Great for PS5 Streaming!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this specifically for streaming from my PS5 so I could let the family use the tv and I could do my thing anywhere in the house I had wifi. While it's use is limited to PS streaming it works absolutely wonderful for my needs. I bought an open box and I definitely wouldn't pay full price for it. The 8 inch screen is perfect and is crystal clear. The sound quality is also excellent. I have had very few connection issues and that's only been due to the plaster walls I have or hiccups in my mesh wifi. I love the fact it's incredibly light and the battery life is amazing, easily 4 hours or so playing darktide.

A Game-Changer for Portable PlayStation Gaming
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I recently picked up the PS Portal, and I’m absolutely loving it! As a fan of portable gaming, I was excited to try out Sony’s take on a handheld device that works seamlessly with the PlayStation ecosystem, and it does not disappoint. The display is stunning—crisp, vibrant, and clear, making it ideal for gaming on the go. The controls are well-placed and feel comfortable in the hands, even during extended play sessions. The feel of the device is premium, and despite being compact, it offers an ergonomic design that’s easy to hold for long periods. One of the standout features for me is how effortlessly it pairs with my PlayStation 5, allowing me to stream games from my console in high quality with minimal lag. Whether I’m playing AAA titles or indie games, the experience feels surprisingly close to playing on a TV. The remote play functionality works flawlessly, and I’ve had no issues with connectivity, even when I’m a few rooms away from my PS5. The battery life is decent, lasting a few hours of continuous gaming, though it can vary depending on the intensity of the games you’re playing. The charging is also quick, which is convenient for short sessions. Overall, the PS Portal is an impressive device, combining portability with powerful performance. It’s perfect for gamers who want to keep playing when they’re away from their console. I highly recommend it to anyone looking to enhance their gaming experience on the go!

The portable beats the switch on comfort alone
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have been waiting for a sony portable gaming device that fits in my grown up hands. Tge psvita was slmost goid enough but not quite right. This thing is great. It is lite weight and has a beautiful screen. Make sure you create a separate network on your router to connect both your ps5 and playstation portable to. This will help lesson the glitching that will sometimes happen. Network over crowding ( phones, tvs, ipads, computers, devices that use your internet) cause the speed slow downs and glitches. You shouldn’t experience this on a deficated network running top speed. Tye device is basically a dual sense controller with a nice sized screen where the touch pad woukd be. Its bigger and better thsn the switch 2 screen. I love Nintendo but tfe switch 2 is heavy ttats hard to hold for long periods. The portable beats the switch on comfort alone.

PS PORTAL - Good effort/still needs work
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The PlayStation Portal is a device sorely needed by PlayStation. I’ve always wanted to make my system portable and the portal sort of does that. I chose the portal over a backbone because I wanted something aside from my phone that was dedicated to on the go gaming. The portal does that. It’s a pretty large device, but it does fit my hands comfortably. My hands are by no means huge, but I could see folks with smaller hands or kids struggling a bit with the size. The display screen is amazing; great clarity and graphics. The sound is just OK. It didn’t seem like Sony put much into the portal in the way of speakers. But I can hear everything. I don’t like that you have to either connect wired headphones or use Sony branded earbuds for sound if you want some privacy or not to disturb others. My biggest gripe is its ability to connect wirelessly. You have to have to have access to WiFi to use this device, which makes it difficult at times and only useable in certain settings. I’ve connected through my phone but that connection was not great so it as a truly portable device like the Switch is not happening. I did play at a hotel once and it worked just fine, so it does work. Funny thing is I’ve had problems connecting at home. It’s great if you want to be away from your system in a different room but I’ve noticed that my connection sometimes drops at home. The screen will lag and occasionally I’d have to reconnect to my PS5. That was crazy frustrating. All in all, for the price (I got mine open box and on sale) it’s worth it. Here’s a big warning. If you want to buy this, make sure you start downloading games to your system. It can only play the game that is physically in your PS5. So if all you use are discs, it can only play the disc that’s in your system at that time. I don’t like that, so I’ve started to download other games to the hard drive. Since it mirrors your PS5, you can get to those. Good product. Hopefully, they’ll make improvements over time.

PlayStation Portal Beta
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The PlayStation Portal is a good solution if you want to play your PS5 games on the go. The downsides is you need a decent connection to have optimal resolution or you may lose signal. I have lost signal in my own home despite having excellent signal and connection to both devices (PS5 & PSPortal) These aren't exactly a downside, but are quite the requirements. If you have those requirements, this is a good handheld PS5 game player. The screen is bright enough, the UI is decent (now), and the controller almost feels like a real DualSense controller. Battery life is acceptable and even good if you don't play with maximum screen brightness, as well as high volume. Which leads me to say the Portal does not support Bluetooth/wireless buds (except Sony's own specific Link buds) because of latency issues. When I got this, there was no cloud streaming, and no 3D audio. Now you can cloud stream certain games you have purchased without needing your PS5 to be turned on. For a device that is asking for $200, many of the features it has now should have been included at launch. Two years later, I think it finally does what it should have done when it was first released. I think it's worth the price tag now if you want to game on the go and have a good internet source to connect the PSPortal as it's required to use.

Early impressions — PS5 remote play accessory
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I’m the target audience for this niche PS5 accessory — 1) handheld to hang with my wife while she watches bad TV shows like 90-day fiancee :) 2) device solely to play remotely from my PS5 because I prefer the compressed video via Wi-Fi to play my existing game library at good quality (without having to buy a new handheld device + new games). I’ve used remote via iPhone (wished for a larger screen) & Logi G Cloud ($100-150 more for apps / aging Android tablet I don’t want). This is straight forward, connects to my PS5 & replicates the experience on a handheld with great controls (+ haptic feedback) anywhere there’s a strong Wi-Fi. I have tested several single player sports games (NBA 2K24, Madden 24 & MLB The Show 23 + Gran Turismo 7) & best remote experience I’ve had to date. If experience remains the same ongoing, this is a Home Run for me (it’s target audience). For reference, my PS5 is connected via Ethernet to my LAN. I tested PSP at home Wi-Fi (great) & away using my iPhone as a hot spot (surprisingly good). If device not having bluetooth is a contributing factor, yay! (otherwise nay — can use built-in speakers, wired headset or proprietary wireless earbuds). Screen is very nice LCD, feels like OLED. Size a huge plus (8 inches). Used for 3-4 hours & battery 2/3 bars remain. Feels comfortable. Does not let you play PS5 video apps — ie Nexflix (just games). If you like PS5 remote play & want the best experience, this is for you. It’s the best for that. It’s a PS5 accesory just for that. This is my experience early on, user experience may vary depending on your Wi-Fi connection. Hope this helped those that are interested.

Great concept, poor connectivity
||Posted . Owned for 1 year when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This product was a great idea, relatively compact, high-quality, awesome display. I even loved the fact that it was based on the dual sense controller, but that is where the good news ends. Activity on this device is poor at best. I have 500mb Internet in my home. I sat on my couch, 5 feet from the Wi-Fi router and about 8 feet from the PS5, which was hardwired to the router and the lag made gameplay unbearable. It was even worse when traveling. I would leave in my PS5 turned on and connected to the Internet. And then try to connect from a remote location with equally fast Internet, and the device would barely connect much less be playable. I sincerely hope that Sony can’t get these connection issues worked out because this will be a great alternative to lugging my PlayStation around with me when I travel for work. All of this said, I must go back to the beginning and say that the build quality is exceptional, feels great in hand with a stunning display. Just needs better, connectivity and better support on the PlayStation network.

Definitely worth it
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Portal is a great little device, even at home. Since mine arrived in early February, I’ve completed two long games because I can pick it up & play at any time. If I want to keep an eye on sports on the TV, I can still complete sidequests in big non-linear games. I can lay on the couch or in bed and play. If I go out of town for work, I can connect to hotel wifi and keep playing. Now there are caveats, of course. There is an expected and understandable lag which means it’s not ideal for something like, say, online fighting games. If your wifi signal is weak or goes out, you’ll also experience stuttering or a disconnect, though thankfully you won’t necessarily lose game progress unless your PS5 loses power as well. For me, I’ve found it invaluable in completing games like Yakuza that have loads of content, since I can play a little bit here and there without needing to be tethered to my big TV and AV setup. It’s never going to replace such a thing as the preferable way to play, but it makes a great companion. It’s even fairly comfortable to hold for long periods, since it’s just a screen wedged between a DualSense controller. The additional weight is noticeable, but I’ve spent 5-6 hours playing at a time and never felt any serious discomfort a little 5 minute break couldn’t fix.

It's great. Really.
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Sometimes I just want to lie in bed and play a game. Sometimes I want to play a game when my main TV is being used. For both cases, the portal is brilliant. I'm still shocked at the little amount of lag there is (tiny) and how good the screen looks. It's also lightweight and has good battery. I don't use it outside my house so it might be different in other scenarios.

Hardware Triumph, Connectivity Flop
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Hardware and Ergonomics: A Flawless Design Where the Portal excels is in its physical design. The device is essentially a DualSense controller split in half, cradling a large, beautiful 8-inch LCD screen. This approach provides an immediate and immense advantage over using a smartphone or tablet for Remote Play: it delivers the full, uncompromised DualSense experience, complete with haptic feedback and adaptive triggers. The build quality is excellent, feeling sturdy and premium in the hands, and the familiar controller shape makes for an incredibly comfortable and ergonomic long-session gaming experience. Furthermore, the screen is bright, vibrant, and displays HD content cleanly. When the connection is stable, games look great on this display, and the seamless integration of PS5 controls makes it feel like a true first-party handheld. Connectivity and Performance: The Major Shortfall Unfortunately, the Portal is hampered by the very thing it was designed to do: stream games over a network. My testing revealed significant issues, both locally and remotely. Attempting to play outside of the home using a 5G mobile hotspot resulted in a horrible experience. The connection quality was consistently poor, characterized by pixelation, stuttering, and input lag that made the device effectively unplayable for any title requiring quick reactions. Even at home, where my PS5 was connected via a LAN cable to a high-speed router, and the Portal was on the same optimal Wi-Fi network, the performance still underwhelmed. While the resolution issues could sometimes be overlooked, the unbearable input lag made competitive games, especially FPS titles, frustrating. This fundamental lag undermines the excellent hardware, turning fast-paced gameplay into a sluggish, unresponsive chore. The final drawback lies in its use case for a dedicated desk setup. Since the PS5 is already right next to the PC, there is no compelling reason to grab the Portal over simply sitting down and playing on the console natively. Moreover, the Portal's dependence on mirroring the PS5 means that games owned physically must still be loaded and mirrored, offering no true convenience over local play for those who are already nearby. Verdict The PlayStation Portal is a great piece of kit for the right audience, delivering the best portable control experience available for PS5 games. However, its complete reliance on Remote Play, coupled with the persistent, noticeable input lag—even on ideal home networks—prevents it from being a must-buy. It’s a niche device that sacrifices performance for portability, which is why it receives 3 out of 5 stars. 3/5 Stars A beautifully designed device marred by the limitations of streaming.

Just OK if you can't use ethernet for your PS5
||Posted . Owned for 9 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First off, I am so sick of the "YoU sHoUlD pLuG yOuR cOnSoLe InTo EtHeRnEt" responses about improving performance with this. We get it, wired is always better; not everyone's setup allows for that! In a world where so many devices are wireless, and Sony expects you to remote play on sometimes crappy wifi, it is shocking to me that in the same home / on the same network you end up with enough latency to make it drop connection or get grainy/laggy. It gets a little better each update, but still kinda lackluster and it is so odd that it - pretty much across the board with people on the same wifi for their console - will perform better outside of your home when they're on separate networks! Sometimes I just want to play in bed or something and it's kinda bad at that. Overall it is a really cool device and when it works, it works well! It's a compelling alternative to other handhelds especially with more recent ones like ROG Ally X and MSI Claw costing $800-900 and continuing to rise with each new handheld! For $200 you can play your games on, what I feel like, is a more ergonomically friendly device and better controller. GOOD: - Controller is great, if you like PS5 controllers - Adaptive triggers work on it! - Screen looks nice - Light weight compared to other handhelds like Steam Deck, Rog Ally, Lenovo Legion Go. Nice alternative here. - Access to your PS library without re-buying games for PC on other handhelds BAD: - Latency can be atrocious, especially on the same network. Often have to reboot this and my PS5 to get a solid connection to play, which is a bit of a known issue/workaround. - Anything competitive or really input lag sensitive starts to feel almost nauseating with delays or mismatch to what you expect - Should allow direct streaming of PS Plus stuff, which initially didn't and won't be fully realized unless they include that. Take out my need for PS device for remote stream games and eliminate a hop! For $200 it's good, but if you have a handheld and want to use something like Chiaki it sadly works better most times on wifi, so I would go that route before buying this. If you have your PS5 on ethernet, let 'er rip and this probably works great!

Awesome Handheld!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We bought the PlayStation Portal mainly so my son could keep playing his PS5 when he has sleepovers at his grandparents’ or friends’ houses. Mission accomplished he literally packs it like it’s another limb now. The fact that he can just pick up and play his saved games on the big TV at home the second he walks back in the door (no cloud saves or anything to mess with) is pure magic for him. Streaming quality has been rock-solid on our home Wi-Fi and even holds up pretty well on my parents’ decent-but-nothing-special internet. The screen looks fantastic, battery life easily gets him through an evening + morning of Fortnite and Roblox without needing a charge, and the built-in controller feels exactly like a real DualSense.

Perfect for Dad Time After the Kids Take Over the
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I picked up the PlayStation Portal for myself after realizing the TV in my house is permanently claimed by my three kids. This thing has been a lifesaver. Setup was quick, and once it synced to my PS5, I was gaming from the couch, the backyard, or wherever I could grab a little peace and quiet. The screen looks great, the controls feel just like the DualSense, and it’s surprisingly comfortable to use for long sessions. Every now and then, it’ll lose connection to the PS5 or the image will get a bit pixelated, but it always reconnects quickly and keeps going strong. If you’ve got a full house and still want to squeeze in some gaming time without fighting over the TV, this little device is a game-changer.

||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought this as a gift for my husband, and it's worked out really well so far. It's comfortable to hold, easy to use, and the picture is phenomenal. It was simple to connect to the existing Playstation/account, and the way it can be used is really convenient. He loves the size of the screen, and the feel of the buttons. The volume on this thing gets LOUD, and I'm really impressed with the overall quality. The Portal is well designed, looks sleek and sophisticated, and was easily integrated into our current TV stand setup.

||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The PS Portal is an excellent product that exceeded my expectations. It is made with premium materials and feels very solid and durable in the hands. The battery life is quite reasonable for its performance, lasting long enough for extended gaming sessions. Overall, I’m very satisfied with this purchase and would definitely recommend it to any PlayStation owner looking for a high-quality way to play on the go.

3.5 star rating for PS Portal
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The PS Portal has a beautiful display with high resolution. The controls feel just like a PS5 controller. Battery Life was longer than I expected. This product only falls short with its WiFi capabilities. Seem that the only way to avoid disconnecting, resolution loss, freezing and pixelation is to be on a strong home WiFi network. Even if your cell phone hotspot reads at 100+ meg net speed. The wireless signal isn’t sufficient to avoid all these problems I encountered. Limiting the portability aspect which is a big let down. Another thing I wasn’t aware of is that you PS5 has to be on at home while you use on the go. I’m leaning more to a 3.5 star rating tbh. The PS Portal would easily be a 5 star if it worked on cell networks without trouble but this is not what I found to be the case.

||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Wow! This is much better than expected. My PS5 is hard-wired via Ethernet, and this connects to the same router as the PS5 via Wifi. I have never had any lag or speed issues. Even though the screen is IPS, it's still bright and colorful, and I had no problems playing any of my titles. Lightweight, pleasant in the hand to hold. Now I'm not restricted to the chair and TV; I can lie on the couch, lie in bed on these cold nights, and play. I love these thing, I have the Legion Go 2, totally different product I know, but for my use, I prefer this and it's a 10th of the cost
