Great Modem
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So far, so good. I bought this DSL Modem to replace my Siemens Speedstream 4100 modem from AT&T. My old modem started crashing many times a day and it was beginning to be very frustrating!! I kept calling AT&T internet tech support and they would tell me there was nothing wrong with my modem it was a circuit, so I hesitated for about 6 weeks before finally buying this Netgear modem. When I bought it, I thought I would just buy it and see what happens, I was getting desperate at this point. I had even had a tech out to my house 3 times trying to fix my internet. Well I'm happy to report that since hooking up this new Netgear modem I have no more internet connection problems!!! So obviously it was my old Speedstream modem. I am so happy!!! Oh, and my internet is much faster too!! Thanks Netgear!!

Easy Installation
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Modem installation was so simple that I did not need to watch youtube on how to stall - (1) a hole to plug in power adapter, (2) a hole to plug in phone cable & (3) a hole to plug in ethernet cable. Then typed in my ISP (AT&T) login id & password (this is my AT&T network password & not my email password). And that was it! However, for an hour after installation, my DSL internet connection kept dropping. Could access google.com, yahoo.com etc successfully for few minutes. Then lost internet connection. When I re-typed google.com etc multiple times (including closing & opening new browser sessions), kept getting DNS address not found & no internet connection for long time. Then internet got connected for short time & then got dropped for long time. Anyway, after an hr of trying, I phoned Netgear Support. Netgear Support did the standard stuff (told me to reset modem, power down, & power back on etc) for 30 minutes. Same problem - internet connected for short time & lost connection for long time. Netgear told me to contact my ISP (AT&T). Because my ISP Support was closed (5 am to 9 pm Pacific time), so after Netgear Support hanged up, I continued to mess with the modem for another hr. Then for unknown reason internet stopped losing connection. So after 2 1/2 hrs of frustration with internet connection up & down, everything works fine for 2 whole days so far (after installation). I can think of 2 possibilities with my modem problem. (1) Maybe, this particular modem happened to need some "burnt-in" time, like 2 1/2 hrs OR (2) AT&T happened to have internet problem on their side when I hooked up the modem. I do want to add that I have AT&T internet for probably 20 yrs & their up-time is probably 99%. If you have AT&T U-verse (or many other cable providers), dont buy this modem. The back side of box packaging tells you that it will NOT work. I have AT&T DSL which this modem supports.

Reliable modem
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Now that the modem is up and running, it's great! Took over a month to figure out why I was being disconnected from the internet 5-20x's/day. I use VPN working from home to access multiple virtual systems and intranet within my company throughout the day. The Netgear modem's 'DNS Redirect' needed to be changed to 'Disabled.' The easy install wizard (using recommended settings), set it to Enabled. Geek Squad couldn't figure it out. Geeks (India based) at work who manage our VPN and firewalls couldn't figure it out. Tech support person I got on the 3rd call to my ISP provider figured it out because he had just done the same thing for a family member recently, who also works from home using VPN. The hardware is working great now.

So far so good
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I picked this up yesterday when my 8 month old DLink started acting up and had to reboot it 3 times before I could get back to work. This set-up was very easy and quick and appears to have improved speed. Well worth the 54 bucks with tax. The DLink went in the trash!!! Thanks Netgear. I'm a first time buyer.

Good replacement for ActionTec GT701
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this modem when my 10-year-old ActionTec GT701 stopped working. I believe the old modem wouldn't work because the phone company upgraded their DSL technology, so I bought a new modem from a company that I have had good performance from with their wireless modems. Installation was straightforward and non-eventful and the modem has been working flawlessly since I installed it 6 months ago.

works fine
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.bought this for my parents to upgrade them from the one that they've had for probably 15 years. in that regard, it's like night and day. only used for some fairly light web-surfing and email though, so it hasn't really been put through its paces.

Very happy with this modem
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. As promised this modem was compatible with AT&T DSL. It took less than 30 minutes from start to finish to install... even for me! My connection is now fast and accurate.

Does what it claims, but not much more
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this DSL modem/firewall to replace my second 2Wire modem to fail (each one lasted about a year). So far it has been performing flawlessly. I subscribe to AT&T business class DSL and have been assigned 5 static IP addresses. With the old 2Wire modem, the gateway took one of the 6 IP addresses (29 bit subnet) and I had the other 5 to assign to any devices I wanted accessed from the outside (web server, vpn gateway, etc). With the Broadband ADSL2+ Modem, I cannot use my range of static IP addresses. All I can do is identify one internal device as the DMZ device and use the gateway IP address to get to my server. A bit disappointing because I expected more, but again it never claimed to do more than that. I'd recommend this if you're looking to replace an old flaky/failed DSL modem (if your requirements are simple), but if your needs are a bit more complex, such as supporting multiple public IP addresses, you should look elsewhere.

Great modem in a pinch
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The wireless modem/router provided by my ISP bit the dust, and the estimated arrival of a replacement was nearly a week. Couldn't wait that long, so checked Best Buy for a relatively inexpensive solution to use in the meantime. No one at the store could verify whether or not it would work with my ISP (Windstream), but decided to give it a try. Plugged it in, ran the included software, and was back on the air within about 5 minutes. There were instructions included about how to set it up via a browser, but that was not needed (though it was nice to know that the url used was different from my old modem). Since I normally use wireless and direct connect for a couple of other computers, this is just a temporary solution for me. If you have only one computer and don't need wireless, this is a good little modem. I intend to keep this one around in case of "emergencies". Note that I have only had it on line for about 16 hours, so take any claims I make about its reliability with a grain of salt.

Great Modem Great Price
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My old mortorola modem was resetting constantly. I bought this and changed the old worn out filter with the one that came with this and it works perfectly. Plus, there is a turn on/off button for you to power off when you're done using it. Well of course you can just pull off the plug for other routers but this is more convenient. The only con is that you have to call your ISP for their access code (which was annoying). I like how it can stand up on with its mount. Other than that worth it for 50$.

Great
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After fighting with AT&T that my modem that they supplied, went bad, (which they would not replace) i bought this one. It was easy to set up and my Internet & Wi-Fi was back up and running in about 10 minutes! The installation CD worked perfect for me, no more leasing from AT&T! Very happy with my purchase!

It works as advertised.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this because my former Qwest DSL modem would quick working at times, especially when a Mac and/or Chrome was being used. With this new modem, we haven't had to restart it even once. We are happy.

Issues if you use it with a wireless router
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.See "Many caveats" by evandro if you want to use it as a simple modem connected to a wireless router. Set up first without router. Then change mode: Change the Device Mode The modem includes a built-in router. If you want to configure the modem as a “pure bridge” in Modem mode, first set up the Internet connection and then change the Device Mode setting to Modem mode. In Modem mode, the device acts as a “pure bridge” or DSL modem. When the device is in Modem mode, features that are not available are grayed out. 1. Select Advanced > Device Mode. The following screen displays: By default, the modem is in Router mode. 2. Select the device mode that you want from the drop-down list. 3. Click Apply so that your changes take effect. Then reboot with router installed. The only odd thing is that the internet works but the internet light on the modem does no glow. Oh well.

Simple and Just Right
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I needed a modem without a router since I use an Apple Time Capsule for that. This was the only modem only for DSL I found. It was simple to install, works like a charm, has a small footprint and has caused no problems. What else can you ask for in a modem!
