The ps portal is a great device to use when you want to game at home while the TV is taken, or you want to be able to play anywhere in the house. Although it works over the Internet, it can constantly lose connectivity with your console, requiring you to reset connectivity which would be a hassle when you're away from your home. Otherwise it works great, when it works.

Does what it says, convenient to use PS5 all over the house, controls are great, screen is great. Beware though, you cannot use streaming services on it, that is stated in places but easy to miss, still a great product

I have used this for both local streaming on a ps5 wired to the router and also for cloud streaming. It works great for both. There is some lag but that is to be expected, it’s like playing a game at 30 fps. The video quality is good. The controller is good. The screen is good.

Before I purchased, I had read a lot of reviews and many were from people like me. I’m a parent of two young kids, so being able to sit in front of a TV with my system set up just isn’t in the cards right now, so I went ahead and got this. I do like it but there’s definitely room for improvement. I use a wired in ps5 but some games are tough to play due to lag input. It’s not my WiFi, my WiFi is consistently strong. Sometimes the screen glitches and it’s weird. Some games play perfectly. Oddly some online games play better than offline games. Battlefield plays perfectly. Ghosts of Tsushima plays great. MLB is hard, there’s definite lag between when you hit the button to when the action is performed. Madden mostly plays great. NHL is a mess. I don’t think it can handle that fast constant action right now. I hope it’s something they can patch. I have headphones that work but it seems like they only connect bc I have the dongle in the ps5. There’s somehow no Bluetooth on this thing which in 2024 seems wild. Battery life is pretty good. I’d estimate 4-6 hours per charge which is pretty good IMO. Feels like you’re holding a real controller. Gets a little heavy if you’re laying down holding it but nothing crazy. Overall a cool product that I hope continues to improve. Oh, one more thing, it’s sort of loud. You can really hear it working if that makes sense. Lots of clicks and buzzing at times. Is that normal?

I absolutely love the PlayStation Portal. It’s a great handheld gaming system, especially if you already own a PS5. The screen is beautiful, the controls feel just like a regular DualSense controller, and it’s super comfortable to hold for long gaming sessions. Being able to play my PS5 games from anywhere in the house is a huge plus. That said, there are a couple things to keep in mind. Your PlayStation has to be on (or in rest mode with remote play enabled), and your experience really depends on your internet connection. If you don’t have strong, stable Wi-Fi, it can get laggy and impact gameplay. With a solid connection though, it runs smoothly and feels almost like you’re playing directly on the console. Overall, if you have reliable internet and want flexibility to game away from the TV, the PlayStation Portal is definitely worth it.

For the money it does everything it states. It can be a little laggy from at the start but 98% of the time is great. Give a 4 star just because now having it I can see the potential of what it should do. If it had any kind of offline game storage, even if it was for classic games it would be amazing.

Excellent companion to the PS5. I have only used the device on my home Wi-Fi so far, so I can't speak to how well the portal travels. Everything has worked great so far, and I love the option to play on the front porch or on the couch while something else is on the TV. I'm glad I purchased this. Battery life is good and the unit itself feels like a quality device. Games do look great on the screen as well.

Neat toy to take your PS 5 remotely … somewhat

A nice little luxury that is very much a nice-to-have, and not a critical item, but is a handy addition to the PlayStation ecosystem with the right setup. Use case for me is to accommodate some of the same use cases as Switch - take it in handheld mode when you want to do some casual gaming or grinding in a game while having the TV on (or when someone else does). Performance will very much hinge on your Ethernet/Wifi set up (best w/ Ethernet to PlayStation & strong WiFi signal w/ limited barriers between you & router). A twitch shooter might be tough to play remotely or in a far off room (manifesting as visual quality degradation), but a more casual game or grinding in Borderlands can be fine. As always with Sony, there are some quirky design decisions (volume buttons; hidden power button that ALSO needs a PlayStation button that doesn’t function as your main system’s PS button; no haptic press on screen - a virtual trackpad instead that requires new muscle memory to replicate a press on standard pad). BUT - if you’ve need to satisfy the itch to play in random spots in the house (within reason), it’s a neat little toy.

Far superior experience than backbone which has vastly inferior controller functionality and whose screen is only as large your phone. Portal has a nice large screen, excellent size, ps style controls with smooth controller integration across both sides of the screen, and good battery life. Does require wifi to work although it need not be on the same network. In essence, think of this as the portable version of your Playstation, giving your ps5 similar functionality as a switch/2.

I use to not be able to play or deep dive into a game cause I would be in the office/man cave for hours. This device allowed me to stay connected to the family and be in other rooms. Well worth the purchase for this Dad that still loves a great RPG like Assassins Creed, Spider-Man and Jedi games. Playing my games in bed while the wife watches a show I’m not interested has kept me out the doghouse.

Was hesitant at first that there would be lag because these work by essentially streaming the game however that proved to be very minor. I was surprised by just how little lag and how well it played. Bought it to take my gaming with me while I'm traveling and it works very well.

Was really easy to set up and get using right out of the box. It's great to be able to play while my family watches tv. Graphics and game play seem to have pretty good response. About the only time when I really noticed any issues were when my internet was acting up or I got too far away from my wireless router. The battery seems to last a good amount of time before needing to recharge.

Bought this for my husband for Father’s Day, so that he could play games even when our kids are using his PlayStation. He loved it. It works great. The controller feels identical to the regular controllers. He ended up getting the earbuds as well and said they work perfect with it.

If you've a PlayStation owner, this is a great addition. With the new firmware update that just recently happened, the update turns the portal into a true handheld gaming device. The 2 thing I don't like is that there is no web browser and it only supports certain Bluetooth earbuds. Sony to be exact. Other than that, I have no regrets in this purchase.

Honest Opinion on the PS Portal

This device is not another console like the old PSP or PS Vita. This device is a PS Remote Play Controller with a screen. The app you download on your phone, the PS Remote Play app, to use your phone as a controller, this is the workaround. With that being said, the quality of the device feels so incredibly nice and touch screen can look so very sharp. I use the word “can” because this device’s screen quality is very reliant on your wifi and/or your hotspots. You also must be on the same connection as your primary console in order for this to be used as your controller. You cannot play at Location B with X Wifi connection, while your console is at Location A with Z Wifi Connection. Once connected, your PS5 will turn on, along with your monitor or tv (if your setup is configured that way). You will be able to see your picture on the PS Portal’s screen, and the screen your main console is connected to. Again, the PS Portal is not another console. Its a Sony made backbone controller. Furthermore, and to reiterate, the device feels so nice in the hands. Now, it may be a bit awkward to grasp, but just like any new or different controller, you will adjust to it just fine. Its a small and surprisingly heavy device. The weight isnt an issue, just surely more than youd expect. PS5 adaptive triggers remain and buttons feel very well made. No stickiness or stick drift has been seen or noticed. The Sound Quality is also quite nice, and the volume button above the screen itself is out of way, easy to spot, and easy to reach. Of course, directional sounds may be harder to notice, so I highly recommend to get this device if you plan to stay at home and want to play Single Player games. Multiplayer games are possible, but if youre competitive, it just may not be the best option. There is a way to connect your headphones to it, so even if you are competitive and desire that directional sound, you wont be at a total loss. Overall, I have been happy with my PS Portal. I do not regret my purchase. The price range may be offputting, however the device itself is a strong and sturdy one. Respectfully, you are not missing out on much if you do not own it, but it is nice and convenient to have if you want to play in one spot but your primary console is in another room.
