I was very indifferent on buying the portal but after trying it out, it is definitely worth the price if you ever wanted to play your PS5 in handheld mode. The screen has really good colors and brightness even for a LCD screen!

The Sony PlayStation Portal Remote Player in Midnight Black is a sleek and impressive device that makes gaming more convenient and flexible. I like how the design looks clean and modern, and the black finish gives it a premium feel compared to the standard white version. The screen is bright and clear, and it feels comfortable to hold during long gaming sessions. One of the best features is being able to play PS5 games anywhere in the house without needing the TV. The controls feel just like a DualSense controller, with haptic feedback and adaptive triggers that make the gameplay immersive and smooth. The 8-inch display with 1080p and up to 60fps makes games look sharp and enjoyable while using Wi-Fi to connect to the PS5. Overall, the PlayStation Portal Midnight Black is a great accessory for PS5 owners who want freedom to play in different rooms or on the go at home. It’s stylish, comfortable, and delivers a solid remote play experience. I would recommend it to anyone who wants a portable way to enjoy their PlayStation games without being tied to a TV.

Overall the best option for PS remote play

Pros: - The most ergonomic controller for remote play available. Very comfortable to hold and use for extended playing sessions. - Battery life is good - Screen quality is great though with minor caveat (see cons) - Overall build quality is good - Reasonably priced Cons - In the current firmware build, does not has the ability to turn on Playstation remotely (can only wake from rest mode) - In the current firmware build, does not support game streaming. - While the screen is great, but the screen finish is prone to reflection. I recommend using a screen glare resistant screen protector. - The analog stick is a bit more sensitive/loose than the standard DualSense, may take some getting used to. - Depending on the game and your network connection, may have minor delays/lags during gameplay (for me personally it was very minor). - If you are away from home, you will not be able to remote play physical games without the disc already in the PS5 console. Verdict - Recommend for those that would like to play PS5 around the house or remotely, especially for parents that needed to take care and watch the kids around the house. Despite the minor the cons, this is overall a very solid device.

Worth the money. I bought this and literally have not turned my tv back on. It’s so nice to be able to play Helldivers 2 in my hands. I have been having back problems so I can lay down and have the games on my PS5 in the palm of my hands. I only play a max of 4 hours so the battery life is great.

The PlayStation Portal is unfortunately not a great option for FPS gamers due to several limitations. The most significant issue is noticeable input lag, which makes precise aiming and quick reactions difficult. This problem is compounded by connectivity issues; even with a strong connection (my internet 500 mbps) to the modem, the Portal tends to lag whenever you move even slightly away from the router. These combined factors make playing fast paced, competitive FPS games on the Portal a frustrating experience.

The PlayStation Portal Remote Player has been a surprisingly great addition to my PS5 setup. It’s designed for one purpose—remote play—and it delivers that experience with impressive consistency. The 8‑inch screen is bright, sharp, and responsive, making games look far better than I expected from a dedicated remote‑play device. Colors are vibrant, motion is smooth, and the overall image quality feels premium.

To get the best out of this device you need 2 things: 1. PS5 plugged into your router via Ethernet. 2. Good wifi signal. In my experience, you can play most games at full speed without any issues. It's great for 3rd person action games, RPGs, platformers, etc. I assume twitchy online shooter games are less-good compared to just playing them on a console. But this is a streaming device, not a portable console. The screen is nice and big - a big win if you're used to playing/streaming games on your phone. The controller itself is basically all the same tech from the DualSense controller. Your hands might get uncomfortable after a long play session. Not sure if that's from the added weight of the device or the ergonomics of the device itself. It takes USB-C and has a headphone port, which is more than you can say about most devices nowadays. People like to compare this to handheld computers that cost much more and take much more work to set up PS5 streaming. This is a no-frills streaming device that works right out of the box. It doesn't promise to offer more than that.

The PlayStation Portal is an overall great product with only a few drawbacks. Positives: 1) If you have a strong connection you can play anywhere, not just on your home WiFi 2) The controller design feels really nice* 3) The screen is pretty good for being an LCD The Negatives: 1) The connection has to be good and have no interference, if you're on a 2.4GHz WiFi signal you'll probably have issues 2) The touchpad choice is kind of poor, requiring a double tap for a click and a double tap + a third held for a held on the screen. 3) The audio lacks really fine adjustment, which I have found to lead to it being slightly loud, or almost muted. 4) The screen appears to not be HDR which on a few occasions seemed like it lead to some weird color crushing issues. Overall the PS Portal is a great piece that I would highly recommend for someone who has kids that want the TV or someone who wants to play less realtime games while out of the house.

After reading reviews and checking out videos, i was lucky to get this before it sold out. It has helped me put in 30 hours of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. I am a full time worker with a wife and kid who has a disability. I dont have to feel guilty about taking the only tv when the wife or kid wants to watch something. It is easy to set up and get working. Its very seamless when using it and the performance is great. My internet is 30 mbps and i have not had an issue with using it at home. Can be charged with the same cable for the PS5 remotes and have been able to play it for a little over and hour before i put it down to do other things. Its very comfortable just like the PS5 remotes. It also feels light but not too heavy. The volume is really loud for this particular unit. It has been a purchase i dont regret getting.

The portal is a great device for gaming, if your main TV is used by others or if you're away from home. The key is to make sure you have a fantastic internet connection (both at-home and wherever you're playing away from home). At the same time, this device might not be the best for all games. For any fast-paced, accuracy-involved games, this is not for you. I was playing Fallout 4 using this and missed so many targets on multiple occasions. At the same time, I played College Football 26 on here and had an incredible game-- passing was unbelievably easy. All that said, this device may not be great for you if you game with high FPS. More simple games that don't have jump-scares or quick motions are not a perfect use. As for the rest of the device, it otherwise did a great job of mirroring my PS5 the way I needed to play a game.

Perfect for gamers who want to game but can’t because the TV is occupied, sleek design that feels great in hand, great quality and a very nice screen. Just make sure you have good internet before purchasing or else this product is useless.

Best Remote Play experience due to the controls replicating the PS5 dual sense. The Screen is bright and vibrant and even touch screen. Battery life if great although the charging is slow. As for Remote play connection and smoothness, it needs work and after 2 updates it's still not as smooth as using it on my iPhone.
