    Excellent Radio with wireless carplay!

I bought this radio to replace the stock radio in my 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Two key features I was looking for: wireless Carplay and HD radio, both of which this unit has (This is Pioneer’s 2020 model). After installing it and using it for a few days I am extremely happy with this purchase. Couple of things to note about this unit. It has a narrow depth meaning its only about 3.5 inches deep leaving plenty of room for wiring and the iDatalink Maestro I needed for full functionality. It has a USB C port which delivers 3 amps of power. Many other radios only deliver 1.5 amps and have 2 regular USB A ports, 1 for Android Auto, 1 for Apple Carplay. This has 1 USB C port which can be used for both. You can also use a flash drive as well. Included in the box is a USB C to A converter. Boot time is pretty quick and on par with the stock radio. Using the iDatalink Maestro I have full integration with the backup camera, steering wheel controls and vehicle information right on the screen. One thing to note I tried to use the GPS antenna onboard with the car by buying an adapter however this unit did not like it and ended up using the GPS antenna that came with it. You will also need to install the included microphone as well. The touchscreen is very responsive and the resolution looks good for the size of the screen. If you are on the fence Pioneer has been making radios for many many years and this unit won’t disappoint.

Excellent unit. Installed in C5 Corvette. Very quick response touch screen, Apple play, Bluetooth, phone all work well. Sounds good, lots of optional settings, Purchased additional non pioneer backup camera it works well. Only down side is unit reboots even with supported RAP feature in the Amp interface., anytime there is a change in key location, apparently a known issue for C5's.

Easy replacement with Idata-link and have factory type function of steering wheel buttons. This does require additional purchase of Maestro Rr module that is another $150, but worth it for the ease of installation and factory type results. Apple car play, review camera, DVD player, HD radio station, and some car gauges is a major upgrade. Quality of sound improvement in bass is great without any speaker replacement.

This went into a 2002 Miata with a Bose sound system that was great but basically started failing. Lots of research, will use it a lot with my iPhone so I wanted good integration with the phone. First, the system is very good. Sound is at least as good as the Bose system I had, and the big screen works well. iPhone integration is really nice, with various options for displaying the podcast app, audible app, Waze, Spotify, etc. Car play works very well. Very nice touch while driving and using Waze while listening to an audio book that it showed two volume controls, so I could easily independently control the volume of the audio book and the volume of Waze announcements. But I really have to add that the installer (and it came with free installation) in the Trussville, AL store did a superb job. He exceeded my expectations. Installed a small mic that works with the system in a place on the steering column that works well and is almost invisible. He made sure the USB cable that comes from the back of the unit was threaded and placed in a manner where it is very easy to get to but also very easy to hide when not being used. He walked me through a few things I would not have figured out on my own after the installation. Great job.

You get everything: Android Auto, CarPlay, HD Radio, satellite tadio, Blutooth music, and CD -- every mobike dource you can think of. And it made my OEM speakers sound better with deeper bass and more definition. Just needs a bigger on/off button.

I bought this radio for my 2005 Hyundai Tucson to replace the factory cd/cassette player. GREAT improvement in every way over the original radio. I installed it myself which took about 10-12 hours of easy, tedious, time consuming steps but I enjoyed it. The free Best Buy install would be a more basic install without the backup camera or a few of the upgrades I added like plugs mounted on the dash for USB and Aux inputs. Most people should have it done by a pro as it was very involved. Everything works as it is supposed to, I just have not figured out everything it can do. I need to watch some online videos or read more instructions, but I have used all the features I wanted to try and I am really pleased. The bluetooth connects as soon as I start the car and the last song I was playing starts itself, which is really nice. If I want full carplay features I have to plug in the lightning cable and it takes a few more seconds to connect. The touch screen works great even with gloves on. My car doesn't have steering wheel volume controls and the volume buttons on the radio are pretty small, but that is my only con far outweighed by all the pros. The phone call quality is very good as far as I have been told. I can hear very clearly through the car speakers and the caller can hear me well. The backup camera turns on instantly when I put the car in reverse and shows very clearly on the screen.

I purchased this to replace my stock unit. The Apple Car Play is an awesome feature, the unit connects with Bluetooth easily, this thing is so simple to use, the preset EQ is a great feature along with custom EQ capabilities, the screen is bright and clear, the backup camera works wonderfully. I also purchase a Pioneer backup camera and had Best Buy do the install on the entire system, GREAT EXPERIENCE! That’s when I meet Uriel at the location on Herndor which entirely changed my outlook on my new system. With Uriel’s wisdom of car stereo gear, I followed his advice on adding two Amps, a 4 channel Audio Control 4.300 and an Audio Control 1.300 mono sub woofer Amp, an Audio Control Epicenter and a L7T 10” Loaded Enclosure, all available at Best Buy. All I can say is wow! Clear, clean, crisp, full, deep, very powerful sound. Truly amazing. Before you spend a dime or twist a screw driver get advice from a Best Buy Tech, if you live in the Clovis, CA area, I highly encourage you to consult with Uriel, this guy is amazing. Great job Uriel and Kevin!

I love the CarPlay function. It works reliably. The radio needed a firmware update to correct an issue with it not turning on. I would prefer an on screen volume control button as the hard buttons are recessed in my car trim. The radio only allows the steering wheel buttons to attenuate not mute audio. The interface is acceptable but I am distracted trying to switch between hd radio and CarPlay. The menu does not make certain functions easy to use. It took me ages to get screen dimming to work because of the menu options. Sounds great and it’s ok for a cheap CarPlay radio.

I love the radio. I was using the factory radio until it failed. The radio with the factory speakers improved so much. I was able to customize the equalizer for custom settings it sounds excellent. The HD radio with digital broadcasting is phenomenal. The DVD is wonderful you can select so many different options to view. The web link is great this connects your phone and displays YouTube on your screen. The Apple CarPlay is fantastic with the Apps Spotify, Pandora, and IHeartRadio you really don’t need to have any CDs because this gives you access to all the music you want . What’s nice is CD sound is great if you want play CD’s. What’s nice the radio links Waze to your radio screen. I haven’t used SiriusXM radio yet no need to spend the extra money because with the other apps it gives you everything you need. This radio has so much to offer. I haven’t checked out all the options yet. I would recommend this radio to anybody.. unfortunately I had to install the radio myself because of Covid-19. I was scheduled to have Best Buy do it but because of the state shut down they couldn’t install it for me. I must say it was easy to install because Best Buy ordered all the parts I needed to install it like a professional.

I bough this radio after doing much research online. This radio is a short chassis version, leaving you with more room for the wiring install. I am pleasantly surprised by the sound from this radio paired with my stock speakers. You have to tune it according using the graphic equalizer set up and other audio settings offered in this radio. Hint: go to Pioneer's website and they explain to you about all the audio features in this radio and how to tune it. Additionally, the icons are large and the screen is very responsive to touch. The HD radio feature is very cool as well if you have HD stations in your area. You can't beat the digital frequency over the analog. It also has Android auto and Apple auto for built in map and directions. This unit easily pairs with your phone. I am extremely pleased with my purchase of this radio.

Recently got this unit to replace a 10 year old Pioneer that lost its hands free features because the new iPhones don’t support it. After having it for almost a month, I feel comfortable writing a detailed review. Unlike my previous stereo, this thing connects quickly via Bluetooth and automatically plays music where I left off (Apple Music / Spotify). The stock speakers in my car buzz less as this thing is EQing better and handling the low end better. Dialing in the sound was much quicker as the defaults were already very close. I’ve noticed there are a lot of weird bugs though. Through Bluetooth, you can either be in Bluetooth or iPod mode (would be nice to rename these labels). iPod mode actually shows album art and more detail. But when you shut off the car and come back, powering back on to iPod gives you a playback error and you have to switch to Bluetooth to get it to work again. Sometimes the screen controls will act up. Clicking on any UI element will bring up the menu quickly and then it’ll disappear — on everything — shutting off the car and rebooting seems to fix it. Sometimes when plugged in to CarPlay, my steering wheel controls won’t respond — reboot to fix. Overall, the unit seems very temperamental. One of the most annoying things is the UX. Whoever designed the architecture needs to be fired, rehired just to be fired again. The user flows and buttons are not intuitive at all. It shouldn’t be this difficult to navigate screens / features. Overall for the money, it’s a great deal and the sound is nice. If you’re willing to deal with a few hiccups here and there and the lack of a physical volume button, I recommend this head unit.

With 90% of the choices being backordered indefinitely due to Covid, I chose this open box unit as I wanted HD radio and phone integration. I was a little skeptical due to not liking the NEX models from years ago. I installed this and was pleasantly surprised. Works great, sounds great. Car Play and Android Auto work very well. Preouts have good power. My only complaint is that even if you add it to your favorites, the subwoofer volume takes way too many button pushes to adjust. (same as most other radios.) I can't figure out why that control isn't front and center. It's the most adjusted setting there is based on what music you are listening to, and how it was recorded. Wired this up to a Idatalink Maestro SW steering wheel control module and it works awesome.

Item was straightforward to install. As others mentioned, the volume buttons are small(especially if you have big hands) and also the startup is slow. Besides that, the head unit is working as expected, I upgraded from a stock headunit from the early 2000s, so this headunit gives me HD radio, bluetooth capabilities, backup camera screen, and Apple CarPlay. I would definitely recommend, but I do miss having a volume knob.

So it has been about 10 months since I purchased this head unit. Pioneer makes some great head units and this is one of the best. Delivers great sound and it is very easy to use. The screen however is very unresponsive. I have to touch pretty hard to get it to respond. The navigation gps is bad, the little triangle on the screen is always spinning like crazy. I can’t adjust the date and time, it won’t let me. Not sure if my head unit is defective or not. Well I would give it 3 1/2 stars just because of the issues I’m having and the price is too high. Other than that it sounds great, I have 2 Skar Audio VXF 12s with an RP.4500.1D and this head unit makes sound very loud and clear.

I can see the screen while the sun is out unlike the Sony that I returned and replaced with this Pioneer. This is much better though still confusing, I still haven't figured out how to turn it off. If I'm driving and can't figure out the touch screen at least I can stick a cd in there. Please bring back knobs. At least on/off & radio channels. The backup camera is also very clear on this screen and Apple play works well. Seriously, I'd give it another star for knobs. The guy, Zoro, who installed it was awesome as was the older guy, who may be in charge of the shop, who helped me decide on a different set up when I couldn't see the Sony. If you like to drive with your lights on during the day ask them NOT to hook up the dimmer switch that dims the lights on the screen when you turn the lights on. Very happy with the installation at Denver West Best Buy and the Pioneer set up in general (you know, except for the knobs).

I do love this device and don't know what I'd do without it. There are glitches, however. Android Auto is pretty unnecessary and it more difficult to use than standard Blue Tooth. Once you connect a few devices wirelessly, it takes a while to connect - I think because it scans for each one and I haven't figured out how to delete them. Spotify hangs or fails to connect on occasion. Overall, though, I love this receiver. It sounds and looks great and is easy to navigate.

I will start by saying I am very pleased with the quality of the sound and the features of this head unit. Highly recommend this as a replacement for your factory installed head unit especially if yours was as old as mine. I installed this unit using the PAC RP5-GM11 radio replacement Interface. The unit uses my existing amplifier for sound which is just wonderful. I also installed a backup camera that uses this interface. The backup camera automatically comes on when I put my Tahoe in reverse showing on the AVH-2550NEX display. The video is perfect. This head unit added Bluetooth® phone integration for both handsfree calling and music playback without even plugging my iPhone into anything which is very convenient. Plugging my iPhone into the 58" USB extension cable that comes with the unit enabled Apple CarPlay which is awesome! Waze navigation right on the display! The PAC interface retained all my steering controls, so the install makes the whole thing look and work like a GM factory install. This head unit even has a remote control which is nice to have even though I don't use it much.

Wireless Carplay and a clean modern update

    |
    |
Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed.
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I did some serious soul-searching before I bought this head unit. I bought a used 2011 that I'm actually really liking -- but the sound in this thing was as bad as it gets. I was leasing a newer vehicle that had more modern bells and whistles, and I really got used to having Carplay and a rearview camera. I wanted to bring my new car up to speed with modern times. After reviewing Alpine, Kenwood and Pioneer decks, I settled on Pioneer because they have great review with Apple CarPlay and they seemed to have hit a home run with their newest series, which features both wired AND wireless Carplay. Basically, when I enter the car, the stereo recognizes my phone without any hassle instantly, and begins playing music, loads up info, texts, contacts, calendar events, etc - it's amazing. I like the built-in Maps settings -- the 6.8" display gets the full map, and the phone (which is mounted on a dock on the dash) gets the detailed play-by-play directions... so you have both text and visuals to keep you on target. A nice plus. I haven't even used this yet, but this head unit is also Alexa compatible - and although it is a bit more of a pain to set up since it uses your phone as a hotspot - it will be nice to have Alexa be able to communicate with some of my home devices from the comfort of my car. Now on to the most important part- the sound! The quality of tone and adjustability of this stereo leave nothing to be desired. I am a producer and mixer of all kinds of acoustic, electric and electronic music, so I wanted a balanced, non-hyped sound that could deliver clean low end and have the adjustability that i knew I would want to make me happy. I didn't need roof shaking bass - just plenty of clean power that didn't cause distortion and/or get mushy when turned up. Well there's almost TOO much flexibility. There are lots of dropdown menus that let you adjust many different parameters, but in the end it also sounds great just set FLAT. The graphic EQ is 13-band, easy to customize, and saves two user settings so you can compare and contrast with one click. I also got new speakers installed a couple days after getting the head unit installed, and I added a Pioneer Digital low-profile sub that has an amp built in and is short enough to fit under the seat. With a set of decent speakers for the front and back doors, a simple subwoofer to take the low end load off of the coax speakers, and this new head unit, I am getting all the volume, clarity and punch I would ever want. Honestly - I'm sure there are "Hi-Fi" setups that can deliver more -- but in a moving car, with road noise, windows open, etc... there's a potential of a lot of money being lost for literally no gain. I'm really impressed with the quality of tone and how much it has impacted even the stock speakers. But with a reasonable upgrade of speakers, this is a really great way to bring your vehicle up to state-of-the-art quality. With COVID here in our foreseeable future, I'm spending more time in my car than I thought - either just taking drives, making Zoom meetings away from pets, kids, etc, and ultimately just enjoying alone time. Music is a big part of my life, and now I can enjoy the quality and modernized feel of a new car - custom tuned to the exact specs I wanted - at a fraction of the price of what it would cost to add a more premium package to a new car purchase.
