Play on when away!
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Fits well in my hands, lightweight, good grip, very nice display and graphics, same size of a PS4 controller just cut in half. Add a skin for greater grip and control. Plays really well at home on the internal wifi, plays well when away on a hotel wifi, just don't try to use a phone hot spot unless you don't mind lags in the video and a *massive* drain on your data plan. I tested on my phone with a 10GB data sharing plan and in 10 minutes had half a gig of data used, so the math means 200 minutes, which is about one night's worth of play. Really good value compared to other portable platforms, charges quickly and holds the charge well. Whatever you have on your home console is what you're able to play, even digitally downloaded games.

PlayStation Portal: A Portable PS5 Powerhouse, But
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The PlayStation Portal is a unique device that aims to bring the full PS5 experience to your hands. It's not a standalone console, but rather a dedicated streaming device that relies on your PS5 for processing power. So, how does it hold up? Let's dive in. Positives: Portability: This is the Portal's biggest strength. Playing demanding PS5 games on a large, comfortable screen anywhere in your home or even on the go is a truly liberating experience. Streaming Performance: Remote Play works surprisingly well, with minimal lag and latency even on strong Wi-Fi connections. The visual quality is impressive, often indistinguishable from playing directly on the PS5. Controller Integration: The built-in DualSense controller feels fantastic, with all the bells and whistles like haptic feedback and adaptive triggers intact. It's a seamless transition from the standard PS5 controller. PS Plus and Premium Integration: Accessing your PS Plus and Premium library is easy and convenient, opening up a vast library of games directly from the Portal. Negatives: Limited Functionality: The Portal is purely for streaming PS5 games. It can't access other apps, media services, or even basic functions like web browsing. This feels like a missed opportunity for a more versatile device. Wi-Fi Dependence: Your entire experience hinges on a good internet connection. Even a slight dip in Wi-Fi quality can lead to lag and stuttering, making it impractical for offline use. Lack of Bluetooth Audio: Surprisingly, the Portal doesn't support Bluetooth headphones, forcing you to use the built-in speakers or a wired headset. This feels like a major oversight for a device focused on portability and convenience. Price: At $200, the Portal isn't exactly cheap, especially considering its limitations. This might make it a tough sell for casual gamers or those who already own a good tablet or phone for Remote Play. Overall: The PlayStation Portal is a technically impressive device that delivers the core PS5 experience on a portable screen. However, its limited functionality, Wi-Fi dependence, and lack of certain features like Bluetooth audio hold it back from being a truly must-have. If you're a dedicated PS5 player who values portability and have a strong internet connection, the Portal is worth considering. But for others, it might be worth waiting for a more versatile and feature-rich iteration in the future.

great device for on the go
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.i travel a lot for work and it is not always possible to bring the entire console query c me. being able to play playstation exclusives and utilize my playstation 5 while away from home has been an awesome experience. recent updates to this unit has also made it possible to cloud stream the available library that comes included with a PS Plus Premium membership, providing a more consistent quality than remote streaming, also making it so this unit can function as a standalone device without technically needing a PS5 to use, as was the cade prior. i give this unit an 8/10 rating for it's functionality, quality of build, and convenience.

Solid portable
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'm a father of two. My time on the TV is limited to when it's not showing Disney +. If your PS5 is connected to a wired network this device runs flawlessly. For my use case of being able to play my games in my house without using the TV this is perfect. Even considering the price of the PS5 it's still way cheaper than the new Legion GO and the flagship version of the Xbox ROG. It plays incredibly smooth, I haven't noticed a frame rate drop, and only the very rare drop in visual quality

Love it
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I originally bought this because I have some games I like to play handheld, as they are easier to see. I love Stardew Valley, but I always feel like I'm squinting at the TV, and this makes it more enjoyable. I was a little worried about hand pain, as I do have hand and wrist issues, but it's surprisingly comfortable to hold and not too heavy. So I have no problem playing for hours at a time. You do need to have your PS5 on in order to use remote play, but they do offer an option of cloud gaming with one of the higher PS Plus subscriptions, so you technically wouldn't even need a PS5 at all if you decided to go for that option. Battery life could be improved, IMO. You get maybe 5 or 6 hours of play on one charge, which could be annoying if you're travelling. Overall, though, it's great.

Almost perfect.
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. For the money it does everything it states. It can be a little laggy from at the start but 98% of the time is great. Give a 4 star just because now having it I can see the potential of what it should do. If it had any kind of offline game storage, even if it was for classic games it would be amazing.

Surprised at how well it worked
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Was hesitant at first that there would be lag because these work by essentially streaming the game however that proved to be very minor. I was surprised by just how little lag and how well it played. Bought it to take my gaming with me while I'm traveling and it works very well.

Great Handheld, only getting better
||Posted . Owned for 8 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought the portal sometime last year thinking it would be a good device to have and use while kids or wife watched whatever shows they wanted. For the most part for the it performed fine. Some connection issues at times. I tried playing online game like Helldivers or Fortnite but the lag was a bit to much for it to maintain a stable connection. Even trying to play single player games it would struggle. Now my set up may not be the best; the router and WiFi is on the first floor at one side of the house while i usually played on the portal upstairs on the other side. Fast forward to today with updates from Sony the connection is much more stable. I can play anywhere in my house, i even took it to my in laws which is a good 30ish miles away and had a great connection. And this is all with playing/streaming from what’s on my PS5. I haven’t tried the cloud gaming yet. So i totally recommend this device. It’s only gotten better and i can see Sony keeping it updated for a while.

Neat toy to take your PS 5 remotely … somewhat
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.A nice little luxury that is very much a nice-to-have, and not a critical item, but is a handy addition to the PlayStation ecosystem with the right setup. Use case for me is to accommodate some of the same use cases as Switch - take it in handheld mode when you want to do some casual gaming or grinding in a game while having the TV on (or when someone else does). Performance will very much hinge on your Ethernet/Wifi set up (best w/ Ethernet to PlayStation & strong WiFi signal w/ limited barriers between you & router). A twitch shooter might be tough to play remotely or in a far off room (manifesting as visual quality degradation), but a more casual game or grinding in Borderlands can be fine. As always with Sony, there are some quirky design decisions (volume buttons; hidden power button that ALSO needs a PlayStation button that doesn’t function as your main system’s PS button; no haptic press on screen - a virtual trackpad instead that requires new muscle memory to replicate a press on standard pad). BUT - if you’ve need to satisfy the itch to play in random spots in the house (within reason), it’s a neat little toy.

Pleasantly surprised
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have had the PlayStation portal for about two months now. I can honestly say that I love it. I had the backbone which I used with my phone, and this is 100 times better. The screen is large and has amazing picture quality. As large as it is, it doesn’t feel too big while playing it. I highly recommend this to anybody who wants PS five as a handheld. You have to link to your PS five to use it, unlike other handheld devices. But it is well worth it.

Said no initially, Now yes!
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. When I first heard about this during the summer, I said there’s no reason for me to need or want one with my wife betting me I would. Fast forward to November, the Portal was released and I was recovering from surgery. I couldn’t go to my cave to play my PS5, and I suddenly realized a reason to want and need one. She won. After a pure stroke of luck, I managed to get one. It has linked easily to my PS5 each time I’ve turned it on and I have experienced very little lag, only an occasional hiccup when the internet traffic is high in my home, but no interruption to the overall gameplay. My main gripe is I’m old school so the majority of my games are disc based, meaning if I want to play NBA 2K, Madden, Spider-Man 2, etc., I have to go and insert the disc. However, that’s not the fault of the Portal. Download from now on! The screen looks very good in my opinion and any complaints are nick picky. The speakers are surprisingly good and louder than expected. Incidentally. I have a pair of Sennheiser headphones connected to a dongle and plugged into a port on PS5. When the Portal connects to the PS5, I turn on the wireless headphones and listen through them while playing. The wireless range has worked even with the distance between the rooms, so there is a workaround for lack of direct Bluetooth. 4 stars instead of 5 because there is a wealth of potential with the Portal, so Sony needs to stop playing with our emotions and come with it!

High quality but restrictions make it fall short
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I love the screen size and controller design. But if it could ve used to stream from video streaming apps it would be amazing. Also add bluetooth so we can use the headphones of our choice. If this also had OLED and a brighter display, i would pay an extra $50 for it.

Awesome on occasion
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is my second time purchasing the product. The first time that I purchased the device it only supported remote play and when I would use remote Play it was a bit spotty even on a good internet connection but this time after the most recent updates that now allow you to stream games on your PS Plus premium subscription. It's definitely a big improvement, remote play has also seen an upgrade. I have tried this device on a great Wi-Fi connection and also hotspot on my phone The difference is drastic on a good Wi-Fi connection streaming is good but not great. Remote play on the other hand is almost perfect. On a hotspot connection on a 5G network the remote play device will not let me stream any games on my library only remote play and when I use remote play the resolution is basically at a 480p-720p level and the connection is spotty. Now network connection does depend on your service provider so you might find something else like a dedicated hotspot device or a better network that will give a better overall experience . When using the PlayStation Plus premium subscription to play games on your personal library or on the catalog not all games are available only certain ones that are supported. The list is fairly large though so you will most likely find a good library at games to play on the device. My overall experience is pleasant, I don't always have an occasion to use it but when I do and have great connection it's a great device to have.

A must buy for PlayStation owners
||Posted . Owned for 3 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you've a PlayStation owner, this is a great addition. With the new firmware update that just recently happened, the update turns the portal into a true handheld gaming device. The 2 thing I don't like is that there is no web browser and it only supports certain Bluetooth earbuds. Sony to be exact. Other than that, I have no regrets in this purchase.

Excellent product
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Far superior experience than backbone which has vastly inferior controller functionality and whose screen is only as large your phone. Portal has a nice large screen, excellent size, ps style controls with smooth controller integration across both sides of the screen, and good battery life. Does require wifi to work although it need not be on the same network. In essence, think of this as the portable version of your Playstation, giving your ps5 similar functionality as a switch/2.

Sony handheld
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Sony handheld device is a plus. Its just a better way to travel without taking the entire game system with you. The size is good too. This is like alien technology. The charge lasts long but you must have good wifi for the best results. Im still learning how to use it so stay tuned for updates.
