Okay so here is the deal. This is a great modem all together. To be honest though it is my second one. The first one starting going out one port at a time until no ports would work. I’ve only had the second one about 3 weeks so we shall see. I had the great Best Buy extended warranty so all I needed to do was Return it (no questions asked in my case) and order a new one.

Using one of these is much better than using the Spectrum-provided modem, which I found would go down and require rebooting on a regular basis. After swapping in this modem, no more such issues. Unfortunately, the control panel is straight out of 2005 and almost impossible to access unless you are a LAN nerd. It's also hell of expensive.

The "NETGEAR - Nighthawk 32 x 8 DOCSIS 3.1 Cable Modem" works but not for what I needed. It advertises 4 ethernet ports for use, but in reality you can only use 1 port for an IP address. You have to have another device to have that other device generate IP addresses for you. So I had 4 items I wanted to connect and couldn't. That is why I have given it 3 stars for not properly advertising what the 4 ethernet ports are capable of doing. Right not (6/23/2023) Cox internet has a deal if you go into the store they give you a all in one Gateway as well as a free camera AND they lowered my bill for the next two years! Couldn't pass it up so I took this one back.

So I have mixed emotions on this modem so I'll go off of real world performance. My ISP is Sparklight and I pay for 1 gig of internet. I originally had the Arris Docsis 3.0 and wanted to upgrade to 3.1 to better handle my new speeds. I never had any drop issues with my Arris and I was getting in the mid 900s wired. Enter the Netgear annnnnnd there's no change. I added the Orbi mesh system and I'm getting the same speeds as I did with my Arris. The only difference, I've had 3 drops in 2 weeks when I never had a drop with my Arris in 2 years. I've only had to reboot everything once to get back on track but I guess time will tell how effective this system is. I REALLY want to love it but right now, it's nothing to write home about. It's hard to say "go out and buy it" at the time of this writing. So I'll leave that up to you and what ISP you have. I do average upper 900s (wired) and the upper 400s on my iPhone 11 Pro (wireless) so it's obviously not bad but the drop issues is what bugs me.

Once I got the unit in the house it was simple to swap connections and easy to just plug and play to my current router following directions, As I had an older model 2.0 you could immediately see the processes operating at the faster rate both information and entertainment.

This moden is a lot cheaper over time versus renting one plus getting to speeds of 940mbs direct connected and an average of 600mbs through my Asus gaming router.

Easy setup once you realize that the 4 ethernet ports on the back are not independent, only one can be used to connect to the router. The rest are "expansion ports". The good part is that you need only one to connevt the router. The later does all the work. When netgesr add 4 ethernet ports, I will upgrade to 5 stars. It works fine with Xfinity.
