Customers are saying

Customers often highlight the ease of use, reliable performance, and attractive price of the 16 x 4 DOCSIS 3.0 Cable Modem. Many appreciate the straightforward setup and compatibility with various internet service providers. While some users noted that the device can get warm during operation and the indicator lights could be improved, the positive feedback on performance and ease of use outweighs these minor concerns. Overall, the modem is viewed favorably for its functionality and value.

    Great way to save money!

Opening your own cable modem is a great way to save money by avoiding the monthly rental fees charged by cable companies. After a quick call to my cable provider, Comcast, the modern was paired to their system and has worked flawlessly ever since. My only concern is that the modern seems to run quite warm. Be sure to keep some space clear around the modern to allow proper air flow through its ventilation holes.

When I did get it, it didn't work. All lights lit red but one and it blinked on and off. It kept rebooting.

Wouldn't connect to my computer. I was on the phone with Cox over an hour. They can see it at their end. So I returned it.

Great Replacement Cable Modem for Xfinity Internet

I received this Netgear CM500 for free to test it out. I must say this is an excellent cable modem that works flawlessly with my Xfinity Comcast high speed internet. By far the easiest setup ever! Just plug the power cord, coax cable, ethernet cable to your computer and wait 5 to 10 minutes for all the light to turn green (yes, even your cable internet connection will turn green if you already have an active account). As a final step, activate this device by going to Xfinity Comcast activation center via online - URL is on the Quick Start guide. The whole setup process took 15 minutes for me. As for quality, it's been up and running for a week now without any issues. No more modem rentals for me!

Saves Money on My Comcast Bill!

This modem works great! It was very easy to setup and is saving me about $10 a month on my Comcast bill, as I was renting a modem from them. I would definitely recommend this product. I've been very happy with this modem. *I received the CM500 free from NETGEAR as part of a review and test program.

    Great modem!

I upgraded my comcast modem that I had rented to this unit. Before I made the exchange I ran speed test to have a baseline for comparison. On my comcast Blast! Connection, which is rated at 150Mbs, I could only manage a speed of 108Mbs. After I got the Netgear modem up and running, the same test resulted in 182Mbs!!! The modem is far superior to the 4 channel XFinity modem. The Netgear modem, was actually able to register 16 channels on the XFinity network, and it makes a huge difference in performance. Only thing to notice is that the included instructions for activation on the network for Comcast are not correct. It points to a website that doesn't exist. Just go the www.comcast.com instead, and you can register there, without the need for a service call..

    Quick easy and fast modem

This modem is everything I need in a modem. It was pretty much plug and play. Just connect everything up, and my Time Warner modem activation screen came up. I typed in some account information and clicked activate. It didn't work at first, said it would take 5 minutes, but after 10 minutes nothing had happened. So I unplugged my modem and restarted it, and it worked right away. I maxed out speeds for my internet package on my docsis 2.0 at about 15-16mbps. But I was able to get 17mbps download speed with this. However I did not notice an increase in upload speed, but it did not go down either. I'd say this product does everything I need, and will allow me to utilize faster speeds in the future. If you've got a really fast internet plan, then I'd definitely recommend this modem over something like the CM400 since this can handle slightly more. ANd I did receive this modem as part of Netgear's friends & family program for testing and eval.

I bought this to take the plate of the Xfinity/Comcast modem I was paying 10.00 a month to rent, the self activation process was simple and able to get it setup in minutes. Very nice and small unit as well. I'd highly recommend it!

    Set Up Not So Easy

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I bought this NETGEAR modem so I could ditch the monthly modem fees from Comcast. Switching out was not easy at all. I spent the better part of two hours on the phone with Comcast trying to get this thing activated and testing the connection. Turns out, I had to call NETGEAR support because the modem was not communicating with the NETGEAR router that I was using just fine for about a year before the modem switch. NETGEAR would not offer support unless I paid for one of their support/protection plans. That set me back $139 because the issue was not the modem, but the NETGEAR router. Yeah. Um-hmm. The support agent reconfigured the device so that I can use it with my new modem. Something I would not have been able to do on my own. The product is working fine so far, but what I thought was supposed to be a liberating experience was far from it. This product works excellent with Comcast Blast. No more pixelated streams or lags while gaming.

Love it! I pay my Cable Company 200 Mbps second download and with this modem I am getting 220 Mbps download regularly. Can't beat that! Very easy to setup as well.

I'm using this modem for Comcast's Extreme 250 service. It works very well, doesn't crash or require reboots. Comcast's automated registration did not work. I had to call Comcast to activate it.

    Good Modem

Decent performance at a decent price. Straightforward installation, essentially plug and play. Heads-up for Xfinity customers... Expect to download their app, then make several calls to their "customer service" only to be told the reason you can't connect is on YOUR end (which is completely false). Persevere - and expect to use every ounce of patience you can possibly muster with multiple Xfinity representatives. Between the calls and Xfinity app, you'll eventually succeed. Xfinity's incompetency is NOT the modem's (or Netgear's) fault; it's a good modem. I'd definitely buy again (just wish I had another ISP option besides Xfinity).

Got this from the Netgear Friends & Family program. I had problem streaming movies with my existing modem. Then Netgear Friends & Family program sent me this to replace it. This is perfect for me as a novice on this tech thing. Setup is easy enough. Just plug in the cables and power, then it works. Now I can steam my movies (HBO) much faster than I thought. I love it especially it is free from Netgear. Sure I will recommend to my friend s and familes.

good replacement if u have xfinity...when it works

Given all the positive reviews, I suppose im probably an exception. My xfinity/comcast modem died so I figure I'd just get this as a replacement. Set up is easy - basically plug in everything as normal and give you isp a call to configure it remotely and I liked it because despite being a simple modem with no bells or whistles, it was 1/4 the size of the one from my cable company. Took the rep an extra try or 2 but it was set within 15 minutes. It worked great for about 1 1/2 weeks and then the connection went out and the "download" light is red and as I pick it up to power cycle, it was very hot to the touch. I let it cool off and about 8 hours later the same thing occured (it was downloading/uploading a fair amount but this was the first time I had issue with a netgear product and the first in general with overheating. It's happened once a day for the next 4 days since, and then twice today. If I exchange for another of the same modem then I'll update my score
