    Great Modem for the price and better than a ISP.

    It was time to upgrade my modem and NETGREAR has always been my choice. I prefer to own my own modem rather than paying a ISP price. This is the latest modem out via NETGEAR and will not change for a while.

    Had to return this modem as it did not have a outlet for a land line phone. My mistake in purchasing it. Other than that it seemed.

    Died in 7.5 months. STAY AWAY.

    Got this modem in March 2023, and it worked great until it decided to quit working in mid-October the same year. It died only in 7.5 months. Drop signals. Slow connection. I need to reboot the modem, router & computer every hour or so to see if it helps. and of course, it didn't help. I would have picked a different modem if I knew how much time it took me to deal with this problem. After failing to resolve the problem on my end, I reached out to my ISP (Comcast) and they sent a technician to check on everything and confirmed there's no connection issue. They also helped me factory reset the Netgear modem to see if that takes care of the issue. Unfortunately, it didn't resolve the issue. Comcast then determined it was the Netgear modem problem, and replaced it with an Xfinity modem. Problem solved, and no internet issue within the 1 month period I had with the Xfinity modem. Since it's only 7.5 months since I got the device, and Netgear said they offer 1 year hardware warranty, I decided to give the Netgear modem another try. I reactivated the Netgear modem with Comcast, and the modem was fully provisioned. It worked for a few hours & it failed to do its job again. After confirming it was the Netgear modem issue, I called Netgear, and the nightmare began. NETGEAR warranty/ support team made it as hard as it possibly can be so you will be just so frustrated to stay on the phone with them & hopefully you will just keep the defective item. The first Netgear specialist I talked to didn't perform any checking at all & directed me to contact my router manufacturer (eero) claiming this was not Netgear's issue. After jumping through hoops, calling eero & comcast to confirm there's no issue on their end, I called Netgear again to resolve this issue. After multiple phone calls & hours (UNBELIEVABLE & UNACCEPTABLE) on the phone with Netgear, they finally issued an RMA to replace the defective modem. You will need to pay to return the defective item on your own, or you pay Netgear $17-$30 for them to send you a replacement with the return label. There is no option to return the product for a refund. The replacement modem has been doing fine now for a week. I am not confident how long it will last. Netgear will NOT extend another 1-year warranty on the replacement device. That means I will be stuck with an expensive junk if it fails in the next 3 months. I am so sorry for this long review. But if you read my story, stay away from Netgear. Save yourself some headaches.

    Xtream might have had a set up bug, but was fixed after a call. Unsure of if it was the modem or providers issue(believe it was providers)

    Works fine. Nice and stable, able to stand on it's own (unlike the prior model we had (I think it was the CM900 modem which could not stand up without leaning against something)

    It was easy to activate with my cable provider (Spectrum). Not completely done setting the ethernet connections up yet but hoping that connecting the ethernet to a couple more devices will improve my wi-fi connection speeds.

    Terrible performance with link aggregation

    If you plan to use the Ethernet link aggregation feature of this modem, you need to choose a different product. With link aggregation the modem will support 1 Gigabit download speeds for two to four hours. After that time period download and upload speeds both degrade to about 25 Megabit! Gigabit performance can be restored by a power cycle or disconnecting and connecting the Ethernet connections. The Netgear forum has reports of this problem from multiple users with more than one cable company. The modem works fine if you do not enable link aggregation.

    Device did not work well with Suddenlink internet. Max speed was 20Mbs. I suspect sudden link limits speeds on equipment they do not own.. Otherwise I think this would have been amazing with any other service. I had to return it

    Always get Netgear modem, don't buy modem-router 2in1. They have a really good heat dissipation. The connection is very stable too. And I like my device have a on/off button. Most of modem or router don't have that.

    Modem worked well for a few months, then started dropping packets. I "would" give Netgear the benefit of the doubt, but their Warranty/RMA return process is GARBAGE. Your limited 90 day support contract can expire and the help desk will hassle you about getting a support contract before fulfilling their built-in 1-year RMA process - Quite unethical. I've followed up on the ticket several times, and called and followed up on the ticket that way. As I am IT, I have already spent some time troubleshooting the problem. At some undetermined period of time after last reboot (AT LEAST once a day), it will start dropping packets, between 10-25%. Rebooting the router does not resolve, rebooting the computer does not resolve. The connection is wired and has been cable certified. The old modems did not drop packets randomly, so I am not inclined to believe that the problem is the lines. The fact that NetGear refused to review these details due to lack of support contract means they are shulking their RMA duties. Therefore, I proclaim this unit is infact a lemon, but due to Netgears HORRIBLE support policies (They still won't send me a RMA. Their tech support appears to be outsourced, likely to India, as well.) Time to see if Best Buy will give me my money back even though it has been a few months. Might not be a garbage product across the board, but garbage support/RMA return procedure means you should be considering other options where possible.

    Bought to replace an older Charter modem. My expectation was an improvement in stability and speed. Neither occurred. The old modem provided by Charter was working just fine--pumping out 30 Mbps and experiencing an occasional hiccup (or so I assumed). Only now do I realize that any service issues I had were not modem related. An expensive lesson with no gain. Based on my experience, I would not recommend modem replacement--unless you are renting the equipment and expect to recover the cost of your investment in some reasonable period. The nonsense of reduced latency, increased speeds, etc. is just that--nonsense.

    Netgear = Unhappy Experience

    I have had this modem for a couple of weeks. You would think that a Netgear modem paired with a Netgear router (R8500) would be a seamless experience. Hah! I had difficulty getting the router to communicate with the modem. The modem had to be rebooted before the router would recognize it. After a power outage, the modem had to be rebooted to get the router to connect. Wouldn't be much of problem, but I have to get a ladder out to access the equipment on top of cabinets. What a pain this is. Never had this issue with the old modem. Maybe I should have stuck with Linksys after all.

    Opened-box broken equipment still sold to customer

    I was looking for this modem and thought I was lucky as there was one finally available from Bestbuy. I drove almost an hour to pick it in store. It was opened box when I got it. I wanted to try it since it is difficult to find. I tested using an existing line and the modem seemed working initially. It took some time to schedule and reschedule the cable company to route the line to my home. Once I hooked it up at the new line, it kept dropping off and needs reboot from to time to time. The ethernet ports seems also not working when I tried to use two ethernet ports for Wifi. I lost my patience eventually and decided to returned it, but was told I missed the 15 days window allowed by Bestbuy return policy. I bought a different model from Costco and it seems working fine. And the return policy is 90 days at Costco. No I am stuck with the broken equipment which is too expensive to throw away.
