked

I live overseas and bought this to keep in contact with family at home. Easy set up and worked great until I updated my Mac to El Capitan. Then it quit working. It appears there is no fix from Magic Jack yet despite the fact this OS has been out for months. Would not recommend to a Mac user,

    Do Not Buy

After 3 months I suddenly had no dial tone. After spending 2 hours "chatting" (there is no other way to get support) I was told "If the blue light is on your unit must be working, but we'll refer this to engineering." Then I was told that even though they were sure my unit was working properly I could pay $26 and have a replacement module mailed to me.

MJ Misdials certain calls, does not route audio

    Posted .

    1. Just had a terrible experience with Majic Jack. 2. When dialing from MJ they misroute certain numbers. 3. When calling MJ using a magic number, the audio from a Tmobile cell doesn't get through, from Google Voice the audio is low. 4. This seems to be a system problem to me. 5. Spent hours on chat with MJ trying to resolve to no avail. 6. They claim they are going to escalate, but it took them a week to send me an email which has a link to issue a voice trouble request. 7. They seem to have product problems too, advertising a power filter that protects against over charging. If the product was designed right, that wouldn't be needed. 8. We'll see if they can fix these problems, but I doubt it. 9. I bought it at BestBuy and returned it in 14 days, so I got a full refund. To avoid number charges, only used a magic number.

Backup extra phone line for out of the country

I am a little frustrated with this product, but I am hoping that it will work itself out once we use it. We bought it for a military deployment and after following the set up directions we tried it out. My son was able to hear us perfectly but we could not make out his voice or what he was saying. Magic Jack did work with us over the phone but they couldn't get it to work either. I heard this is a wonderful product so maybe we just got unlucky and it was a defective one. I will keep trying to make it work.

    Very low volume

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

The setup software has volume level controls, however, it is extremely low. No matter the setting, it doesn't sound right. It over amplifies the ear piece making a hollow and/or echo sound with possible feedback. Also, this is not good for faxing. Compatibility is very limited. Depending on your unit, there might be adjustable settings. All in all, you get what you pay for.

    garbage product, garbage service

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Had MagicJack for 4 years. It's a scam. constantly having quality issues. They'd fix it, then it would get worse. They charged me a one-time fee to port my number from Qwest, then they charged me yearly, then they charged me $30 to take my number when I finally left. Customer service is a joke - online only with people who are just reading scripts. No call blocking, no joining AT&T or Webex conference services. Just total garbage.

MagicJack has Gone down hill over last 7 years

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Would not recommend MagiJack any longer, Used it with my computer for years with little problems except for hard to hear voice. I remove my MJ from my computer when not in use because of all the ad solicitations I kept receiving. MJ only allows you to block 100 callers. I maxed that feature out long ago. So I just unplug it from my computer until I have to make a call. One day I plugged it back in and it stopped working, So I tried the other known good one I bought and it too would not work, On line tech support MJ chat says I have to buy another one in order for MJ to work. Give me a break.

One MJ has you number you may no get it back!

Would give them a zero if this was an option. Trying to port my number now to Tracfone and no help even with chatting between Tracfone and MagicJack. Have had the service for years and I wish the app worked. I have it on my phone and then it works for a day or so then I do not get calls anymore. My phones are getting old and I do not want to replace them so I am in the process of moving the line to google. I 1st need to move this to a cell line before Google will allow the move.

Tragic Jack would be more like it

I had high hopes for this device, but after spending most of a Saturday morning trying to get it set up, I gave up. I tried connecting the Magic Jack multiple ways, according to the directions and the website kept hanging, never allowing me to set up the account or port my existing number. I was able to make a test phone call, though, and the volume was so weak and accompanied by so much static that I gave up and returned it. The website was of no help in tracking down the problem, either.

This company is a sham - do not do business with them - it looks attractive but then they nickel and dime you for everything. They are the spirit airlines of the VOIP world- I highly recommend Vonage or OOMA instead. Customer service is non-existent and do not pay for anything else because they rip you off! PLease do not get sucked in and do not do business with this company

Magicjack is extremely static. I cannot hear people on the line. I cancelled the service. Magicjack makes it extremely difficult to discontinue. Then, Magicjack charged my credit card anyway! Customer Service is beyond lacking.

So many issues! Including the following: 1. The phone updates to their server time zone. Magic Jack website said it doesn't update with DST! 2). Some calls don't come through! 3). When calling a certain contact in my phone's list, it dials a different number. Do not buy!

    Will not answer incoming calls

My tech tried everything to get it to answer calls but all it receives are voicemail calls. That means when you pick it up it goes directly to voice. I have owned it for more than a year. They tried other firmware updates but to know prevail. I have to pay for a new one. I can make outside calls.
