Customers are saying

Customers often highlight the ease of use, reliable performance, and attractive price of the 16 x 4 DOCSIS 3.0 Cable Modem. Many appreciate the straightforward setup and compatibility with various internet service providers. While some users noted that the device can get warm during operation and the indicator lights could be improved, the positive feedback on performance and ease of use outweighs these minor concerns. Overall, the modem is viewed favorably for its functionality and value.

Saved Me On My Cable Bill

I got this so that I did not have to rent the one from the cable company. Works great. Maybe better than the one they set me up with.

    Got a defective one

Fast when it works, which is rare. Constantly disconnects, lights turn red, got really hot and rebooted itself. Tried swapping out my router, cables, splitters. Still wasn't working right. Plugged my old modem back in, works fine with the same setup. Albeit slower (which is why I "upgraded"). So far Netgear's RMA process is more painful than it should be. Wish I'd gotten something else.

Did not want to pay the $10/month from provider

I decided not to rent the modem from the service provider (time warner). They were charging me $10/month. I was always going to need a modem and basically, would have paid this off after a year or so. Besides the modem they give you sucked anyways.

    Intermittent Outage

    Posted .

I previously owned a motorola modem (upto 150MBPS)and when I upgraded to blast pro with Comcast for 200MBPS, had to upgrade modem. I wanted to go with one brand - Netgear, as my router was netgear also. But after a week's usage, noticed the speed is good- gives me 200 MBPS on ethernet and 5GHZ wireless when near the wifi router, but browsing and video suffers. I seems like there is some validation with the modem every time I surf, so it take a few seconds before the page/video loads. The intermittent outage was really annoying. Went back to my old motorola with 150MBPS. More reliable, although I am not using the full potential of the comcast speed. Might try the new motorola's aaris.

Bad Ethernet cable—wasted many hours on this

Normally I have great luck with netgear equipment, but this time I am not happy. Product itself seems to be working okay, after I spent a lot of time on the phone with Cox and rebooting the dang modem. I finally thought to try the old ethernet cable before returning the modem to Best Buy.

The Modem works great. Should have bought one years ago. Has saved me so much money over the long run. Way worth purchasing your own modem over renting one and paying a monthly fee to your ISP

Signing up for a cable internet connection for the first time I researched to find that I can save money by purchasing my own cable modem rather than paying a monthly fee to my provider to supply one for me.

    Overheats

From day one this thing ran very hot. I made sure to put it away from other electronics and ensure that it had proper airflow. However, without a fan blowing directly on i,t it would overheat and shut down every day. There were also many errror in the log file. Unfortunately, by the time I had had enough it was past the return period. I contacted the manufacturer and was able to get a warranty replacement after many days of calling tech support and getting the run around. They also wanted me to pay shipping on the return item. I decided to call it quits and just went with a different brand that is much more reliable. I wish I would have read the other reviews more carefully.
