So much better than the Arris
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It may be literally double the size of the Arris but it produces almost no heat. The Arris is super hot. Also nice that this one has a power button so you don't have to wear fumble around with your power plug in the back of a cabinet. Had it for almost a month now, and it's been rock solid. Fun unadvertised feature: it has 3 extra ethernet ports under a sticker. You can use 2 in a bonded configuration if your router supports it for speeds over 1GB. Otherwise the extra ports are only useful if you have multiple WAN IP addresses from your provider.

Highly Recommended Cable Modem!
||Posted . Owned for 1 year when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I recently purchased the Motorola MB8600 32x8 DOCSIS 3.1 Cable Modem from Best Buy, and it has been a fantastic upgrade to my home internet setup! Right out of the box, the sleek gray design caught my eye. It's compact and blends seamlessly with my home office. Setting it up was a breeze. The instructions were clear, and I had it connected to my ISP within minutes. The 1 GB Ethernet port provides lightning-fast speeds, making this modem perfect for heavy internet users like myself. This modem easily handles everything, whether streaming 4K videos, gaming online, or working from home. What I appreciate most is its future-proof technology. With DOCSIS 3.1, it's ready for higher speeds as ISPs roll out gigabit internet. The 32x8 channel bonding ensures stable and consistent performance, even during peak usage hours. Since upgrading, I’ve noticed faster download speeds and smoother streaming across all my devices. The MB8600 has exceeded my expectations and offers excellent value for its price. I highly recommend this one if you're looking for a reliable and high-performance modem!

Simple Setup and Excellent Performance
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this modem because my isp had upped my Internet speed and my old modem was not up to the task. This modem was well reviewed and it lives up to the accolades. The unit was packaged well and was very easy to install. It booted up exactly as described in the enclosed documentation. I did have to call my isp to activate the modem, but this was a result of some complexity in my account. Normally, I should have been able to active it quickly on line. The modem delivers the full rated speed of my service (and sometimes beyond). It does not heat up, as reported for competing devices. I have been running it for about a month now and its performance and reliability have been flawless. I particularly like the user interface - lighted icons that are easy to understand and change colors from DOCSIS 3.0 to 3.1, so you always know exactly what is happening with your Internet service.

Speed!!
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Recently upgraded my Xfinity Comcast cable internet to 600mbps and was unfortunately not able to get those speeds with my previous Motorola modem. I had purchased the previous one about 7 years ago for about $100 so definitely got my money's worth. The modem was super easy to setup and well worth the price. Can see getting 1gbps at some point in the future, so this is a good choice even if you don't think you need it right now. After plugging it in, it showed that I was connected, but I still needed to activate it. To do so, you can open a browser to any port 80 website (anything that is http). It won't work if you try to access an https site as the page is being redirected to your provider's activation page and the browser sees that as a security breach on encrypted sites. The modem runs relatively cool to the touch with only some slight warmth near the top. I run it in a cabinet, so it was important to me that it didn't run hot. The power brick also runs relatively cool which means it's an appropriate wattage and not being over taxed. Overall it's an outstanding product and you should get this and stop paying $12-$15 dollars a month to rent it from your cable company.

It works, for now
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I just bought this because our arris surfboard was dropping our internet like crazy. So far it’s worked really well and hasn’t dropped my service what so ever. For the price it better work for a good long while. I like that it has the docsis 3.1 since that’s the way most internet is running. Set up and everything was relatively smooth minus my service taking a bit to connect through but now I still like it as for now. Just depends on how it holds up.

The best Docsis 3.1 modem available
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I’ve used all three of the Docsis 3.1 modems easily available (arris sb8200, Netgear cm1000, and this one)... this Motorola mb8600 is the best in my experience. The Netgear is second, and the Arris a very very distant third. Speeds are consistent and it gets the cleanest signal of the bunch (with the Netgear a close second in these regards). The Arris is the one to avoid all around... it runs VERY warm and introduces signal noise back into the line resulting in uncorrectable errors and a much worse signal overall. This Motorola runs cool, quiet (yes quiet - there’s no electronic noise), and gives an actual power button (no need to unplug and re-plug to reset like both the Arris and Netgear). The stats page is easily accessible and never “times out” like the Arris. Time will tell for long term reliability, but the 2-yr warranty is reassuring (1yr longer than the Netgear)... and yes - the arris gives the same 2yr, but the quality of product is so much worse it doesn’t count. Save yourself the time and headache and just trust me... if your cable company has this Motorola approved, buy it and enjoy it! All three of the modems are priced similar (within $20 of each other at any given time)... so forget the Arris altogether, and only consider the Netgear if it goes on some crazy discount sale (again, it’s a good modem... just not as complete as this one and has a worse warranty).

Upgrade from old docsis 2
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have cox cable and upgraded to gigablast so needed to upgrade to docsis 3 modem. Plug and play then called cox and was up and running in minutes. Had for over a month and no issues. I went with this as the smaller version is reported to have more heat issues. No issues with this one.

Great 3.1 Modem
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Upgraded from a 3.0 modem to this. Was running the SB6141 and needed a new modem to take advantage of the 600/20 plan I’m on. Was easy to setup and add to the account with xfinity. Zero issues since put in place. Looked at this and the Arris SB8600 modem before deciding on this one. The reviews for this Motorola along with real world experience make this the better choice over the Arris SB8600. Zero heat issues. Fast speeds, great up time, and lots of details in the config/info page. Highly recommend this modem for those looking for a 3.1 modem or for a modem to replace their ISP modem to help save cost.

Fast and Reliable
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Did a ton of on line research for DOCSIS 3.1 cable modem. It was down to this model or netgear CM1200. I went with this one based on price and simplicity of use, and cost. Easy setup, fast, and reliable.

Easy to setup, great performance
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Easy setup and great performance so far. The unit looks modern and delivers speed as expected. I had to review several modems and came to a conclusion to buy this one. Top modems are Arris SB8200, Netgear CM1000 or 1100, and this one. Again, it was the best choice when comparing all the different features especially the speed as this one can support up to 3.8G. Speed requirements is important as the data continues to drop in cost.

works as expected
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It does what it's supposed to. Have not noticed any irregularities that would be attributable to the modem. Had an old DOCSIS 3.0 modem with fewer channels and occasionally had sketchy connectivity. Have long suspected it is in the lines outside and not in my electronics. When Comcast "informed" me I needed to upgrade to take advantage of higher speeds (which you can't get without paying more - you don't just get it by virtue of upgrading the hardware), I thought I'd take a shot and see if my outdated hardware was the culprit in the quality of my connection. Have not really noticed any significant change in the quality of the connection. Hoped I might see higher upload speed with more available channels, but speeds (both up and down) unchanged. I would recommend for someone buying for the first time, or for someone whose hardware is truly outdated. If your stuff works fine, no need to update unless you plan on purchasing a higher tier service plan. This is a modem only, no Wi-Fi included. You still need a router.

Great 3.1 modem
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Have always used my own modem with Comcast. Had the arris sb8200 for about 1 year and it just gave out. Frankly it always had problems and finally just wouldn’t connect. Thought it was Comcast, but tried an old modem and everything worked. So out I went for a covid pick up of this Motorola. Has been rock solid for 2 months. No restarts needed. Getting every bit of my Comcast speed. Not sure why these things have to cost so much...but when you have to be on Teams calls and kids are zooming, this has delivered and pays for itself in about 1year vs renting.

Another outstanding Motorola product
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this new DOCSIS 3.1 Cable Modem to replace a Cox Panoramic WiFi Gateway that I previously renting monthly. Unfortunately, the modem was not providing the fastest speeds I was paying for. Motorola has been the leading brand of cable modems for over 20 years. I have had previous Motorola cable modems and cable TV converter boxes and never a problem with reliability and dependability. I am currently subscribed to Cox's Internet Preferred package up to 150 Mbps download and I am continuously getting 170-180 Mbps download speeds since purchasing and installing this Motorola modem. All I had to do was call Cox's Internet Support to register the modem and was up and running in little time! The unit is super fast, aesthetically pleasing (no bright lights), runs quietly and has a space-saving footprint which minimizes shelf space and improves cooling for reliable performance. I paired it with with a new Linksys MR8300 Mesh WiFi Router (AC2200) and Cat 8 Ethernet Cable and could not be more pleased and excited with my new, faster home network! Its also great for Netflix, YouTube, Prime Video and other video streaming, high-speed gaming, Facebook, web browsing, emails, and more. This is another outstanding Motorola product!

Great Money Saving Modem
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've had gigabit internet for about 2 years. Recently my service went up about $19 a month and while I like the speed, with no added incentives in the price increase, I decided to lower the speed to 600 Mbps. When I called my provider the salesman suggested I buy my own DOCSIS 3.1 modem to save even more money. A little investigating and doing some math showed I would be saving nearly $40 a month over the increased Gig rate by buying my own Modem and going to the slower speed. Searches and online recommendations led me to the Motorola Cable Modem. Brought it home, hooked it up to my cable, called my provider to provision and was online in about 10 minutes. Attached my router and back in business. Even at 600 Mbps this modem delivers a solid signal to my router that is used by 2 4K Fire TV's, 2 Smart phones and 4 computers. No buffering, just like before. Upload speeds are the same as my old Gig service. I chose the Motorola over an Arris Surfboard based on online comparisons and price. The Motorola is a great Modem and I would recommend it to everyone.

Works - increased my speed
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Cable modems are necessary. Often it’s easier to upgrade separate modem and router than a combo modem and router unit. This is docsis 3.1, which is faster than docsis 3.0. It also allows more internet “channels” ( eight ) . With a lot of people working from home and having to use vpn , any speed increases you can find can really help keep vpn slowdowns to a minimum. This modem was widely recommended as supported by several isp’s. It’s also a brand that has been in this market for a long time. Unit is nice, about the size of a hard copy novel . Lights tell your enough of what it’s doing. Setup was probably the easiest I’ve ever done. With Comcast connect the modem and log into your Comcast account and find “ install new equipment”. Modem was found and was working within three minutes. Updates ( like all modems) are governed by the isp. Not sure if that’s good or bad - it’s just how modems are supported. Being docsis 3.1 Should really make a speed improvement when Wi-Fi 6.0 becomes more widely available and standardized.

Great Plug-n-Play
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First, this is easy to set; and once it's up running, connect it to your wireless router. I got this to replace a signal-dropping Surfboard SB8200. After two months, I've experienced no dropped signals! This thing is virtually, plug it in and forget about it:)

Oh yes it's fast!
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Shipped quickly. However, it arrived two days later than estimated but that's not Best Buy's fault - the pandemic has put a strain on the carriers... Anyway, shipping packaging was good. Unwrapped the modem and connected it to my cable line and my laptop computer then called my ISP (Wave Broadband). I gave them the modem's MAC address and, 10 minutes later, I was back on the Internet at close to 1Gbps! Setup was very easy - other than wiring, almost no setup is needed. I did log in to the modem, though, to make sure all channels were working and to change the username and password. When all was done, I went ahead and disconnected my laptop computer from the modem and connected my router. I'm now enjoying fast Internet and no buffering on my TV shows.

Worked perfectly with Xfinity
||Posted . Owned for 4 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I get over 900 mbps without issue with CTF enabled on my router. It was super simple setup and very smooth just plug it in, connect the coax, call Xfinity and give them the MAC and wait for them to provision it. So far I have had it for 4 months or so and didn't need a single restart. No issues whatsoever.

Got the Xfinity speed I Expected
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this modem so I could get all of the Xfinity internet speed I paid for. It has not disappointed. Installing it was pretty painless: I didn't have to talk to Xfinity folks to do it. Do follow the steps Xfinity and Motorola recommend though. When I did that, nearly all my devices immediately were able to take advantage of the internet connection. The only exception was my Roku, and then only to use the Xfinity access app. Though I went through the process Xfinity suggested (twice), that app still refused to work. However, that wasn't the fault of the modem, and I found that the problem fixed itself after I waited a day. Xfinity moves in wonderful ways... The modem itself works great, stays cool, and gives me some future-proofing in terms future speed capacity. By the way, the Bestbuy speed test is what tells me I'm getting what I paid for, while the Xfinity speed test showed lower numbers. I chalk that up to a slow Xfinity server.

easy setup, works fine
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This modem is highly rated among DOCSIS 3.1 cable modems, and cheaper than Arris and Netgear competitors. Offers upto 4 Ethernet ports to support bonding (useful if you do go to Gigabit+ speeds in the future, few ISPs support those speeds now). Arris and Netgear provide upto 2 ports. Setup was easy, and so far (20 days after purchase) works flawlessly.
