    Almost Everything I Wished For

Battery makes this Ring doorbell very flexible, meaning you don’t have to worry about running or paying an electrician to run wires. At the same time, it also offers the flexibility of using existing wiring which will make you free from worrying about the battery life. Also, if you already have another Ring or other smart doorbell and you want to try this one before you decide it is worth the swapping, you can just use the battery option. I tested with either with battery and wire options and ended up opting for wired. Resolution is very good and although it is not 4K, the quality makes up for it, especially when you compare with cheap 4K ones you find out there. The resolution probably helps the motion detection which is excellent. On top of that, it sees in color even at night. The field of view is the best I’ve seen for a smart doorbell, and it is great to see head to toe as they advertise. On the other hand, it is disappointing that it doesn’t support Pre-Roll and Advanced Pre-Roll which would enable you to view a few seconds before the motion event by attaching it to the event clip. Another con is that it doesn’t support Wi-Fi at 5Ghz. It is a common thing with a lot of IoT devices, but it is nice to have the option. I would have opted for 5Ghz. But what really bothers me is that it requires a subscription to unlock more features and that includes something very basic: recording. In any case, the best smart doorbells always require a subscription and unfortunately, it makes sense since recording online is usually more reliable unless you lose connectivity and that’s when I wish it had some form of local backup. Lastly, despite the cons above, I really like it.

    Great addition for our camper!

We have a camper that I have put up wire-free, battery powered, solar rechargeable cameras up with solar panels on all 4 corners, however, I was needing a doorbell as well. In no time I was able to see the Ring Battery Doorbell as a solution, and a perfect solution it is! Now, I did buy a doorbell solar panel that would hook to the doorbell via the doorbell wires like most hardwired doorbells would have, however, that solar panel did not work (it was not a Ring branded solar panel). So I got back online & looked for the official Ring solution and I found one that the doorbell mounts to and it hooks to the doorbell via USB C. That solution worked flawlessly! And it moves the doorbell off the side of the camper just enough to also act like a mount, which is great! I am probably going to see about getting a mount that will also angle the doorbell but for now this is just perfect! We really could not be happier! The image quality is great, as is the app itself. The quality of the device is exactly what we have come to expect from Ring as we have multiple Ring smart devices in our home & camper at the lake!

So, when it comes to video doorbells this is definitely not my first. I'll start by saying that overall, the doorbell itself is pretty solid. Where I took points off was the integration with Alexa. I'll get to that in more detail later. The build quality is decent. It's definitely not flimsy but also not the most industrial doorbell I have used. It is built well enough though that I'm not concerned about it breaking easily. It has a decently solid feel in the hand. Setup was a mixed bag. On one hand there is the initial setup with the Ring app. This was rather straightforward. Withing 10 minutes I had the app downloaded, created my Ring account, connected that with my Amazon account, and had the doorbell installed. Where my frustration came in was the Alexa integration. I enabled the Ring Alexa skill, and I do receive voice notifications when someone is detected or presses the button. However, it took multiple attempts to get the video of the doorbell to display on my devices. For clarity I have two Echo Show 10s and two Fire TV Stick 4K Maxs. This is NOT an intuitive process. As for the general functions of the doorbell - this thing works great. It easily knows the difference between people and vehicles. I've had zero false notifications. I use my Echo devices as my doorbell, and this works great as well. The picture quality is clear even at night. Two-way communication is clear and easily understood. The app is great for live viewing and watching recorded notifications. Overall, I am satisfied with the Ring video doorbell. Aside from the rather frustrating process of getting the video to display on my devices, this has been a positive experience. It will remain as my primary video doorbell.

Got this on sale and was way more than worth it. Even at the original price, id be happy. Battery life seems good so far, picture quality seems good. Works like it should at night. Definitely happy with it.

My favorite part about technology is seeing the differences between the first version and the second version of the product that makes it to market. The first version always has something missing, something not quite correct, or not quite the original vision of the product. The second release is the opportunity to fix all the mistakes from the first product. For me the law of dimensioning return kicks in after version 2 which is why I think that comparison between version 1 and version 2 is magical. In the context of the Ring doorbell, at first glance this Ring doorbell does not look any different than the one that has been installed at my garage for the last several years. In many ways I believe the advice to not fix what is not broken so sticking with the same design is a smart choice. Then you unbox this thing and it’s amazing how a couple of tiny changes make all the difference in the world to using this device. The first change is that the doorbell replaces the micro-USB charging cable with USB-C. Good riddance micro-USB. I do love how Ring kept the cable orange. There is no charging brick included, just the cable. The second change is a complete redesign of how the doorbell attaches to the wall mount. In my version the Ring attaches using two T15 Torx screws on the underside of the doorbell. This is a rather uncommon type of screw driver head which meant it became vital to keep the Ring-included screwdriver handy for the device charging sessions. This new model replaces the screws (HORRAY!!!!!) with a plastic clip that slides into a small notch on the underside. I’m embarrassed to admit the number of times I cursed myself from dropping one of the screws While both methods are equally annoying, the benefits of not having to run electrical wire to the doorbell make up for the annoyance of having to use the tools to disconnect it. A third change worth mentioning is the video image. With a 66% increase in vertical coverage, compared with the previous version, this is the difference between seeing a head and a shoulder compared with a person’s entire body.
In my case this new doorbell is an addition to the existing one making me a fancy two doorbell house. The Ring software app makes it easy to add a new device to the existing setup and I was able to link both doorbells to the same digital chime which is great. There is nothing funnier than the chime ringing and watching my dog run like a bat out of that hot place, down the stairs, and to the door leading to the garage when in fact it is someone at the front door. Dogs are hilarious.

    Great relocating benefits!

Purchased for my daughter & her husband because they’re relocating. Easy to mount without damage. Great way for them to watch their new but temporary home until the move is complete and they find permanent home. Then it’ll continue to be awesome to help them watch after their home as they get to know their neighborhood & neighbors and who isn’t normally seen or known- to be cautious.

As a long-time Ring user, I was excited to get the newest Ring doorbell to replace my older rechargeable model. The older doorbell was also hard-wired but would still require a recharge every couple months. (I had a spare rechargeable battery that I could swap out with my previous doorbell, so I was never without a doorbell. The batteries were also interchangeable with my Stick-up cameras.) I found that with the new design, you actually remove the entire unit from the wall in order to charge the battery, leaving you without a doorbell while you're charging. Unfortunately I'm not as excited as I thought I was going to be. Although the new design can also be hard-wired, you would have to remove 2 screws from the back of the unit (leaving wires exposed) every time you needed to recharge. Previously, I would simply remove the cover, swap batteries, and I was ready to go within minutes. Other than that, installation is pretty straight-forward - mount the plate on the wall using the 4 included screws (hard-wire if you want to), and attach the doorbell. Scan the QR code on the device, add it to your Ring app, and you're ready to go. I really like the simplicity of the Ring system in adding items and how easily everything works together. The new design offers up to 66% more coverage including head-to-toe video. As with other Ring doorbells, you can receive smart alerts on your phone when motion is detected and can respond to activity with two-way talk and live-view. It also works with the Alexa phone app so you can simply "ask Alexa" to show you who's at the door! When paired with the Ring Protect Plan (subscription required) you can record all of your videos, share them with others, and store them for up to six months. I'm a big fan of Ring products and the Battery Doorbell works great and does a super job. I'm still not sure about removing the unit every time I need to charge but it works great!
