I was hesitant to get this, I'll be honest. When I first heard about Portal, I was like, "Just play on the PS5." But I also have kids who use the TV. It's actually nice to be able to play games while they're on the TV. PlayStation Premium also has streaming games, and that works beautifully on the Portal. I'm thinking about taking this with me while traveling to see how well the streaming works. The screen is very high quality. The audio from the device isn't spectacular, but it's better than the on-device audio of my Legion Go. It's hard to get good quality mobile audio and Portal's is acceptable.

This device is a game changer for me. I am no longer stuckon the tv. I can play this wherever i want in my house and its so convenient if you have kids. You do need good internet for it to really work but once it does its great. You also need ps plus premium if you want to stream from their library or your digital library.

    Amazing Open-Box Deal

I took a chance on this open-box PlayStation Portal from Best Buy, and wow – it’s absolutely flawless! The device looked brand new, with no scratches, marks, or signs of use. Everything was included: original packaging, charger, and documentation. Using it has been a game-changer for my household. I can now play my PS5 games seamlessly in any room while someone else hogs the TV. The 1080p screen is crisp and vibrant, the DualSense controls feel identical to the PS5 controller (haptics and all!), and latency is barely noticeable on my home Wi-Fi. For the price I paid (open-box discount + Best Buy’s reliability), this was an unbeatable value. If you see an open-box unit available, grab it with confidence. A perfect 10/10!

My opinion of the Playstation Portal

This device is fun and useful, but also lacks in a few ways. You can't stream video/TV to it, and all the games are streamed so there's prone to be delay/lag and you can't play with no internet connection. But overall it's a pretty fun device, handy for traveling and gaming if that suits your fancy.

I bought my grandson this Sony-PlayStation Portal Remote Player for his birthday, but specifically to keep him occupied during summer days. My fingers were crossed hoping it will cause him to unplug his game from the TV so my grand daughter and her friends when they come to visit can watch the TV in the den. It worked, yesssss. He loves the versatility of this hand held devise, he's from room to room with no lag from the Wi-Fi.

I have been waiting for Sony to make this product worth while and the new update did exactly that. With the ability to stream games straight from the PS PLUS service, this product has become well worth the purchase. It feels great in your hands and the screen is beautiful! Its the best mobile gaming device by far in my opinion.

This is a good bang for your buck if you plan to play at home. The ability to play anywhere in the house is very nice. You will want to hardwire the console to prevent any lag. Feels nice in the hands and the screen is very clear.

This was great for my situation. Basically I wanted the PS5 in the living room so everyone in the house could access it but still wanted a method of playing my games in my room. The wifi router happens to be in my room and my PS5 is connected with an Ethernet cable so I get a perfect connection 99% of the time. Randomly I do get some buffering where the picture gets laggy but it quickly corrects itself. Previously I tried a backbone controller but I really wanted a bigger screen plus with the backbone you basically lose your phone while you play. Now for the cons, the most obvious is there is no Bluetooth and with a handheld that's surprising. Not sure if it was my headphones but the headphone jack on mine seems to lose connection and I have to reinsert it to register. I did buy open box excellent so not really bothered since the speakers largely get the job done. But the thing that bothers me most is the psp portal not being able to turn on your PS5. You either have to leave it in sleep or on all the time from seemless connection to your ps portal. For me I just turn my PS5 on and walk back to my room once it's connected but it's definitely a hassle. Overall I recommend it if you want access to your PS5 in multiple rooms. I can't speak on how it handles out in the world.

Firstly, the Playstation Portal isn't going to be for everybody. It's going to see the most use in situations where there are more than one person using a the television the PS5 is hooked up to. Secondly, the Portal performs best on a wifi network with a good, strong signal and nice high speeds. I have tested the Portal extensively while using my phone as a hotspot, and it works well enough to play something that isn't going to require a fast reaction time. As for the performance of the Portal and my own personal experience, I just couldn't be happier! I mostly use my Portal at home while my wife is using the television to play her Switch. Also when I'm relaxing in bed, that is an excellent time for the Portal to shine. The graphical fidelity is beautiful, great range of color on display, images comes through nice and sharp. Response time for the controls is almost without any lag at all, making gaming on this little gem a wonderful experience. Sound from the Portal is about what you'd expect from a portable device, it good enough. I picked up the Pulse Elite headset just to use with the Portal, glad I did. The Pulse Elite connects to the Portal without any dongles or extra hardware or anything, and it makes the audio experience VERY worth the price of the headset. If you get a Portal, get the Pulse Elite headset to go with it! Finally, the Playstation Portal is comfortable to use. It seemed like it was going to be a bit large at first, but after extended use I've found I can play for hours without any issues. Keep in mind this is on my home wifi network, which has very strong signal and very high speed. Even on my phone's hotspot, the Portal works well enough to play a lot of games, but I highly recommend using it on a good fast wifi.

Reason for 4 stars is that even though my ps5 is wired to gig speed, there is still noticeable lag with wireless conenction. The update for cloud streaming makes this more of a portable gaming device, but be aware that online multiplayer games will obviously not run as smoothly as console. For reference, a single player game I tested (mlb the show) felt as if I was late on swings. On a side note, it took longer than expected to link with console.

Got this to be able to use when i want to play remotely, been pleasantly suprised with it. the screen is bright and clear. the device is comfortable in my hands, its not heavy. the only downside i have noticed to it, are with games that use the button on the touchpad of a normal ps4/ps5 controller. ive not yet noticed a way to use that button on the Portal, ive only tried one game and it had otherways to get to the section that i needed to go to (the touchpad button was a shortcut to a map) other than this, i have loved everything about this device.

Pretty cool handheld, wish it would come with it's own games like a switch. Connectivity with the ps5 isn't always the greatest. And I have premium wifi and internet.
