Customers are saying

Customers often highlight the ease of use, reliable performance, and attractive price of the 16 x 4 DOCSIS 3.0 Cable Modem. Many appreciate the straightforward setup and compatibility with various internet service providers. While some users noted that the device can get warm during operation and the indicator lights could be improved, the positive feedback on performance and ease of use outweighs these minor concerns. Overall, the modem is viewed favorably for its functionality and value.

Ideal modem for high speed Internet

The Netgear CM500 is the perfect modem for handling high speed internet from today's competitive ISP's. It's 16 bonding channels and super speeds up to 680 Mbps, puts this cable modem in a class of its own. DOCSIS 3.0 compliant. Slick and lightweight design. Does not overheat like other cable modems. Very affordable price! A wise choice to own and upgrade.

    Excellent DOCSIS 3.0 Modem

Easy to install - it really is a trivial installation 1) Screw on the cable feed, 2) plug in the RJ45 network cable (CAT5e included) to your router or PC, 3) plug in the power cable. Done. Setup - probably depends on your service provider. In my case, TWC/RoadRunner detected the new modem and redirected traffic to their activation site. It did take me two attempts to successfully activate the modem, but that has to be on TWC, not Netgear as the modem's log indicated it received the restart command just fine from TWC. Speed - really fast. I have TWC Extreme and I was able to get peak 118Mbps/23Mbps and average 64Mbps/23Mbps during heavy load hours (down/up). There is nothing not to like about this modem. It's as advertised. Thanks to Netgear for allowing me to test this modem as part of their Friends & Family program.

    Good so far

I received this modem for free as a part of netgear's friends and family program. I've been a bit of a modem elitist only wanting to use Motorola Surfboards for my modem. Originally I was skeptical of a netgear modem, but thus far it's been performing perfectly. I have a 200Mbps connection and consistently receive those speeds. It has a decent web ui as well but you shouldn't really need that. Be aware that this is a 16 bonded channel modem, basically this modem will cap out around 600mbps. My ISP suddenlink just started offering gigabit, this modem will not work for gigabit, but I haven't upgraded to that yet.

This is a real piece of junk. I had never seen a worst modem like this. I bought to catch up with a higher speed but it somehow, someway causing my router to reboot every hour or so. To make things more ironic my router is also Netgear. No more Negear product for me ever.

I plugged it in and called my ISP and gave them my MAC address and i was up and running, It automatically bridged to my Linksys router and gave it the external IP, I has the 16 downstream channels and i was able to get the 200 Mbps download speeds promised by my ISP.

Now I can advantage of the speed I'm paying for

So far so good. My internet speed was just upgrade in my area so I looked into upgrading my equipment to take advantage of the speeds. I refuse to pay my ISP to rent the modem especially if you have phone service through them that is over IP, they will let you use the same modem for free. But I digress. Anyhow, my previous equipment was a Surfboard 6121 and Linksys EA2500. I figured upgrading my router would be sufficient so I when with the Nighthawk C7000. In addition to being a better overall and feature packed router, it increased my speeds by a lot. But the surfboard was still limiting my speeds. So I went with this modem and I gotta tell you, my speed went through the roof with this. Doing a speedtest before and after the modem showed a drastic difference. Surfboard + Nighthawk was giving me consistently 120 mbps all around my house. Netgear modem + Nighthawk is giving me 330 mbps. Modem is lightweight, lights aren't too bright on the front panel and it does what it says. I'll see to the longevity and update my review accordingly, but for now, works perfect.

    Great Modem

I wanted to save some money by not having to rent a modem from my provider. This was an approved modem from my cable provider and I have always had good luck with Netgear products. It was a breeze to set up with just one call to my provider to activate it and I was up and running with the same thru-put as I had been getting (237/23MB). And the good news is I will break even in costs in under 1 year of ownership.
