Huge Disappointment
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My son’s pure joy and excitement on Christmas turned to complete disappointment. After having issues installing the software on his laptop, when then realized NONE of our laptops had the display port required to use the Rift S. We will be returning to Best Buy today. The Qculus Quest 2 is completely out of stock. So he may have to wait until February to get his “Christmas” gift.

Lacks HDMI support
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Every test that one can take to see if their computer can run this thing forget one major thing. They don't check for a display port and oculus doesn't seem to want to add HDMI converter support to their system. I can not make this clear enough, CHECK THAT YOU HAVE A DP OF SOME KIND BEFORE YOU BUY!!!

So many issues....
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Absolute piece of garbage so many issues.... Sensors can't track headset. Sensors can't track controllers. The Oculus Software barely works, makes your computer unusable. Do not buy this!! It lasted me 6 months before every issue you can think of happened.

Requires DisplayPort Instead of HDMI
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you plan on using a gaming laptop, read this review! I have several friends with the Rift V1, so I’m familiar with the platform. I downloaded the Oculus compatibility checker and got green checkmarks across the board on a less than year old Dell Inspiron 15 7567 gaming laptop with Nvidia GPU. I found a Rift S in stock and decided to take the plunge. During installation, I discovered that Oculus Rift S has switched to a DisplayPort connector. Not many gaming laptops have that option, except maybe brand new. So I have a $400 boat anchor. There are no HDMI to DP adapters that work. I’m giving Oculus Rift S 1-star for not being clear about the DisplayPort requirement on the product webpage and even the box. Those upgrading from V1 be aware! And also for their compatibility checker not catching this, even though HDMI and not DP are listed in WDM. That’s sloppy programming. If you are using a gaming laptop, it must have a DisplayPort connector, or the Rift S will not work. Hope this saves someone else the frustration.

Too many issues
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have now owned two of these and both have had a ton of issues. The first one I used for a few hours and then just completely died on me, neither of my computers could detect either the DP or USB. I spent 3 hours trying literally everything, I can guarantee you this is not user error and it was broken. I then got a second one because overall I liked the product when it was working. This one also worked for a couple hours just fine (besides sub-par tracking). The next day I tried to set it up and it detected the headset but said that the sensors couldn't track the headset. Umm, the trackers ARE the headset??? I again tried a ton of things to fix this and nothing is working. Oculus released a product that was not ready to be released and completely screwed their customers. This isn't just me, hundreds of people are also having these same issues. The subreddit r/oculus is being flooded with posts about peoples Rifts being broken. Don't buy this, at least not for a while until they hopefully get all of this fixed.

Broke after 5 mo. 2 mo to replace. Broken again.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought a Rift S in Dec of 2019. By May it was no longer working properly. No damage that we inflicted on it, it just started randomly disconnecting. Then it got worse and worse till you could not use it for more than a minute before it would disconnect and crash. I spent many weeks in a support email thread trying everything under the sun. Took them 6 weeks to then replace the unit. That replacement worked less than 5 months before it started happening again right as the original warranty ran out. I contacted them and they said they would still help but now it's been 6 weeks of email support no-help and they refuse to just admit it's broken and help. The emails are all responded to by different people and having me check the same stupid stuff. Not going to ever buy an Oculus product again. Be wary.

DO NOT BUY, this headset is NOT ready and buggy
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This headset is completely not ready and Facebook dropped the ball in a big way. Issues you'll run into: - Black screens causing you to reset the oculus server sevice to get video - Extremely terrible sound they're trying to fix via beta firmware - A broken update process that can completely fail and uninstall itself while hanging there - A slammed support staff completely unequipped to take your request or provide meaningful fixes You're basically a beta tester of a broken product. Stay far away until fixed. There is no reason for such poor quality control and this headset would be a decent (3/5) buy if it wasn't for crazy instability that will drive you nuts trying to make it work.

Cool VR headset, garbage support
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Here we are in 2022 and the cable (which still looks fine) is having connection issues. I started looking to (possibly) replace the CABLE, and have found that the CABLE is currently retailing (if you can find one) for around $150. FOR THE CABLE This is RIDICULOUS, of course it's not some generic USB or HDMI cable... it's a "specialty" cable that splits from the headset to a USB and DisplayPort at the PC. Now I have to decide if it's worth throwing that kind of money at a platform that Oculus/Facebook totally gave up on supporting after only a couple of years.

Poor software and cheaply made
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I pre-ordered the Oculus Rift S because I thought it would be a cheap step into the VR world. When I first got it it worked okay, but after a few hours of playing with it, it stopped tracking the controllers completely, having to reboot every 5 minutes. The battery covers will slide off if you grip them too much. The controllers are small, so if you have big hands like me, it's not recommended to get them. Overall, it seems like a good concept, but it was designed and built by Lenovo, who already builds crap stuff anyway. I returned the headset the same day I got it and ordered the HTC Vive. Save your money and invest in the HTC Vive/Vive Pro or the new Steam Index that's coming out soon.

Unusable without ACTIVE Facebook account
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I received this as a Christmas gift but had to return it because Facebook effectively bricked this device. YOU MUST HAVE A FACEBOOK ACCOUNT TO USE THIS DEVICE. I wasn't able to create one either because fb decided I wasn't a real person (I don't want to upload pictures or connect with anyone on fb - I just wanted to play some video games with an empty account). You can appeal this (by sending them a picture ID to prove you're not a bot, then wait a few weeks with fingers crossed - and hope it doesn't happen again) or you can just avoid dealing with Facebook entirely and buy something else instead.

DO NOT BUY!!!!!!!!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Absolute Garbage. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY! This Product works maybe 10 times and then breaks. You get stuck on 3 dots and can't even load the menu. I've done EVERY troubleshooting option there is and absolutely NOTHING! The sensors apparently don't work and the USB connection is flawed! On Top of all this the Oculus Customer Support is full of idiots who can't do their jobs. I've literally done everything and these idiots basically just told me what Google told me to do. Garbage Equipment and Garbage Service. It was a huge waste of money and I can't even return it

not worth it
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.after a couple of months of being used, there are a lot of problems the headset would always say there isn't enough light in the room even though there was plenty. Another issue is stick drift after about 4 months. overall I can't say I would recommend you are much better off spending your money on another headset don't bother wasting time with oculus.

The Worst Buy Ever
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. You can't zero star. I was given this product as a Chirstmas gift and day one out of the box it did not work. I have tried for months with their tech support and nothing works. Their tech support even told me that their program detected fake and non-manufacturer parts within it. This product is the lowest of the low. Litteraly, buy it at your own risk.

Terrible! Paperweight!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Goes back tomorrow! Will not function out of the box! Certainly isn’t the computer, mine is brand new and could run all of NASA. Just a cheap piece of trash, won’t connect at all. 4 hours attempting to set up, and never even got it on my head!!! DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY! Obviously the HTC Vive is worth the extra $100.

$400+ for a blank screen
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Absolutely will not work. Won't recognize my USB 3.0 ports. I have tried EVERY SINGLE SUGGESTION I could find online about this issue and NOTHING worked. Restarted and reinstalled everything MULTIPLE TIMES, updated drivers and all that crap. NOTHING. Huge freaking scam.

A step backwards
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The poor sound quality completely removes the immersive experience. Oculus attempt to seal out all light also seals in moisture which steams up the lens with active game like Beat Saber. I guess I will be setting my old Oculus rift back up again.

At least the uninstall button works
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've never had a company with such a backwards product. You can't update the firmware if the DP cable doesn't connect, but yet to get the software to read that it's connected you have to update the firmware.....

junk
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.a piece of stupid junk. I've never been so frustrated and disappointed by any I bought from BestBuy. But this one. Legendarily stupid and junk. Never worked. No idea what caused what issue - whatever it is, it's a waste of money.
