After spending real time with the PlayStation Portal, I can confidently say this device fills a very specific niche — and if you fall into it, it’s fantastic. If you don’t, it might feel limited.

Update your ps5 to ensure it can be paired with the portable. Otherwise, it is what we expected and my child loves it.

Great for playing games around the house if you don't want to move your console or someone else is using the TV. Does take some getting used to playing on it but you get used to it quickly. I do really like how they have the controller handles compared to other handheld consoles. I think that's what separates this from others.

[Employee of bestbuy] The PlayStation Portal provides a sleek and focused method to enjoy your PS5 games remotely with its impressive 8-inch LCD screen and DualSense wireless controller, making it an appealing option for dedicated gamers. Priced at $200, the device offers a premium experience with its 60 fps capability, although its single-purpose nature might not justify the cost for those who prefer using multi-functional devices like phones or tablets for Remote Play. Despite this, the seamless integration and exclusive features may provide enough incentive for enthusiasts seeking an enhanced, uninterrupted gaming experience at home.

The portal is amazing. Siging in was a breeze. Starting up the portal is visually beautiful, easy and fast. The selection of games for streaming is great and even just playing my own games from anywhere is awesome. The feel of it in your hands is really nice as well, it’s smooth and sleek. The charging port is in a good spot where it doesn’t feel like you’re going to bend the cord to charge it. Overall, one of my favorite purchases. 5 out of 5.

The PS5 Portal Black Edition is honestly pretty awesome if you already own a PlayStation 5 and want to play anywhere in the house without hogging the TV. It’s not a full-on handheld like a Switch, but it does what it’s made for really well.

I was on the fence about this particular item. After all it is not a stand alone device. But I am able to play my PS5 from anywhere in the house. I underestimated how fun this device would be.

Pros - Hardware quality is excellent - Haptics is excellent, especially when playing games like NFS Unbound that take advantage of the haptic feedback technology Cons - Display is poor when compared to QLED or OLED gaming experience. Games like STEEP, which has a lot of 'whites' cannot be properly viewed on LCD screen, due to poor contrast. (Maybe changing the in game settings may work, but that would mess my display settings on PS5) - Battery life was poor, not sure if i got a device that was more susceptible to battery drain - Need to buy another sony wireless headset if you want to listen to audio (other options are in built speaker or cabled headphones) The hardware is great (except display). I wish they had better display, battery and ability to connect any BT headphones)

This is the perfect dad gamer accessory. As a dad myself, the kids take all the TV time and its pretty rare for me to play games on TV. I usually have to play really early or really late when they are sleeping. The PS portal lets me game on the couch, toilet, or anywhere else in the house. Connect it to your phone’s hotspot to play elsewhere. The biggest downfall of this is that you can’t just connect any bluetooth headphones to it. You have to use Sony’s. Luckily I already have one. Its 2025, no one uses wired headphones anymore

The portals design is light, product does not over heat and no does not make your arms tired from excessive game play. The battery could last longer, if you plan on playing out in public ensure to bring a battery pack as well. My game time is when the wife wants the TV for herself, screen protector and case applied before the kids got it.
